  • The Review Score (maximum of 10) is made up of a Quality Score (maximum of 5) and Quantity Score (maximum of 5):

    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. (Please note that the ratings of Very Poor and Poor have only been available since the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015.)

      The Quality Score (average rating) of 4.726 for Woodlands Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (64 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 84 Ratings = 4.726

      • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 4.152 for Woodlands Care Home is calculated as follows:

      1. 7 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 7 Positive Reviews = 0.700

      3. (7 Positive Reviews ÷ 31 Registered Beds) x 2 = 0.452

My mother was a resident for a period of time until her death on 25th September 2015. The staff were marvelous and my mother enjoyed her last days at Woodlands being very well cared for, being treated with dignity and respect in a well maintained home.

Woodlands has a lovely relaxed atmosphere where the staff and residents can often be seen chatting and interacting. There are regular activities for the residents and the food is varied, and of good quality. The residents are given choices on aspects of the daily living and are encouraged to socialise particularly at meal times.

Like many people I had no prior experience of care homes until 3 months ago when my 88 year old mother couldn't manage on her own at home with a debilitating condition. We were suddenly forced us to seek specialist help and Woodlands was recommended as one of the best places around. The whole family have been delighted with everything we have seen since she moved in. Woodlands has a hotel-like feel and is a million miles from hospital (which would have been the alternative). I visit daily yet have never once witnessed anything other than genuine and considerate care to all the residents. The facilities are indeed excellent but the real asset which in my opinion trumps everything else is the quality of the staff who are all exceptional. It is such a relief to know Mum is being cared for by such lovely people. I have no hesitation in recommending Woodlands to anyone else seeking care for a loved one.

Our dear Mum entered Woodlands with declining health just before Christmas and unfortunately she had so many medical conditions she died in early April. In the sorrow the one redeeming feature was the outstanding care and attention she received from Woodlands in that period. My brother and I have never had any doubt that we made a very good choice for her.

As you review care homes as a visitor it is very difficult to make a decision based upon perceptions of food, cleanliness, activities and so on so we concentrated on the fundamental characteristics which underpin any service provider - the quality of the management and the quality of the people in the team. We were quietly impressed during the assessment visit, and that impression has been vindicated by the professionalism and performance of both in delivery.

The management have what appears to be a relaxed and calm approach, however this is underpinned by what is a high level of professionalism, and a desire to deliver a high quality of service. All their processes and procedures seem to be executed well, and the control and motivation of the team appears to be very effective.... and the team seem to respond in kind.

The staff are unfailingly kind, caring, compassionate, energetic and committed to the well-being of the residents. They seem to go that extra mile - to do more than just what is adequate. They seem to have a genuine affection for everyone in their care.

There is one additional point to include, and whilst it is possibly an uncomfortable topic to contemplate, for us it was an to prove an incredibly positive aspect, and that was end of life / palliative care. Mum was so distressed in hospital as her range of problems overwhelmed her body. Theoretically, medically, she should have remained in hospital until the end but we did not want that for her, and I am absolutely sure she did not want if for herself. It was brilliant that Woodlands offered to do more than would normally be expected of a Residential Care home and that was for her to come back to what was now her 'home' for the last phase in her life. They provided a level of personal care, attention and compassion which is just not possible in a large, busy, anonymous hospital. The way she was looked after at this difficult time was outstanding.

My brother and I have a profound sense of relief at having found what appears to be a genuine Care home that ticks all the important boxes. Overarching this sense is a belief that this is an establishment and a team where "what you see is what you get". Visiting other homes I was left with a distinct impression that what was visible was to a significant extent a facade or veneer.... and that what the home would be able to deliver would not match the words being used.
In contrast Joanne and her team at Woodlands came over as quietly professional and competent, truly caring for the residents because of their personalities and not because it is just a paying job, and operating to very high standards.
It is just a matter of weeks since mother has become a resident, and the transition, in trying circumstances, has gone exceedingly well.

Mothers natural depressive nature has been overcome, her outstanding health issues have been or are being addressed and she is settling in well.

The family has a real sense of optimism for mother in enjoying a period where she is physically, mentally and emotionally very well looked after.

The care home have enabled me to be mum's son again - rather than her carer. The staff are very patient and caring - thank you.
