Mellish House is located in the peaceful village of Great Cornard, Sudbury, a purpose-built home providing residential care for up to 48 elderly people living with a form of dementia.

Mellish House has been designed to meet the University of Stirling’s standards for dementia care, which are widely acknowledged as providing the best living environment for people living with dementia. The Stirling approach ensures that residents are able to move freely around the home, with bedrooms and communal areas appropriately laid out and clearly signposted to minimise confusion or disorientation. However, staff never lose sight of the fact that, first and foremost, Mellish House is home to our residents. Very pleased with the home generally. The staff are very kind and good. Clean considering in that division they try very hard to maintain a clean home. Residents always look well dressed, clean and well looked after. I would recommend this home.

My father was taken to Mellish under difficult circumstances, and the care he has received has made this transition so much easier. My dad needs to be in a secure home, and I am happy that even though I have a bit of a journey, I know that he is in the right place for him. Our friends have been to see him and they think it is the nicest care home they have ever been to.

My mum suffers from a mental health disorder and has spent much of her life in care homes. Mellish House is by far the friendliest, safest home. The staff take very good care of her and she thrives here. The staff who arrange activities always keep her engaged and she has developed strong bonds with many of the kind and patient staff.

When I came to knowing my husband was no longer in a fit mental and physical state for me to look after him I tried one care home which was unable to manage him, since I moved my husband to Mellish House he has been just if not more difficult to look after. The staff at Mellish House have been so understanding to his needs and wants. It is now a pleasure to come and see him. Which I equally do.

Review of Mellish House on Tuesday 30 April 2013 by Elizabeth J (Wife of resident)

The caring staff are excellent, patient, often in difficult circumstances, polite, kind and friendly. I feel I have made some good friends at Mellish House in the year and five months that my husband has been a resident there. Frequent activities and interesting diversions for the residents, the two activities ladies are excellent. They really enjoy what they do for residents and are most ingenious and go to a lot of trouble. The cleaners are conscientious and the handyman is prompt and cooperative if a job does need doing. A good family atmosphere.

Review of Mellish House on Friday 26 April 2013 by Robin C (Son of resident)

It is clean and pleasant the staff are very friendly, caring and helpful at all times.
