  • The Review Score (maximum of 10) is made up of a Quality Score (maximum of 5) and Quantity Score (maximum of 5):

    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. (Please note that the ratings of Very Poor and Poor have only been available since the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015.)

      The Quality Score (average rating) of 4.258 for The Island Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (52 Excellents x 5) + (49 Goods x 4) + (17 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 120 Ratings = 4.258

      • Any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this care provider to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

      • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 4.526 for The Island Residential Home is calculated as follows:

      1. 10 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 10 Positive Reviews = 1.000

      3. (10 Positive Reviews ÷ 38 Registered Beds) x 2 = 0.526

  • The Review Score is based on user Recommendations/Reviews submitted in the last 2 years. The maximum Review Score is 10. It's lovely to hear such kind words about our staff team

Since I came here straight from hospital, I was in a very bad way health wise, as well as my mental health. Since Jan 2016 the home has helped me in many ways. Helping me with some of my problems regarding my medical and mental health. I'm not quite there yet but with their help, I'm looking forward to the years to come!

B Dhaliwal, Care Manager at The Island Residential Home responded to this review on 22 Apr 2016:

Sorry that you find two of our standards poor. We work closely with an activities coordinator to provide services for our whole client group and we utilise outside agencies dependant on client specific needs.

We are a secure unit and clients can access common areas with freedom. Clients can ask for bedroom keys which are offered at move in and then on request.

After 20 years it is still okay, I am still here.

My mother has only just moved into this home, I looked at other homes, some were much more modern and looked like a new hotel but lacked the personal touch, others were shabby and not very nice, The Island home is homely and very clean, the staff are welcoming and willing to help at every opportunity, I know this will be a difficult transition for my mum but was pleased to leave her in friendly hands.
