Review of Parkland House

'Our father lived at Parkland for 11 months until he died there in July. He suffered from relatively moderate dementia which meant he needed conversation and stimulation, but he also required understanding when he was confused. The staff were wonderful with him in whatever state of mind he was in. Dignity, humour, kindness, friendliness, patience, attention: we could have asked no more. When Dad was to leave hospital in a frail condition recently, Parkland stepped in to receive him back, despite the extra workload this required. I sat in Parkland's garden recently, with staff and residents playing boules behind me and a resident leading a clutch of other ladies in a singalong in front of me- a very happy place!'

Review of Parkland House

My Mum was in Parkland House from April 2010 until she died on 3rd March 2014 at nearly 99 and, in all that time, she received excellent care and kindness from the staff. It was a wrench for her to go into a Home as she was very independent but she became very content at Parkland and often commented that “I have nothing to do, its all done for me!” She had a nice ground floor room overlooking the garden which we were able to take her into and round when we visited and she enjoyed looking at all the plants. She enjoyed the food and appreciated what the staff did for her. In the last few weeks of her life when she became very ill the care and attention from the staff was especially outstanding. She was given a hospital bed and a special mattress and the Doctor called regularly. On the day Mum died one Carer stayed with her for a few hours and read to her until we were able to get there. And their kindness to us in those last few hours as we sat with Mum was also excellent. We chose Parkland on the recommendation of friends and have absolutely no hesitation in recommending the Home to others.

Review of Parkland House

My father had dementia and was difficult to care for but he was looked after with dignity. His skin condition improved whilst he was a resident. It was decided to leave dad until one of the last to get washed and dressed in the mornings as this seemed to suit him better. We found the staff helpful, caring and friendly. Bells were answered promptly. When dad was dying he was given wonderful care as was the family which helped us all at that very sad time. Nothing was too much trouble. Residents seemed very happy.

Review of Parkland House

The care, consideration & kindness shown to my mum & other residents by ALL the staff is outstanding. Their awareness & sensitivity to the resident's needs is obvious, often pre-empting potential distress. They manage mum's reluctance to accept help or sit at a table to eat well so that her health & care is not compromised. This level of care, together with the safe, secure 'home from home' environment, has given our family freedom to enjoy more quality time with mum.

Review of Parkland House

My mother was a resident at Parkland House for 3 months. She came out of hospital after six weeks, still very unwell but the staff at Parkland quickly made a huge improvement to her health and appearance. They were patient with her lack of appetite and did all they could to encourage her. During her final two weeks when she became bedridden and began to close down (vascular dementia), the care she received was outstanding, both in terns of provision of comfort and personal attention.

Review of Parkland House

My Grandma moved to Parklands from Cardiff to be near me. She settled in well, had a large room looking over the garden and enjoyed her time there. One bonus here is that Parkland House has 3 Activity Ladies to entertain the residents - various visits by musicians/singers/animal charities and are also taken out by minibus or car (if they are mobile) for trips in the local area - We enjoyed our trips out on the minibus. The carers are all doing a wonderful job - treating the residents with respect, dignity and patience or just spending time with the residents. The care in the last weeks of my Grandma's life was excellent - she was given a special mattress and hospital bed and attended to around the clock. Any concerns and the GP or District Nurse were always called out. I was recommended Parklands and I have no hesitation in doing the same.

Review of Parkland House

I am very pleased my dad 93 years old is being looked after at Parkland House, Barley Lane Exeter. Everyone I have seen has done their job excellently. I like the way they take time to sit down and talk to residents whenever they can. My dad was in another home he was not happy and was very confused. Since he has been here he's got back his sense of humour and is now himself, Iv'e got back my dad.

Review of Parkland House

My mother was at Parklands for 4 1/2 months May-October 2012. She was very happy and comfortable there and really well cared for in her last days. Having met many of the staff I found them unfailingly kind and helpful. I know mum made friends with lots of them as well as some of the residents. I am glad we found such a good home for her.
