Cunningham House has a warm, caring feel to it. The staff are so dedicated to the residents, they treat each one as if they were their own family. They do a wide variety of activities throughout the day. My mum is a changed person since she has been there, she's so happy and has made a lot of friends.

In all the 8 odd years that my sister has made Cunningham House her home, I can only say that she has always been treated as one of the family. It is not an easy job caring for the aged, but staff are always helpful, kind and ready to welcome you when you visit. My thanks and praise to all of them including the Chief.

My mother is in the final stages of dementia and all her carers are trained to deal with her many quirks. She is treated as an individual by people who genuinely care for her. Standards in the home are continually monitored by Rosemary Moor, Manager and her Assistant Manager and seniors. Many people do not care or understand dementia, but Cunningham House certainly does and proves this daily!

A warm welcoming environment in which residents are well cared for. Activities are provided to meet varied interests and to keep minds alert as possible. Staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are airy, pleasant and residents can personalise them with their own belongings. The grounds are lovely to sit out and the various animals provide additional interest.

The staff are very thoughtful and caring, building a relationship with the residents which is personal at the same time as very professional. It's a great comfort to me as a relative to know that the care couldn't be bettered.

Caring for a range of disabilites whilst treating each resident as an individual. Provide a range of activites and adapt them to include as many as possible. Food good with alternatives available. Like the stimulus home atmosphere created by having a cat, allowing dogs, visiting peacock, pet pigs, chickens, all provide interest.

The care and attention shown to my father is fantastic. There is always a friendly face to welcome you and if there are any problems they are discussed and remedied straight away. Staff are always in the vicinity of the resident's rooms and a helping hand is always there. The food choices are good and all meals are enjoyable. The cleaniness is very noticable both of the home and residents. Quite honestly I cannot think of a better place for him to live than Cunningham Court. He is really happy and grateful to be a resident.

I visit my great Aunt in this care home quite regularly. The accommodation feels like someone`s own home, the staff are very friendly and keep the residents entertained with various activities. There are always fresh flowers which I think it a lovely touch.

Both my parents moved to Abbeyfield North Weald several years ago. We could not have wished for better care for both my father until his death, and my mother who has Alzheimer's. The home is extremely clean The residents are well fed, clean and nicely turned out. They are treated with respect and there is no doubt that the staff are genuinely fond of those under their care. Emotional, physical, and medical needs are all well catered for. Entertainment is provided and visitors are always welcomed. In all the years that our parents have been at Abbeyfield we have never had cause to complain. Coming from a large family with much medical and nursing experience, who take the care of our parents extremely seriously, this is a well meant compliment. Staff have actually gone out on a limb to defend our mother who received appalling treatment when attending a local hospital. They had no need to speak up, but did as they take their responsibility so seriously. Several members of staff attended our Father`s funeral in their own time and were genuinely sad for our loss. The Abbeyfield team are extremely effective and efficient as well as caring, we are very privileged to have our parents cared for by such wonderful people.

I come into contact with the admin staff on a daily basis through the course of my employment. If the care staff are as kind courteous and efficient as these people, which i am sure they are, then the residents are in good hands. In fact, when the happy day comes that i can throw off the inhumanities of regular employment and retire, i would quite happily move in!

I would have no hesitation in recommending the above for alzheimer`s care. My sister has been there for some time, and on the occasions that I have visited without any prior notification, it is obvious that she is well cared for, clean, her hair done, with no odour in the home. All the staff are pleasant and there are many activities laid on for the residents. This home is a revelation as to how alzheimer`s patients should be treated and cared for and is in distinct contrast to her previous home. Anyone would be particularly impressed as to how this home is run.

My Mother lived in the Residential Unit for 5 months until she died and now my Mother-in-Law has been living in the EMI Unit for the past year. We couldn`t have asked for better care for either of them. The staff, from the manager to the newest recruit, are all wonderful, so pleasant & attentive at all times. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Their job is not always easy, yet they are always cheerful. The activities co-ordinator also does a fantastic job. Rosemary Moor, the Manager, who works such long hours, is often around among the residents not tucked away in an office somewhere. We are always free to visit at any time. We are really pleased with Cunningham House and would recommend it.

