It would be good if the residents had a key to lock money and jewellery away safely in their own rooms. The gardens are beautiful if only there were more than one gardener. The day facilities seem excellent.

My sister is so happy and settled at Smythe House, she enjoys her life there with all the interactions with clubs and activities. Her time with the staff is also important to her as is time with the other residents. People are important to her and she is valued, respected, encouraged and cared for. The team at Smythe do an excellent job.

Aberpennar Court Care Home Mountain Ash, Rhondda, Cynon, Taff
Posted: 38 minutes ago by Angela O (Daughter of Respite Resident)
During my Dad's recent stay at Aberpennar Court, I would just like to say the care he received was excellent, it was very hard putting him in there but the staff were exceptional not only in the care they gave him but also making me feel better in what I was doing. I didn't think he would come back home but due to the perseverance of the staff and his determination his mobility improved and after four weeks he came back home. If it wasn't for the excellent staff this wouldn't have happened. My dad also said he wasn't afraid to go back there as it was like home from home.

Arden Manor Wolverhampton, West Midlands

Caring, friendly staff who create a happy family environment. The new manager has created a homely feeling in the living areas and is working towards raising funds for external trips for the residents. There is now an events programme which involves residents and relatives. My parents are treated with love and respect, any issues are always discussed openly with me.

My Aunt spent five months in Aberpennar Court, she was looked after by all the staff with extreme dignity. My Aunt could be very difficult at times but the staff had patience and time for her event though their job was demanding on all levels.

St Augustine's Court Care Home Nottingham, Nottinghamshire

Thank you to Angie and the staff for the excellent care my mum, June, received whilst she was resident in the home, especially the wonderful care she received from Angie in mum's final days before she passed away. A big thank you to all the staff for the support they gave to June's family and for the numerous pots of tea. God bless you all.

Elm House Southport, Merseyside
Posted: 1 hour ago by Paula F (Son of Resident)
Elm house is a relatively small nursing home in a victorian building. This building has narrow corridors, which connect excellent facilities and large rooms. The conservatory is lovely to sit in and socialise in. Regular singers/entertainers are invited in for residents. There is also a separate activities room looking out on an accessible garden (residents ducks ass interest) The rooms are ensuite and well cared for/cleaned to a high standard. The staff are incredible and constantly go the extra mile to help residents and their visitors/family. The matron Brenda and staff are very caring about the residents and good communication to family members. The chef is excellent and prepares great food. The activities co-ordinator Vincent is also excellent and communicates well with family. We enjoy seeing his updates on the website. We are very happy with the care homes family atmosphere and the way they deal with our relative. I would highly recommend an excellent service.

Hunters Lodge Fareham, Hampshire

The staff at Hunters Lodge have more than gone the extra mile with my mother. They have had extra training to deal with her from hospital, it has been a challenge that they have welcomed and helped her to settle down. They are all very caring and kind, even when my mother is grumpy! They are amazing!!

Stayed 4 weeks in June 2014. Had enjoyable 4 weeks respite, would have stayed longer, looked after very well, came home refreshed. Nice dining room, beautiful garden, would go again without hesitation. For a 98 year old it was special. Manageress, enjoyable and helpful. Fully recommended, loved them all.

St Christopher's Nursing Home Hatfield, Hertfordshire
Posted: 1 hour ago by Keith Parke (Son of resident)
My mother was placed in St Christopher's after a hospital stay. Dementia was now acute and was weak on arrival. Every effort was made to encourage drinking and eating, all staff very helpful at a difficult time. The care assistants very good at supplying extra pillows to put her in a better position to swallow liquids. The staff worked in harmony, all wearing uniforms. A guide to their grades was in every room. Nurses very good at answering questions. Very clean rooms, good furniture. Views of gardens from most rooms.

Barchester Red Oaks Care Home Henfield, West Sussex

Commenting specifically on the dementia wing, excellent care, especially the two team leaders who have each been there for over a decade, only with this form of leadership consistency brings the settled environment, which is so essential for the confused elderly i.e. low turnover of staff.

Gilwern House Blackwood, Caerphilly
Posted: 2 hours ago by Elizabeth Walker (Daughter in law of resident)
I would most definitely recommend Gilwern House to anyone who is looking for residential accommodation. The staff are friendly and just like family, the food is excellent as are the bedrooms, it is like home from home. We never feel strange or like outsiders when we go to visit, in fact I like it and always feel relaxed and comfortable there. Iris is always chatting and getting involved with their welfare. Definitely 10 out of 10.

Sundial Lodge Torquay, Devon
Posted: 2 hours ago by Thomas W (Resident)
I cannot recommend this care home too highly, nothing is too much trouble and every wish is attended to. Meals are excellent and served in my room. There is a sundeck which is easily accessible and tea and coffee are supplied regularly both on the sundeck and in the residents lounge. There is a vehicle which is suitable for disabled persons and trips are arranged several times weekly.

Trevern Falmouth, Cornwall
Posted: 2 hours ago by Sally A (Daughter of resident)
I cannot fault the care my mother is receiving at Trevern. The staff are all lovely and I am confident that she is in the best hands and is safe. There are some communication problems between the carers and the nurses which hopefully will be resolved and I feel there should be more than one nurse on duty at any one time for necessary backup.

My aunt has been in 2 previous homes in the last 3/4 years and I must say since she has been at Franklin House she has improved visibly and physically, even mentally. We as a family are much happier in that she seems happier. I would recommend this home for anyone looking for a place for their loved one.
