The Woodlands Care Home provides specialist residential service for adult men-only, offering learning disability residential care for 6 men. Service users typically have a learning disability along with complex co-morbid conditions such as personality disorder and mental health problems, and they may also have a forensic past.
The service at The Woodlands Learning Disability Care Home is designed for those individuals who require a high level of support and supervision in a community setting, often as part of a care pathway when stepping down from secure unit or hospital care. Alternatively, adults living within the Woodlands care home may not be able to be adequately provided in a supported living service due to the complexity of their problems, or their challenging behaviours.
The aim of the service is to prepare individuals for living more independently through a programme of active community engagement, developing meaningful social networks, managing risk and developing robust coping strategies.
The care unit is staffed 24 hours a day by a dedicated team of support workers. However, there is no nursing service on site but the Woodlands Care Home forms a key part of the learning disability care pathway with The Woodhouse Hospital service at Cheadle which is just 20 minutes away.
The care home is registered with the Care Quality Commission and able to accept learning disabled adult men who have been detained under the Mental Health Act (1983).