I would like to recommend Cunningham House. The level of care provided by Cunningham House is extremely high due to the following: The carers are fully trained to be sensitive and understanding to the needs of people in their care and people with dementia. People in their care are not looked upon as residents, but people with feelings who still wish to enjoy life and part of the family. Cunningham House believe heavily in stimulation, the smiles and happiness which spreads across their faces when an entertainer sings a certain song is priceless. In the case of my mother, the medical support and care provided was exceptional. I felt my mother was looked upon as part of the family. Every effort was taken to sustain her quality of life and to make things as comfortable as possible when she became terminally ill.

Saturday 1 January 2011
I had never visited or had any dealings with a care home, but on finding myself having to decide on future care for my mother, I visited a number of homes. Cunningham House by far excelled in all areas, and I noticed that not only were the residents happy but the staff were all smiling to. Not only are the facilities to such a high standard, but the staff appear knowledgeable and kind, but without the patronising tone of other care homes I visited. I was so pleased and reassured by what I saw as I had always had such a negative image of care homes. Cunningham House made me realise that there is life after 70, and that being a life which is happy, and where you can be respected. I feel so positive about my mothers future, and this is all thanks to Cunningham House and the amazing job they do. I would recommend this home to everyone who wants excellent care, and a happy relative or friend.

I believe Cunningham should be recommemded. Their care and attention to detail makes this a very special place. There is so much negative press about care homes but Cunningham House proves it is not always the case. The home is so welcoming as are all the staff from the manager to the cleaner. Everyone is made to feel a part and are valued for their part. The gardens are varied and the seaside is just an amazing area and is much used with a variety of activities themed round it. But also the music garden of Hollywood and the quiet reflective other areas. The pets add that homely feel from the Peahens to the chicks and the cat and kittens. The kittens freely move round the home bringing great joy to the residents and are very therapeutic but add to the lovely homely feel. The staff are always professional and well presented and all appear to have a great level of knowledge and understanding but always time for everyone, whether a resident or anxious relative. There is always so much going on but time for relaxation too. The activities are varied and the Activity person adapts to suit people`s needs and any special occasions. There are many different things to do each day and it is clear to see every person matters. It really has to be felt to understand how Cunningham House gives such quality to the people they care for. Amazing and certainly gets my vote.

On searching for a care home for my Nan, my family went to view Cunningham House, we were greeted by Della the Deputy Manager from the Dementia Unit, who was extremly helpful and was able to answer all our questions. I have been here for many years and I am now 100. It is a good job there are places like this to come to when we are old and can`t manage ourselves. I`ve got lots of friends here and there is always something to do. it is not an easy job putting up with old people, we can be grumpy, you know. On the whole we get on really well and the staff work very hard looking after us all. It`s got to be people who really want to do the job and wouldn`t want to do anything else and I think all the staff here are very dedicated and really do look after us well

Tuesday 28 December 2010
I would whole heartedly recommend Cunningham House and the staff. The care is second to none and I trawled through many homes before I found this gem. The staff are so committed to every detail and the atmosphere is so warm and welcoming to everyone. The Manager runs a splendid ship where everyone matters and the staff are trained to very high levels. Rosemary, the Manager, knows every person in her care and every detail of their needs. Her knowledge of everything seems limitless and she does much of the teaching of her staff, continually raising the standards. Her energy seems endless and she brings out the best in her team who share her desire to continually improve and build. The home is always clean but not clinical. A real home and for many nursed right through to the very end with everything they need brought in so they do not spend their last days in a faceless ward with people who don`t know them. And staff are with anyone dying 24hrs a day doing everything they can to make their last days as comfortable as possible in surroundings they view as their home. I visited over Christmas and found the Manager playing and singing for a carol service with her family and all the staff singing and playing percussion instruments along with the residents. It was so happy and no one gets forgotten. The whole of December was filled with special activities and entertainment in addition to the many daily activities that go on all year. There was school concerts, bell ringers, singers, groups, film afternoons; in fact so much that my own life seems boring in comparison. As one gentleman said, `why would I want to go anywhere else when I have so much choice and such kindness here?` I don`t think there is a Care Home that can match Cunningham House or the staff that work there. It really is the standard that all should be aiming for though Cunningham is way out in front of anyone around. It is worthy of any and every award.

