Ferfoot Care Home is located in an attractive residential area on the eastern fringes of Chippenham, shortly after the major junction where the A420 crosses over the A350 on Hardenhuish Lane. Ferfoot is registered with the commission for social care inspection to provide residential care to elderly people suffering with dementia's. The Home Manager, Tina Novik has been the manager of Ferfoot for many years and has gained considerable experience in expertise in supporting people with dementias, towards achieving the best possible quality of life within a safe and stable environment. General Description Ferfoot is a purpose-built dementia care home comprising two self-contained units, enjoying an enviable position down a quiet, leafy lane within the historic town of Chippenham, Wiltshire. The well-presented approach to Ferfoot creates an especially welcoming impression, while the house itself offers striking views over the town to the rolling countryside beyond. Shops and other key facilities are within easy reach of the home. The main building dates from 1902, and was originally a typical turn-of-the-19th-century family home in Wiltshire Stone. The house has benefited from several purpose-built extensions, which have all been constructed sympathetically and in full keeping with the original building. Ferfoot is laid out over two storeys, and is tastefully decorated, providing a high standard of accommodation throughout. Chippenham is a delightful market town, just a few minutes from the M4 motorway, offering easy access from the Thames Valley to the east, and Bath and Bristol to the west. Professional Care At Ferfoot, we maintain a culture of total quality, and believe that the training and support of all staff plays a major role in ensuring high standards are maintained. Under the management of Tina Novik, the staff at Ferfoot focus on providing a positive person-centered approach towards residents’ care, supporting each individual resident according to their precise needs. Recognising that dementia brings its own unique challenges, the overriding aim of the staff is to provide a homely, welcoming and friendly environment in which residents can maintain an optimum quality of life, regardless of how dependent they become. A high staff/resident ratio is designed to ensure that residents’ individual needs can be fully met, and all our nurses and general staff are highly trained in their respective fields. All staff have either achieved NVQ2 or NVQ3 standard in residential care skills, or are working towards these qualifications. Tailored care plans are drawn up on an individual basis with residents in conjunction with their relatives to ensure that care delivery is discreet and appropriate, enabling residents to enjoy the highest quality of life while retaining their privacy, independence and dignity. These plans are regularly reviewed so that they can be adjusted as a person’s needs change, ensuring appropriate care delivery at all times. There is also a relative-support group, which we urge family members to use, as we recognise the devastating effect that dementia can have on the whole family. Residents who are ill or requiring terminal care will continue to be cared for at Ferfoot, unless they are in need of acute medical treatment. Social Environment At Ferfoot, the emphasis is firmly on creating an environment that is a true home from home. We especially encourage residents to personalise their rooms to create a homely and relaxing atmosphere in which they feel completely comfortable. The home boasts a wide variety of general rooms to enable residents to maintain their own space while enjoying a social atmosphere. There are four open-plan dining rooms, with a total of five sitting rooms and a conservatory for residents to relax in all day long. An attractive enclosed and level mature garden, with small pond, provides a wonderfully uplifting environment for residents to enjoy at all times of the year. Accommodation The private accommodation at Ferfoot consists of 38 en-suite private rooms, plus a total of 47 single bedrooms with personal washing facilities. There are also three shared bedrooms available for couples. There is a personal call system throughout, and all bedrooms on the first floor are accessible via a passenger lift. Lifestyle Ferfoot is registered with the Commission for Social Care and Inspection (CSCI), and Caring Homes aims to provide the highest standards of residential care right across its homes portfolio. All residents’ meals are freshly prepared on the premises by our own qualified chefs, and we are happy to cater for special diets and even individual preferences. If desired, residents can also take advantage of the hot and cold drinks (along with cakes and biscuits) that are available throughout the day. The staff are keen to support and provide guidance to residents in pursuing their interests and hobbies at Ferfoot. We employ a full-time activities co-ordinator, and take great pride in our activity programmes, which are designed around individual abilities to promote a sense of well-being and achievement in each resident. There is also a very active social programme, enabling residents to meet up regularly with existing friends in the home or to make new ones. We offer regular outings, along with regular activities and concerts in the care home. Residents are also encouraged to go out as long as they are able to, and local community groups are encouraged to be involved with the home. Services As a dedicated dementia care home, Ferfoot aims to offer a full complement of appropriate facilities that will make residents’ lives as pleasant and fulfilling as possible. We have our own on-site hairdressing salon, and there is also a training room and sensory care room for the benefit of residents. A fully equipped on-site laundry is provided as an inclusive part of the care-home fee, while a chiropodist visits monthly. Religion/Spiritual Life Every individual has spiritual needs; for some people, this can take the form of religious worship, but for others it can be a special place or something with a special meaning. At Ferfoot, we acknowledge every individual’s personal and cultural beliefs and values, and endeavour to uphold them to the full. Regular church services are held in the care home. Visitors At Ferfoot, we are keen to welcome visitors, including children, and they are encouraged to visit whenever they wish – subject to residents’ needs and bedtimes. Hot and cold drinks are readily available for visitors, and visits can take place in any of the communal lounges or in the privacy of residents’ rooms if preferred. Short Stay/Respite Breaks Subject to availability, we welcome short stay residents who wish to either simply enjoy a break with us, require a period of convalescence, or who wish to sample Hulcott lifestyle with the future in mind. |
