The Review Score (maximum of 10) is made up of a Quality Score (maximum of 5) and Quantity Score (maximum of 5):
Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. (Please note that the ratings of Very Poor and Poor have only been available since the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015.)
The Quality Score (average rating) of 3.182 for Vesta Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (8 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 22 Ratings = 3.182

Any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this care provider to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'
Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)
The 5 points available are broken down as follows:
3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.
0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)
(Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.
(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points
The Quantity Score of 3.133 for Vesta Lodge is calculated as follows:
1 Positive Reviews = 3
0.1 x 1 Positive Reviews = 0.100
(1 Positive Reviews ÷ 61 Registered Beds) x 2 = 0.033

Review submitted from a Website Submission by Joyce H (Wife of Resident/Service User) on Monday 1 August 2016. Review relates to May 2016.
When my husband was found unconscious at Vesta Lodge and taken to Watford General, his 9ct gold watch went missing. He died on 14 May. They did not appear to do proper searches. A mug also went missing but was found when a man in a uniform, with police on it, paid them a visit. No watch has even been found. There were no locked drawers/cupboards in his room, which there should have been. No apology ever received, only letters demanding payment for care fees. This incident has been very unpleasant and upsetting as he always wore the watch. I have very little in the way of his personal possessions, they did not seem to care about the loss.

Debbie Gilard, Communications Manager at Vesta Lodge responded to this review on 10 Aug 2016:
At Quantum Care, the health, safety and well-being of our residents is our utmost priority, and we are therefore really disappointed that despite extensive and on-going searches, we have been unable to resolve this matter to the satisfaction of this relative. All new residents are advised to take out insurance for personal items of value brought into the home. Where requested, a locked drawer will be provided in each bedroom.
Recommendation submitted from a Postal Card by Susan S (Daughter of Resident/Service User) on Thursday 25 June 2015.
In general terms, Mums family were happy about mums care during the four months mum lived at Vesta Lodge. I visited at least 10 times (because I live 100 miles away) and each visit I was welcomed by staff in reception who knew my name. This was most satisfying as I felt it indicated a personal touch. My other family members visited more frequently and were also impressed with the level of care given to the residents however, I was not sure about the fact that residents doors (including mums) were always left open when they were not in their room which led to other residents "visiting" Mum which she did not want.
