Chesterwood is situated in a leafy suburb of Birmingham named Kings Heath, and is convenient for Kings Heath High Street and Haunch Lane shops. Both areas offer a good selection of restaurants, shops and entertainment. The area the home is located in is served by an excellent bus service.

Accommodation at Chesterwood is provided in 6 bedrooms with use of a separate shower room and bathroom. This detached property also has an attractive, spacious lounge/dining room, conservatory, kitchen and office. Residents can relax and enjoy the large garden (with ramp access) and summerhouse. The home has the use of a family car. Chesterwood has a separate laundry area with hand washing facilities.

Care at Chesterwood is offered to adults of varying age with an acquired brain injury in a small friendly environment. There are ground floor rooms available for clients with impaired mobility.

Chesterwood co-ordinate many activities and these include : bingo, aqua aerobics, the Billesley Tennis Centre, Cocksmoor Wood Leisure centre, Acocks Green Bowling alley, Courses on Independent Living Skills and Drama at Bournville College, Pottery, Textiles, Drama at the Midlands Art Centre. Maths, English and I.T at Mathew Boulton College and Employment Preparation Training (to enhance skills for entering employment). Within the City of Birmingham, major entertainment events take place at the Symphony Hall, NIA and NEC. The city also has three main theatres, the Alexander Theatre, The Birmingham Hippodrome and the Birmingham Repertory Theatre as well as the Midlands Arts Centre. Clients at Chesterwood regularly attend the 'Head Injuries Club' at Ladywood Arts Centre.

All staff receive extensive internal training supplemented by relevant external courses. Staff receive in-depth training and on-going support on low arousal techniques, which are the core of tracscare care philosophy. Staffing at Chesterwood operates with an average of 3 staff on duty during the day and both sleep night and wake night staff at night. The staffing team is dedicated, hard working and committed to providing a high level of care.

Chesterwood provide a consistent high level of care on an individual basis. Clients are encouraged to live a fulfilled life and are supported when necessary to achieve this. The client's family are invited to participate in and oversee the care plans on offer, also the family / friends are encouraged to give constructive feedback regarding existing plans. The clients are involved in the decision making within the home, be it decoration, menu planning, planning activities, interviewing new staff.

All clients have access to Tracscare Clinical Support Nurse plus consultant input in the areas of psychiatry and psychology, on an individual needs basis. Speech Therapy and Drama Therapy can also be arranged. Oak Tree Lane is accessed for physiotherapy and hearing tests. Chesterwood is registered for 6 adults with Learning Difficulty and Physical Handicap.
