This is a true home which works 100 per cent as a team, giving excellent care to all. They have worked so hard together for many years and this has been celebrated, well done to everyone at Browns Field House. The team won best regional care home earlier this year 2010, and then went onto winning as a team in the national and international Dementia Care Team awards, what stars they all are!!!!!!!!

I have been involved with Brownsfield House since 1999 when my parents first moved into the home, as my mother was suffering from Dementia. Although they are no longer alive i still remain in contact with home and visit the great staffs whenever i can. They are a great caring team which have been very stable, many whom have worked in the home long before 1999. This home gets my vote, well done!

I`m recommending this as the best care home because the carers are so dedicated, loyal and passionate about the care they give to all the residents which is truly person centered, many residents have dementia but the carers provide a true home for all to live in. The home uses no agency carers due to the carers whom have been at the home for many years and they are so committed, this provides continuty to all residents. Browns Field House has always gained its 3 stars ever since the ratings began years ago, this demonstrates just what a mallouvous, excellent home Browns Field House is.

Browns Field House is an excellent home for the elderly. My Mum moved in there seven months ago due do Dementia, she could no longer care for herself so a care home was the only option. My Mum was a very active and independent lady who always lived life to the full. At Browns field the staff go out of their way to ensure that Mum is occupied and stimulated by helping her enjoy the things she was use to such as shopping, walks and playing table tennis. She even has a volunteer badge with her name on as she quite often helps the with cleaning out the animals and clearing tables etc.The environment is always welcoming and the staff very friendly. Browns field house won the National care award for the best team plus the international care award for Dementia excellence. This is why I am recommeding Browns Field House.

You can tell right away that the staff genuinely care about the residents` needs and wishes. Many of the staff have been there for YEARS and they all love their job. Chickens, rabbits & guinea pigs are not too much trouble! I hope there is a place for me in 25 years when I need a care home myself.

A lovely caring small home where the residents are a source of inspiration for the people who care for them. Truly kind staff who look and really see what is going on. So different to the Hotel style home that Mum moved from where `You only had to ask` being elderly means that people can`t always think what would make life better and then ask.

Browns Field House is a truly remarkable place and it is an honour to write this in support of the incredible job they do, day in, day out however difficult the circumstance or whatever challenges are presented to them. I have been closely involved with Browns Field House since 2003 when my father moved there from sheltered accommodation in West Yorkshire In the summer of 2004 he quietly died aged 92, with members of staff and his family by his side. In August 2005, my mother-in-law moved to Browns Field from North Wales following a broken hip and general deterioration. She spent her last two and a half years at Browns Field House, dying suddenly on January 2nd 2008 aged 97. On a beautiful spring morning, her heart suddenly gave up and she very peacefully died. In January 2009, my maiden aunt moved to Browns field from York following a severe deterioration in her health. Since arriving at Browns field her general health has improved but mentally she, at 90 years old, is gradually growing weaker. This team of staff at Browns Field show remarkable qualities 1.Stability; virtually all the staff caring for my aunt are the same as cared for my father. There are always care jobs advertised in the local paper, but this group stay loyal to Browns Field. This shows that they feel highly valued individually and supported as a group. 2.Respect for each and every individual resident. Not once have I or my family seen a resident treated or spoken to disrespectfully or inappropriately. Infinite patience, kindness and gentleness are the norm, it is the ethos of the place which everyone respects and follows. 3.Individual personalities and skills of staff are recognised and used to residents benefit. My three elderly relations have all been quite different in their personalities and needs. These have been recognised and where a staff member resonates with an individual, then their skills are used to the maximum. With this strategy every one wins, the resident and the staff member whose skills are recognised and extended, even advising other members of staff on the best approach to bring happiness and enjoyment in lifes small pleasures for the individual resident. 4.New initiatives (often suggested by the staff) are discussed and, if feasible, put into place to enhance the life experience of individuals. Recently they have introduced some animals, two rabbits, two guinea pigs and two hens. When my aunt was inconsolable one evening, one member of staff went and fetched a guinea pig, wrapped it in a towel and let her stoke the animal. Within 10 minutes, she was calmer and much less distressed, how much better is this than further medication? There is also a sweetie shop, a reminiscence area (with donations from residents), a painting area (as one resident was an artist and wished to continue her hobby), a gardening club and a weekly church service. There are regular trips out, for example to the pub, the shops, local gardens, the seaside and other places of known interest or at the suggestion of individual residents. 5. The staffs work as a whole team. All are included, not just the care staff, but the cleaner, the chef and the lady who does the laundry, in fact everyone, are all included in the team. 6. Individual options for residents are encouraged and choices are respected. This includes what they eat, where they eat, whether they wish to go out, either as an individual or in a small group, whether or not they wish to join in on activities or be quietly by themselves. If at all possible they help individuals do things they want. For example my mother in law (aged 95) wanted to go swimming and two members of staff made the arrangements and took her to the local baths! 7. Everyday there is at least one joint activity to join in with. These are often initiated by the staff and range from sing songs, quizzes, games, celebrations etc. Whilst residents are encouraged to join in, it is up to each individual to decide for themselves and this choice is respected. 8. High standards of hygiene and personnel care are always maintained for the comfort, self respect and well being of each and every resident. No task is too small or insignificant and privacy is respected as a matter of course. 9. Relatives and friends are always welcomed with a warm smile and greeting. As a relative, I am welcomed what ever time of day or night it is. They know me and I know them, they are all easy to talk to, generous spirited and kindness itself, particularly at distressing times (for example when my father was dying, they made sure that we, as his family, were looked after and cared for as well as my father). 10. There is often a sense of fun and laughter around. This is never at anyones expense but rather from a sense of enjoying the moment and taking pleasure in the every day. 11. The team respects and values the leadership given by Marsha and Sally (the manager and deputy manager).

Recommendation by daughter of 96 year old resident since 2005. Brown Field House staff are wonderful! I am constantly impressed by the level of care my mother receives, as she gradually needs more and more help. -The warmth, care and attitudes of the staff. Always positive and interested -Empowered staff, excellent management, teamwork and communications I can talk to anyone in the team they always know what`s going on with my mother -Brilliant atmosphere, relaxed, homely, friendly, everyone at ease, although I am also aware of the amount of work that goes on in the background to achieve that relaxed efficiency -Superb management and leadership from the top, resulting in a committed, very stable team. The continuity of staffing is very important for my mother and indeed for the family as visitors -Flexibility re my mother`s changing needs and changes to her routine by my visitis -Relationships with the family, I am always kept informed of any developments I need to know about and made welcome when I visit -The physical environment is very comfortable, always clean and pleasant to be in -A very lively place, big efforts by the staff to arrange outings, entertainment, activities, interest in the daily life. Plus constant improvements to make the place more enjoyable for the residents, eg lots of pets in the garden, rabbits, birds, gerbils, summerhouse. Before choosing Brown Fields House we telephone researched 33 homes in the Cambridgeshire area and visited 11. From the outset we had total confidence in BFH. Our trust has been well founded. As a family we know my mum is getting the best possible care and she herself echoes that on every visit - she constantly praises the home, which is wonderful for us to hear.
