The Review Score of 8.529 for Sheerwater House is based on 4 Reviews/Recommendations in the last 2 years.

  • The Review Score (maximum of 10) is made up of a Quality Score (maximum of 5) and Quantity Score (maximum of 5):

    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. (Please note that the ratings of Very Poor and Poor have only been available since the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015.)

      The Quality Score (average rating) of 4.729 for Sheerwater House is calculated as follows: ( (38 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 4.729

    • Quantity Score: 5 Points are available for the number of 'Positive Reviews' for a care home / service. A Positive Review is defined as:

      • Any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this care provider to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

      • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 3.8 for Sheerwater House is calculated as follows:

      1. 4 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 4 Positive Reviews = 0.400

      3. (4 Positive Reviews ÷ 20 Registered Beds) x 2 = 0.400

  • The Review Score is based on user Recommendations/Reviews submitted in the last 2 years. The maximum Review Score is 10. My mother has been a resident here since November 2014 the home is extremely friendly. I can visit any time with no restrictions and am made to feel welcome, I am even given tea and cakes. They are looking after Mum and taking a lot of the stress from me.

A care home that cares.

Our mum always said she dreaded the day when we all started school as she felt she was losing us. We felt that same dread when, with sadness, we were told that our mum needed more care than we could give her. Where would she go? Dementia had already stolen part of her from us. Where could we take her to keep her safe? We decided to visit several care homes that had been recommended to us, but we decided to go unannounced so that we would get a true picture. Sheerwater House was unfazed by our impromptu arrival. We were warmly welcomed and were invited to look around, nothing was hidden or off limits. The atmosphere is a warm and friendly one and the lovely rapport between staff and residents is immediately visible. We just knew this was the right place for mum to be. Mum moved in and was happy. She was treated with kindness, love and dignity. Dementia however is very cruel and bit by bit stole more of our mother away from us and she grew more fragile, hospital doctors told us time was running out. Sheerwater House never gave up on our mum. They loved and cared for her right up until she fell asleep forever. Their love and care gave us precious extra time with our mum that we never thought we would have. THANK YOU for your care and kindness.

After 2 years at a previous care home we were told my mother would need nursing care and wouldn't be able to walk or feed herself again. After 2 weeks at Sheerwater House the very professional staff in my opinion worked a miracle because my mother can now access the house and gardens independently and has her dignity back. Every time I visit, my mother is happy and smiling making me confident that the staff are looking after her extremely well and I can't thank them enough!

I would thoroughly recommend this care home, they have looked after my mother extremely well, calling the doctor if and when necessary, giving her a birthday party and generally looking after her wellbeing as well as we could hope. She is very happy there.
