Review of Homesdale, London by William Sugrue (Son of resident)

During late 2011 it became increasingly noticeable that our* mother (Aged 89) could no longer continue to live the independent life that she valued so dearly. After soliciting advice from friends and local professionals, as well as researching published data on quality of care standards, we decided with our mother that Homesdale was the best choice for her residential care. As there were no vacancies at the time of application, our mother was admitted to a care home in a nearby district run by a large national organisation. During her time at this care home, our mother's overall condition deteriorated and we were of the view that its "factory" approach to care was the opposite of what we were seeking. We became increasingly desperate "to do something", and it was with relief that we heard from Homesdale that they had a vacancy in the early Autumn 2011. At this point we did not actually know what the experienced standard of care was at Homesdale, but our intuitive view was that it had to be better than what our mother had experienced previously. She, and we, were not disappointed! At he point of entry to Homesdale, our mother was, for example, refusing to get out of bed, had lost interest in life/living, and was suffering severe back pain and memory loss. Now, six months later, she is a different person - more alert and communicative, looks better and takes more interest in her dress, etc., complains less of aches and pains, and remembers most things (even though, sometimes this needs a little prompting!). Clearly, Homedale staff have developed an individual care plan for our mother, constantly seek to involve her in social activities and games, urge her to make decisions and welcome family and friends to be involved in the Home.

My mother has been in Homesdale for over 18 months now and I continue to be impressed with the loving care she continues to receive there. Moreover, now that the lounge extension has been completed, it provides a pleasant comfortable and easily accessible environment for the residents and visitors with the French doors and windows open. It will be wonderful in the summer months.

Homesdale is a small care home in a village part of London, in a Victorian house with a homely feel. It's part of a larger sheltered housing complex and activities are often shared. Residents are thoughtfully cared for and the food is good! The rooms are pleasant and well looked after. Laundry is well organised. The surrounding gardens are attractive. Managing staff are accessible and flexible, they cooperate with families to ensure the resident has the best possible quality of life.

Mum lived at Homesdale for 4 years. During her time there she was looked after by caring staff in a homely environment. She enjoyed the many varied activities offered and her empty plate was a testament to the quality of the food. Whenever I visited I was made welcome and both the staff and residents became her extended 'family'.

I can recommend Homesdale as they have made my parents very welcome and have done everything they can to ensure they are cared for and happy. The staff are kind and cheerful. The meals are varied and nutritional and Mum and Dad are looked after very well. The home is clean and comfortable and they have two lovely rooms. I do not have to worry about them as I know they are in safe and reliable hands.

My father was apprehensive about moving into a care home but was made very welcome at Homesdale. All of the staff are very friendly and caring and within a few weeks he said he could not imagine living alone any more, there was always something going on, he was never bored, and he settled in very quickly.

My mother is in this care home and is happy here. The staff are very patient, considerate and caring. They are improving the communal sitting area, with a huge veranda. All profits go back into the home. It's clean and the accommodation is nice. The food is good, and it has a friendly atmosphere.

Our mother has been in Homesdale for over 4 years now, it's always hard choosing the right home & even harder taking the person from their home environment but we can honestly say that the staff at Homesdale understand this & encourage relatives to come & go whenever they want. When our mother's been poorly the seniors on duty phone to let us know whats going on. The entertainment takes place every week day where we have had many laughs. If at any time we have a problem or feel unsure about anything we can always speak to the manager who's door is always open. We have been happy with her care & would happily recommend this home.

A diverse community offering a home from home to all residents. Sheltered accommodation mixed with high dependency care. All delivered in an atmosphere that is non-commercial, friendly, genuinely caring and personalised. My aunt lived on her own all her life and is a very independent person, and is completely happy in Holmesdale.

Mum going into care was a big worry - how would she get on? Homesdale put my concerns at rest (and more importantly Mum's too), as I soon knew I was dealing with friendly, professional, caring people that provided a first class service. Mum was given a lovely room, which is the standard for all residents. The home has a special feel to it, and although you are always very welcome at any time as a visitor, you feel as if you too are part of the Family! Mum has been a resident for a while now, and there has not been any occasion where any little question I have asked has not been answered in a courteous, helpful manner. The staff take time to make sure that I know all that's going on in Mum's life, and regularly ask me how I think they are doing - that's service. My Family look forward to coming to Homesdale with myself, and my Mum get's visits from her Grandchildren on their own - something I know they would not do if they did not feel welcome or comfortable here. There really is not much more to say, other than I would thoroughly recommend Homesdale to anyone who has to make a decision, and you must visit yourself to see how well run this home is.

Holmesdale is truly a home from home. Warm, friendly and caring, with comfortable rooms and communal areas and the staff are your new 'daughter/niece/sister'. Communication is excellent and your welcome, as a visitor, is always warmly assured. Every foible of the residents is carefully noted and accommodated. Highly recommended!. (my room in 30 years' time already booked!).

I am impressed with the caring, friendly staff. They strive to make the home welcoming and organise quizes, games and musical events for the residents. The rooms are bright and the well maintained gardens are a pleasant outlook. The food is varied and well prepared. I would definately recommend this home.

Homesdale is a small, warm, friendly home where the residents are really cared for. Nothing is ever too much trouble. I feel very very fortunate that my Mum found her way to Homesdale

The staff are caring and kind. I visit my mother at least three times aweek and she is always clean and cared for. The residents have activities most days and do not sit staring at television. The staff make time for visitors and explain what the situation with your family member is at anytime you ask if possible. Also the food is excellent and home cooked.

Homesdale is a small and friendly Baptist Care Home; providing, in my opinion, a good standard of care and support to residents and their relatives. I visit my mother regularly at all times of the day and I have found a welcoming atmosphere with friendly staff who have developed a good relationship with the residents. The staff are helpful, patient and cheerfull too!
