The Review Score of 9.664 for Newland House is based on 13 Reviews/Recommendations in the last 2 years.

  • The Review Score (maximum of 10) is made up of a Quality Score (maximum of 5) and Quantity Score (maximum of 5):

    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. (Please note that the ratings of Very Poor and Poor have only been available since the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015.)

      The Quality Score (average rating) of 4.735 for Newland House is calculated as follows: ( (114 Excellents x 5) + (41 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 155 Ratings = 4.735

    • Quantity Score: 5 Points are available for the number of 'Positive Reviews' for a care home / service. A Positive Review is defined as:

      • Any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this care provider to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

      • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 4.929 for Newland House is calculated as follows:

      1. 13 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 13 Positive Reviews = 1.300 (maximum score = 1)

      3. (13 Positive Reviews ÷ 28 Registered Beds) x 2 = 0.929

  • The Review Score is based on user Recommendations/Reviews submitted in the last 2 years. The maximum Review Score is 10. There are 5 Points available for the average of all ratings on users Recommendations/Reviews (Excellent 5, Good 4, Satisfactory 3, Poor 2, Very Poor 1). Visited over the past nine years to see my old neighbour and her sister, who was also in the home from 2013 - 2015. The staff are delightful, willing and able. They appear to love their jobs and really care about the residents, treating them with respect and dignity, but also with affection.
My neighbour found staff were so kind and she enjoyed joking with them. They provided very individualised care, including shopping and visits to the garden centre before she became too frail. During her last days she was kept comfortable and at peace. Her sister, who died last year received the same high standard of care.
Surroundings are pleasant, bright and clean. They are decorated and re-furnished regularly, making it so homelike for residents.
The staff are always welcoming in spite of a busy workload and work well as a team. Some have been in post all the years I visited. I congratulate them for their excellent care and praise them for their very valuable work.

Newland House is not a "typical" care home. It is a very friendly community where all the residents are treated with dignity, dedication and with utmost respect. The staff are jolly, upbeat in manner, enthusiasm and genuinely interested in all the residents they care for. They also cater for all the residents individual needs as they present themselves at any given time. The manager herself is extremely open and honest- telling one how things really are- with much insight and understanding.

A warm friendly atmosphere greets you when you step through the door of Newland House. Dad is treated with respect, dignity and as an individual. The staff are very caring and professional and I feel relieved and reassured that dad is being well looked after. There are lots of planned activities which dad is happy to take part in and he now has more of a life than he did at home on his own. The manager runs the home well and she and all the staff are very approachable and happy to discuss any concerns we may have. Dad is settling in well and seems happy and content thanks to the care and attentiveness of the wonderful staff.

My mother is well cared for by a lovely team of carers. The manager and deputy are friendly and welcoming, and promote a high standard of care. Mother always looks well groomed, her behaviour can be challenging at times, this is dealt with in a kind and professional manner by all. The home is always clean, residents are treated as individuals. All the staff including the handyman, cook and cleaners as well as managers and carers threat all residents with respect and care.

My wife has dementia and has been at Newland house since December 2015, she can no longer walk, talk or feed herself. It is very homely atmosphere and al lthe staff are very caring not just to my but to myself if I ever have any concerns and is always explained clearly this also applies if any medication change is made, I am informed as soon as possible. Many activities take place although my wife can no longer join in they always try and include her. The food is very good and after a regular meeting with family and senior staff the menu change slightly to include more diverse tastes and flavours. I cannot speak more highly of Newland House 10/10 a great home with professional, caring staff.

Mum, aged 92, moved from Portsmouth to Newland House in October 2014, after family concerns regarding her ability to cope on her own in her flat, due to both memory and mobility problems. Newland House is a welcoming friendly home and not being huge (26 rooms max) has a real family feel to it. We have been so impressed by the love, care and support both mum, and on some occasions when she was very poorly family, have received from the staff. Mum loves being there, she has put on weight, enjoys taking part in activities and talks enthusiastically about all the staff. We have complete faith in the staff who support her and completely understand her needs. We know she is safe and happy, which is reassuring to her family.

It took over six years to find a suitable care home for my uncle. Newland House have been amazing supporting my uncle's needs and supporting us, the family. Above everything the managers were able to see past my uncles learning disability and see the person. An elderly person in need of 24 hour care with personal care, mobility support and other medical needs. The house is a home, warm and friendly. Newland House is different to any care home I have seen, staff (all staff) go out of their way to welcome visitors, nothing is seen as a problem, they offer a solution. We cannot recommend them highly enough, very impressed. Various activities every day to stimulate and engage residents if they wish. Three course meals and tea provided every day, it feels like a hotel.

My neighbour has been in Newland House for over a year now and as it is only a few hundred yards from my home I can visit regularly. I have always found it has a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. There are always plenty of activities for the residents and the staff seem to go out of their way to help the residents.