Having visited many homes trying to identify a suitable place for my father - Eddie - I had been quite unnerved by what I had seen. However, having been tipped off about Cunningham House, I visited one Friday afternoon and within seconds I knew I was entering a different world because I was so impressed by what I saw. No residents `parked up` out of the way of `busy` staff, or unpleasant all pervading aromas - it was calm and everyone I saw, including the residents I spoke to, appeared cheerful. Cunningham House was bright, airey, welcoming and the purpose built facilities and edge of forest location meant it was quiet and peaceful. All the staff I met that day were warm, smiley and dealt with residents in a respectful manner and Rosemary, the manager, was just great. Fortunately my father was prepared to give it a go! and now, some 11 months on, I am so thankful that I found the place, he was accepted and has now settled down. It has proved to be just as good as I hoped and Rosemary is an exceptional person - so professional and compassionate with tremendous devotion to the people in her care. Her team are wonderful and my father has been looked after so well and they have coped with his various health and mobility problems with great kindness. Cunningham House should be cited as an example of how to `do` care homes - I am just so thankful that my father is safe and sound as that has finally enabled me to `step back` and relax knowing he is in excellent hands. I cannot recommend Cunningham House highly enough and hope it is still going when I reach that stage in my life as I will definitely be booking myself a room!

Cunningham House, in our opinion, is of the highest standard in many ways. My mother is currently a resident in the Dementia Unit and the level of care she receives is outstanding, from the management of the home itself to the nursing and caring staff. My mother is treated with respect from staff who have a high level of understanding of her type of dementia and treat her accordingly. As well as having clean and comfortable surroundings, there are varied daily activities to stimulate the mind and body and the resident's personal likes and dislikes are taken into account. There is a clear understanding of how to deal with dementia patients, both emotionally and physically without the use of extreme medication. The residents are encouraged to move about as freely as they can and the facilities bear this out, with large clean open lounges and a 1940s seaside garden, an art room, hairdressing salon and much more. The moment a loved one is placed into residential care, is often the last resort, but it is made much easier if you feel confident that the very best is being done to provide your relative with the best in the circumstances, which Cunningham House provides.

This is the second home my mother has been in and I can`t fault it and highly recommend it.

I would like to recommend the above home (Cunningham House, North Weald Essex). My mother-in- law has been in the home for over 4 years . I could not ask for better care from the staff and the building is just what my mother-in-law requires.

My mother who will be 99 in January has been a resident at Cunningham House since May 99. At all times during this time my family and myself have found every member of the staff caring, helpful, polite and very aware of my mother`s needs both physical and emotional. In seventeen months we have not had cause to criticise or complain about any aspect of my mother`s care.

The staff at cunningham house looked after my grandparents in their final years. The staff were always happy and chatty and it was clear they truly loved all the residents within the home and cared deeply about them all. After my grandma passed away my grandfather missed her terribly and I feel that the staff there helped him to cope with his loss extremely well. I remember always being touched that they knew so much about them both and had made the effort to find things out. Also the fact that some of the staff attended both grandparent's funerals which the family thought was very caring of them. I can`t say enough to express my gratitude at the level of care that the staff at cunningham House had with my granparents.

My grandparents lived there in the last years of their lives and were incredibly well cared for. Everyone at Cunningham House is greatly appreciated.

Cunningham House is a home (in every sense of the word) for many poor souls with dementia - it has a heart and Rosemary Moor (Manager) certainly has her finger on the pulse. My mother has lived here for nearly 4 years and is in the late stages of dementia - she isn`t always easy but the staff are caring and she is treated as an individual as is every other resident. Nothing is perfect in the imperfect world in which we live but Cunningham House does its very best.
