Latham House is a 12-bedded house split into 2 units for 6 people, situated in a rural location of Wyboston, Bedfordshire. This is a specialist unit for adults with low functioning Autism and challenging behaviours, who require 24 hour staffing support. Clients at Latham House have difficulty with written and verbal communication, staff work with the clients and Speech & Language Therapists to identify which method of communication is most suited to the resident, i.e. menus, how does the resident choose what they would like for breakfast? Do they respond better towards a photo of the cereal or actual 2 bowls placed in front of them? The use of images is being incorporated into resident’s timetables and social stories. |
