The Review Score of 8.516 for Abraham House is based on 5 Reviews/Recommendations in the last 2 years.

  • The Review Score (maximum of 10) is made up of a Quality Score (maximum of 5) and Quantity Score (maximum of 5):

    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. (Please note that the ratings of Very Poor and Poor have only been available since the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015.)

      The Quality Score (average rating) of 4.683 for Abraham House is calculated as follows: ( (41 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 4.683

    • Quantity Score: 5 Points are available for the number of 'Positive Reviews' for a care home / service. A Positive Review is defined as:

      • Any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this care provider to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

      • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 3.833 for Abraham House is calculated as follows:

      1. 5 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 5 Positive Reviews = 0.500

      3. (5 Positive Reviews ÷ 30 Registered Beds) x 2 = 0.333

  • The Review Score is based on user Recommendations/Reviews submitted in the last 2 years. The maximum Review Score is 10. There are 5 Points available for the average of all ratings on users Recommendations/Reviews (Excellent 5, Good 4, Satisfactory 3, Poor 2, Very Poor 1). My dad has Vascular Dementia that causes behaviour problems, anger, sadness, paranoia etc. We tried to place him in homes in and around Preston but with no luck. Then the manager of Abraham House came along and gave my dad a place in her home. He started to settle down well because he knew they really cared about him. The care he was given was wonderful. Then he had a fall and is now back in hospital and cannot go back to Abraham house. It's sad to see him now as he's had to leave the people he come to trust and care for him. You can do no better than this home, it's the best home for care and love in Preston. Thank you all xxxx

My parent has been at home for the past six years at Abraham House. It was chosen for the warmth of welcome and safe environment that it exhibits. The Nurses have always been open to listen and act quickly on any opinions and ideas we have expressed to improve the quality of my father's life. We are assured by the 24hour security and care given at Abraham House.
We are encouraged and assisted to maintain as much independence for my father as possible with dignity.
All staff without exception reflect loving kindness to their patients in trying difficult circumstances, which can be understood by the nature of the illnesses. The Nurses never forgetting the Loving Kindness which is of immeasurable value of which there is an abundance at Abraham House. I would like to commend the nurses.

As again all who are involved in my father's care...Thank you.

Thank you for your review. We really appreciate you taking the time to let everyone know how you feel.

My mother entered the above care home in May this year. I have found nothing but care and compassion and nothing is too much trouble. The staff are always on hand to discuss my mum and her needs. They welcome you at any time (except meal times). It has taken my mum a while to settle in but they have been patient and have encouraged her to talk about herself and her needs.

M Hanson, Director at Abraham House responded to this review on 17 Jul 2015:

Thank you for your kind comments - we work hard to do our best, so it is really nice to read your review.

Until earlier this year we welcomed visitors at mealtimes but we now ask visitors to try to avoid mealtimes when possible. This is known as ‘Protected Mealtimes’ and there is a great deal of evidence to show that protected mealtimes provide lots of benefits, for example people eat better and recover from illness more quickly.

The concept of protected mealtimes is supported by many organisations including the British Dietetic Association; The Patient’s Association; The Royal College of Nursing and the Royal College of Physicians.

During protected mealtimes all interruptions are kept to a minimum, which contributes to a relaxed and calm atmosphere that gives residents time to enjoy and digest their food without distraction, whilst receiving whatever assistance they need to eat and drink.

I hope this helps to explain why we prefer visitors to avoid mealtimes.

Once again thank you for your kind words.

My Mum has been in Abraham House for just over 3 years, as I live in London it is extra important to me to know she is safe and cared for as I can only visit monthly. Mum is happy, well fed and content at Abraham House, whenever I visit she looks so well and I am able to call her twice a week and have a chat. The staff constantly keep in touch with me about her health and often send photographs of her enjoying the visits from singers to owl handlers. I can't thank the staff enough.
