The Review Score of 7.960 for Kingland House Nursing and Residential Home is based on 2 Reviews/Recommendations in the last 2 years.

  • The Review Score (maximum of 10) is made up of a Quality Score (maximum of 5) and Quantity Score (maximum of 5):

    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. (Please note that the ratings of Very Poor and Poor have only been available since the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015.)

      The Quality Score (average rating) of 4.667 for Kingland House Nursing and Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (16 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 24 Ratings = 4.667

      • Any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this care provider to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

      • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 3.293 for Kingland House Nursing and Residential Home is calculated as follows:

      1. 2 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 2 Positive Reviews = 0.200

      3. (2 Positive Reviews ÷ 43 Registered Beds) x 2 = 0.093

My cousin, who was totally immobile, was provided with a light airy room with pleasant outdoor views. All staff including those in reception knew her name and her likes and dislikes. She was treated with great respect and every attempt was made to ensure that she was comfortable. The food was very well presented with the additional provision of mid-morning and afternoon snacks, and supper.
Although my cousin was not robust enough to visit the communal rooms every effort was made to ensure that she had an opportunity to chat. A variety of staff took time to visit her room to engage her in general conversation. The nursing was excellent and there was always a genuine concern for her comfort and well-being. At key moments in her stay I was always well briefed on the situation. In conclusion I was always confident that my cousin was receiving the best of care and attention and I have nothing but praise for the home.

It was trepidation that we arranged for my father to go into Kingland. We had read the QCC report for 2014 but after viewing the home and talking to the manageress, we decided to go ahead. It took some time before my father settled but once he adjusted to the routine, he came to regard Kingland as home and was very happy there. On his 101th birthday, a tea party was organised for all the residents and family. A singer came to entertain the gathering and a very nice birthday cake was produced.
The staff at the home were always cheerful and willing to go the extra mile. They took great care of him and his health, which had not been so good when he entered the home, improved no end. In fact, we said he'd never looked better. We feel that he enjoyed the last few months of his life as much as was possible and so we would have no hesitation in recommending the home.
