Royal Court, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

Royal Court provides all residents with their own individual purpose built flat, each of which has a large living room, kitchenette, bedroom, large en-suite bathroom and its own front door and entrance hall. (Flats can be provided either furnished or un-furnished). Some flats have two bedrooms so are suitable for couples or friends wishing to live together.

Staff provide three home-prepared meals a day and also the individual kitchenette in each flat mean that residents can if they wish, prepare snacks etc at any time.

Royal Court is also different not just because of the excellent quality of care provided but because the care team constantly focuses on ensuring that living at Royal Court is fun, fulfilling and that each resident feels fully supported but at the same time is able to be as independent as they wish. This is achieved by having a care team of exceptional people who constantly tailor the care they provide to every resident's individual needs and wishes.

Royal Court offers a full Day Care service run by Amy Harris and her colleagues. Starting at 9am they offer a wide range of activities carefully tailored to each person's preferences, a home cooked hot lunch and refreshments and snacks throughout the day.

This Review Score of 9.736 is made up of a Quality Score of 4.861 Points (maximum of 5) relating to the rating and a Quantity Score of 4.875 Points (maximum of 5) relating to the number of positive Reviews/Recommendations.

  • The maximum Review Score for a care home / service is 10 and it is based on the published (including Restricted Publication) Reviews in the last 2 years. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

The Review Score of 9.736 for Royal Court is based on 21 Reviews/Recommendations in the last 2 years.

  • The Review Score (maximum of 10) is made up of a Quality Score (maximum of 5) and Quantity Score (maximum of 5):

    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. (Please note that the ratings of Very Poor and Poor have only been available since the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015.)

      The Quality Score (average rating) of 4.861 for Royal Court is calculated as follows: ( (218 Excellents x 5) + (31 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 251 Ratings = 4.861

    • Quantity Score: 5 Points are available for the number of 'Positive Reviews' for a care home / service. A Positive Review is defined as:

      • Any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this care provider to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

      • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 4.875 for Royal Court is calculated as follows:

      1. 21 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 21 Positive Reviews = 2.100 (maximum score = 1)

      3. (21 Positive Reviews ÷ 48 Registered Beds) x 2 = 0.875

  • The Review Score is based on user Recommendations/Reviews submitted in the last 2 years. The maximum Review Score is 10. There are 5 Points available for the average of all ratings on users Recommendations/Reviews (Excellent 5, Good 4, Satisfactory 3, Poor 2, Very Poor 1). There are 5 Points available for the total number of positive Recommendations/Reviews submitted in relation to the number of beds at the Care Home.

Enjoyed my stay for three weeks at Royal Court. Very varied activity programme. Very good indeed. Carers are very good, very kind to all residents, very noticeable. The flat is very nice but didn't need to spend much time in there because of the full programme being delivered in the lounge. Food is really good too.

Since my mother has been at Royal Court in Cheltenham she has received the best care from all the staff both male and female alike. She is in a very clean & caring home where her best interests and safety are the priority. She is treated with respect and is well looked after, especially her personal care. She is happy and now has a good quality of life. The staff also have a great common sense approach to things which is wonderful. Also staff are well trained.

We consider ourselves fortunate to have found Royal Court when my mother first needed residential care some 18 months ago. Having visited a number of local homes this was far better than any other and excellent value for money. Unlike most homes each flat has two rooms a kitchenette and a wet room. The staff too are caring, helpful and efficient

I work in the Care Industry myself as a Reablement Worker, so I have seen a lot of Care Homes and I already knew about Royal Court through my work and knew when my Father needed Care that we would choose Royal Court. The staff and the quality of care are fantastic. The best thing about Royal court is the accommodation, my Dad has his own apartment and he feels much more independent. He enjoys having people round, and we enjoy visiting!

After several visits to different care home in the area this one was the best for my needs. I use the day care facility which meets both my requirements and my wife as it gives her a break as well. The staff are very welcoming and supportive which makes it a pleasure to be here. I may use some more of the provision that is on offer in the future e.g. staying a couple of nights or more. One of the advantages is that the care provision is so flexible.

My mother suffered from dementia and was very poorly. The previous home could not manage her. Royal Court welcomed her despite her difficulties. On her recent discharge from hospital she said she was glad she was home, which speaks volumes. All the staff at Royal Court treated her with kindness and dignity.

Very impressed with the staff attitude. Friendly, helpful and nothing is too much trouble for both residents and relatives. The home is clean and well organised and a great deal of attention seems to be paid to the individual's health & safety.
They even made my mother a birthday cake today.
Accommodation is light, spacious and airy, much better than many other homes we looked at.

Only too pleased to recommend Royal Court to anybody.

My mum has not been a resident here very long but the standard of care has been faultless and have found all staff polite and give mum her dignity at all times. The flats are kept very clean. The family have been welcomed into the home. You can walk round the home and one apparent thing that stands out is how manager, staff and residents are all happy within the home and have respect for each other.
