Harleston House is a large and beautiful house, which was built in Lowestoft at the beginning of the 19th century. It is a listed building and has been the home of many of the town's most prominent people, including its first Mayor. It has been used as a school and, during the Second World War was used by the Admiralty as a hospital and as a billet for the Wrens. There is a very attractive public garden at the end of the road and the beach, promenade and pier are all within walking distance of the home.
The home has had two extensions added since it became a care home for older people in 1948. It currently provides accommodation and care for 39 residents, all in private rooms with en-suite. Some of the rooms are large enough to accommodate a married couple. Each room is fully carpeted and furnished and equipped with a call bell system, TV point, easily accessible light switches and plug sockets. All en-suites have a wash hand basin with a mirror, shaving light and shaving socket and a walk in wet room. Residents are encouraged to bring in personal items such as pictures, ornaments and small items of furniture where space allows.
There are three comfortable sitting rooms, two of which are set aside for those who wish to watch television. The home's garden has a summer house and plenty of places to sit and relax. The home also has a small shop and a seperate room for visitors.
A qualified and experienced senior staff team provide 24 hour care cover for the home, and they are ably supported by trained Care Assistants, catering and domestic staff. Your visitors are welcome at any time at Harleston House, just as they would be in your own home. You are welcome to make use of the public rooms, or your own room if you prefer. Please do ask for an information booklet from the Home or our Head Office.
