The Review Score of 9.851 for King Edward Care for the Elderly is based on 13 Reviews/Recommendations in the last 2 years.

  • The Review Score (maximum of 10) is made up of a Quality Score (maximum of 5) and Quantity Score (maximum of 5):

    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. (Please note that the ratings of Very Poor and Poor have only been available since the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015.)

      The Quality Score (average rating) of 4.851 for King Edward Care for the Elderly is calculated as follows: ( (128 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 148 Ratings = 4.851

      • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 5 for King Edward Care for the Elderly is calculated as follows:

      1. 12 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 12 Positive Reviews = 1.200 (maximum score = 1)

      3. (12 Positive Reviews ÷ 11 Registered Beds) x 2 = 2.182 (maximum score = 1)

  • The Review Score is based on user Recommendations/Reviews submitted in the last 2 years. The maximum Review Score is 10. Mum is well cared for and kept involved. There are many activities that a 101 year old lady can be involved in and I saw her tossing balls into a basket, dancing with a male client and making mothers day cards. She was confused but an ongoing slide show caught her attention and we sat over 1/2 hour looking at the pictures. A very positive visit.

We moved my mother to the King Edward earlier this year from a larger home, because we believed she would benefit from being in a smaller place with a more personal service. We chose the King Edward because it fitted this criteria, whilst also specialising in caring for residents with dementia, which my mother suffers from. It was immediately clear that we had made the right decision. This is an excellent, comfortable and friendly home, and the management and staff are outstanding in their care and treatment of my mother, and the other residents. She settled in very well, and very quickly and I would not hesitate in recommending this care home to anybody looking for a safe and friendly environment for their relative.

Always greeted with a friendly welcome. My mother was not the easiest of residents. She has settled in well now, enjoys her sherry in the evening, great that I am allowed to speak to mum on the phone day or night. Good that they have outsiders providing activities in the home/music/prayer/hairdressers ect. We take mum out regularly and the home always have her ready for us, (she likes to spend 30 minutes in the bathroom) All residents appear happy and mum insists she is back by 4:430 for tea. When I leave my mum always thanks me for coming kisses me and smiles. Excellent care.

This small care home is very clean, bright and well laid out. It has a lovely large lounge, separate dinning room and toileting facilities downstairs. There is a large, modern lift to access the first floor. Mum has a good sized bedroom with lovely d├ęcor and bedding. She also has her own en-suite comprising of toilet and basin. The staff work hard looking after their residents and provide lovely home cooked food which mum very much enjoys. All the staff are cheerful, approachable, good at listening, helpful and very skilled at taking care of the needs of all their residents. Hence, there is always a pleasant relaxed atmosphere when I visit. Consequently mum seems happy and has settled well since arriving five months ago.

During my mums period of permanent residence, commencing October 2012 (until end August 2015), all staff strove to meet mums care and support needs. Dignity, privacy and the right to choose and to make choices as informed as possible were always maintained. Communication barriers in terms of supporting mums lack of hearing, were discussed with myself and between the staff team. Any matters relating to health and well being were always raised with me and fully discussed and solutions shared. The staff team were prepared to listen, in order to understand mums sometimes challenging and changing requirements. The planning of care meticulously reflected all efforts to get to know mum and engage her trust. As a relative I was also supported well. Safeguarding of residents was observable, as was theirs and (mums) cleanliness. End of life care was compassionate and comforting.

Mum was only there 2 months then died suddenly after a stroke. The home only has 11 residents which makes it cosy and more personal. The staff are loving and caring. Mum was cared for very well, the rooms are bright and tasteful. I would recommend King Edward Care for the Elderly. My mum was very happy there.

This is a small home ideally suited to the needs of my brother who can be a tad difficult at times. The staff attitude to my brother achieves the right balance of kindness and firmness. While I only see my brother 4 or 5 times a year (I don't live locally) he is compos mentis and would tell me of any problems.

This is the third care home that I have put my father in and the best! The care is excellent. Although it's not the largest care home my father has been in, it's the best one that has given better personal care. When I visit my father he is always clean and tidy and well fed. The home is just like one big happy family and always there for you.

having previously placed my mother in four similar establishments the Kind Edward home shines well above them all. When visiting mother I always find her clean and comfortable. A great deal of interest is shown to her and all other residents at all times. Any concerns as to her wellbeing is swiftly reported to a doctor. I am more than satisfied with the level of care an general running of the home.
