Care Homes that are part of RDB Star Rating


The RDB Star Rating accreditation scheme was introduced to identify good care practitioners and to highlight them to the general public through a star rating.

The RDB model is designed to apply to public, private and voluntary care establishments alike. As many of the standards are based on outcomes of care, the scheme is applicable to small and large providers and to many different types of care providers, covering clients with varying levels of dependency.

The RDB assessment tool design is based on the key factors that impact on the lives of clients. This clientfocused approach encompasses a diverse range of care standards, ranging from the way personal care is offered to the management of the home and of its personnel. A rigorous assessment process has been devised to assess these care standards in an objective and reliable manner.

Sue Brand, managing director of RDB Star Rating and a care home owner herself, comments: ‘Care homes which regularly put themselves forward for annual accreditation are demonstrating a real commitment to improving the quality of life for their residents. Feedback from star-rated homes tells us that residents feel that they have a voice in their home in the areas which really have an impact on their daily lives – such as meal times and the social programme. Managers also notice a real increase in staff morale. We see demonstrated the contribution RDB is making to better care for all, as homes improve their star ratings year-on-year’.
