Course Description

This course will give health care workers an opportunity to explore issues surrounding drug and medication administration, thereby raising awareness and developing an understanding of this subject.
Refreshment of this qualification is recommended at least every 3 years.

· Recognising the range of support needs that different clients may have with taking medication
· Recognising your role in supporting safety, effective use of medicines and independence when supporting clients with medication
· Administering medicines to clients
· Storing medication
· Disposing of medication
· Managing controlled drugs
· Record keeping
· Actions to be taken in the case of adverse reactions
· Obtaining information about commonly prescribed medicines
· Understanding the medication & special needs of different client groups
· Demonstrating the characteristics of medicines used in your own workplace

Delegates will be involved in group work, theory and personal reflections.

· Delegates will be made aware of the range of medicines and the benefits of their effective use
· To understand the key risks that may be associated with medicines
· To recognise medical terms used within the care environment
· To understand the key regulations covering administration of medicines within the care environment
