The Review Score of 8.753 for Gildawood Court Care Home is based on 16 Reviews/Recommendations in the last 2 years.

  • The Review Score (maximum of 10) is made up of a Quality Score (maximum of 5) and Quantity Score (maximum of 5):

    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. (Please note that the ratings of Very Poor and Poor have only been available since the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015.)

      • Any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this care provider to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

      • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 4.5 for Gildawood Court Care Home is calculated as follows:

      1. 15 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 15 Positive Reviews = 1.500 (maximum score = 1)

      3. (15 Positive Reviews ÷ 60 Registered Beds) x 2 = 0.500

  • The Review Score is based on user Recommendations/Reviews submitted in the last 2 years. The maximum Review Score is 10. There are 5 Points available for the average of all ratings on users Recommendations/Reviews (Excellent 5, Good 4, Satisfactory 3, Poor 2, Very Poor 1). Thank you for taking the time to review Gildawood Care Home, we really appreciate your feedback. At Gildawood we pride ourselves in providing high quality care and environments and have a strict cleaning schedule in place to ensure odours are kept minimal. We always welcome the opportunity to review and improve upon what we offer and hope you will share your thoughts with us in the home.

My dad has been in care at Gildawood since the 29th of May and he has been very well looked after. His room is very spacious, clean and the food is good. The staff all appear very caring towards my dad and all others in their care. They always seem courteous to all of their needs. My dad appears contented in the care at Gildawood.

There is always an odour of incontinence. No simple prompts or reminders of day/date or time for the residents. Always feels like a sad and lonely place. On my last visit arrived to find front door unlocked. Entered the building and it took quite a while to find a member of staff to inform them that the front door was open. Staff expressed some concern and commented that it had happened before. I was very concerned and prompted staff that they should check that no residents had left the building.

We really appreciate your feedback. At Gildawood we pride ourselves in providing high quality care and environments, and have a large team regularly cleaning all areas, accidents are immediately cleared up but carpets have also recently been changed. Safety is of very high importance at Gildawood, there are notices to ensure staff and visitors make sure the front is door is securely closed before they walk away. We welcome the opportunity to improve, and hope you will continue to share your thoughts with us in the home in future.

I find the carers at Gildawood overall to be very caring with residents. I have a partner/resident who is extremely challenging and they do their very best to manage his care with dignity. They telephone if there is a problem so communication is excellent. There were early problems mainly because of his behaviour and problems with medication, hopefully these are being resolved. I would like to see more activities for the residents.

Thank you very much for your review, we really appreciate your feedback. At Gildawood we pride ourselves on providing high quality care and support. The accurate monitoring and administration of medication is a high priority at Gildawood, and we work in very close partnership with our residents and their GPs to ensure that requirements are met.
We believe it’s important to provide regular activities and tailor these for each individual resident. To facilitate a wide range of activities we have two full-time activity co-ordinators running group and individual activities seven days a week. We always welcome the opportunity to review and improve upon what we offer and hope you will share your thoughts with us in the home.

Gildawood is a superb care home specifically for dementia. The en-suite rooms are light, airy and spacious and cleaned thoroughly the home is modern and well decorated with pleasant grounds and a happy atmosphere. Just occasionally there can be an unpleasant odour. The management and staff are extremely helpful, obviously dedicated to their jobs as there is a low turnover of staff and I've never seen agency staff. They feel like a big happy family in a homely environment. In general I feel the residents are treated with respect and care, residents look clean and well dressed, there is a hairdressers on site the staff do an amazing job at meeting their needs. I would definitely recommend Gildawood

The care home is good for it's purpose, but as my husband has dementia they can only do their best. I wish he didn't have to be in there but unfortunately he has to be. I know everyone is good and kind, it doesn't matter where he is, things won't be good.

Our experience of Gildawood is very good, the staff are very caring and kind, our mother is treated with the utmost respect by everyone concerned. She is kept clean personally, also her room is very tidy, we are kept informed on a regular basis as to any changes in her health and welfare. We visit 3 times a week so are on hand if needed. We have no regrets on the decision we made to bring her here. That's our recommendation.

Mum moved in March and was very unsure as to whether she wanted to be here, but she has settled in very well and we are very pleased with the way she has been cared for, this has given us peace of mind and we are very grateful for this, as we had our reservations at first. Mum always looks well care for and has gained weight since being here so we know she is eating well. It has been a very difficult 12 months for us but we are very satisfied with our choice of home for our Mum

Overall, my experience visiting Gildawood is very good, but I do feel there are not enough staff to cope with the demands of residents. The Staff are excellent and do not receive enough recognition for the difficult job they do. Staff and Residents would benefit tremendously for an increase in members of staff.

My stepmother moved to Guisborough Manor when it opened, and stayed there happily until her death in April 2012. The staff were all caring and treated her with dignity and respect. She chose to remain there for her last days rather than be admitted to hospital. She was never left alone during her last days, both day and night. Family members were looked after and given emotional support, even after she passed away. The staff make the care home a home from home and we would recommend it for anone requiring care.

Care given to my husband and I at Gildawood is exemplary. At all stages of this horrible illness I have been kept informed. The purpose built home suits the needs of the residents ie. being able to walk around without getting lost. Menus always seem to be nutritious and varied. As in any organisation some staff/carers are more dedicated to their jobs than others, but most of the staff here are totally committed to the work they do and always "go the extra mile".
Since completing this questionnaire my husband has passed away. The care received to my family and I in his final hours was exemplary.

My husband spent almost 2 months in Gildawood, and was treated with great care and utmost dignity and respect. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. John was always frightened because of his Alzheimer/dementia, but while he was in Gildawood, he seemed to lose a lot of his fear. Prior to being in for respite and care, John had been going to daycare, where he loved going, up to December 2014 when he began to be really ill. Kerry and Pam treated him really well. He was treated with dignity at all times, which for a very private man was exemplary. I only point them in particular because I remember their names, but EVERYONE was terrific. A special care home where I would recommend to anyone.

No problems; very caring, patient staff handling my father in his extreme, demanding state of dementia. Very grateful. Still awaiting confirmation of a promised CHC assessment (the initial, "screening" - type assessment done by care homes), otherwise no problems.

Open visiting so nothing to hide, creating a trust that residents are being treated correctly. No agency staff and long service from many staff so comfortable working environment. Comfortable and happy feeling in the home and residents treated with respect and compassion. Dealings with staff on all levels very good and always helpful. Very clean, pleasant smell - can't fault any aspect of cleanliness and personal hygiene. Good catering facilities and home cooked food. Excellent value for money.
