This Review Score of 9.899 is made up of a Quality Score of 4.899 Points (maximum of 5) relating to the rating and a Quantity Score of 5 Points (maximum of 5) relating to the number of positive Reviews/Recommendations.

  • The maximum Review Score for a care home / service is 10 and it is based on the published (including Restricted Publication) Reviews in the last 2 years. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

The Review Score of 9.899 for The Willows Care Home is based on 19 Reviews/Recommendations in the last 2 years.

  • The Review Score (maximum of 10) is made up of a Quality Score (maximum of 5) and Quantity Score (maximum of 5):

    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. (Please note that the ratings of Very Poor and Poor have only been available since the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015.)

      The Quality Score (average rating) of 4.899 for The Willows Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (206 Excellents x 5) + (21 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 228 Ratings = 4.899

    • Quantity Score: 5 Points are available for the number of 'Positive Reviews' for a care home / service. A Positive Review is defined as:

      • Any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this care provider to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

      • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 5 for The Willows Care Home is calculated as follows:

      1. 19 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 19 Positive Reviews = 1.900 (maximum score = 1)

      3. (19 Positive Reviews ÷ 16 Registered Beds) x 2 = 2.375 (maximum score = 1)

  • The Review Score is based on user Recommendations/Reviews submitted in the last 2 years. The maximum Review Score is 10. There are 5 Points available for the average of all ratings on users Recommendations/Reviews (Excellent 5, Good 4, Satisfactory 3, Poor 2, Very Poor 1). There are 5 Points available for the total number of positive Recommendations/Reviews submitted in relation to the number of beds at the Care Home.

My very dear friend of over 40 years was recently admitted to The Willows in Blackpool. Every care has been taken to ensure that the difficult transition, from home to residential accommodation, has been as smooth as possible. The atmosphere at The Willows is always friendly, calm and welcoming. My friend, who suffers with dementia, describes the staff as "lovely people" and a "lovely family". With only 16 residents the staff have certainly managed to create a warm, family feel. Their care also extends to friends and relatives and I have been kept fully informed and involved every step of the way. Nothing is too much trouble and I have been encouraged to visit or telephone "anytime". The staff not only meet all my friend's daily care needs, but have taken a great deal of trouble to get to know her. A strong emphasis has been placed on her dignity and wellbeing. My heartfelt thanks to everyone at The Willows.

I am very well looked after and appreciate all the help I get. The food is good. I have been taken out today to pick blackberries down the lane, it reminded me of being a boy and going out with my grandma in the forest collecting them.

The Willows is the most excellent care home in the North West. Residents are treated with this wonderful home from home environment and they are all treated as an individual. I could not have placed my mother in a better home. My thanks go to all the staff who look after her so well.

My Dad has Alzheimer’s and lived on his own with his pet Border Collie called Tex. As his condition worsened we knew he would need 24/7 care but also knew he would be devastated if he was separated from his beloved Tex. Fortunately for my Dad and Tex we found the The Willows Care Home (Registered with the Cinnamon Trust). The managers went to exceptional lengths to accommodate my Dad and Tex – Even Tex has his own care plan! My Dad and Tex enjoy the extensive gardens at the home and they are often taken for a walk in the surrounding quiet lanes where my Dad can also enjoy the horses in the nearby fields.
All the staff I have met I have found to be very kind, friendly and show empathy to my Dad’s needs. I was very worried how my Dad would react to the major change of moving into a care home. However, the staff have managed the change exceptionally well and Dad has, with their help, settled well. The home is cosy, very clean, welcoming and the rooms have access to the gardens, which are extensive and well kept. My Dad has a Key Worker and I have found access/communication with the home excellent – you are kept up to date with useful feedback and discussion. Overall I could not be happier.

This was a first time that my mum had to go in a care home, so we were quite worried about how she would adapt. However, the Willows was first class from day 1. Paul & Tracey take personal care to get everything right from the first day. Mum's room was lovely, overlooking the garden and she enjoyed watching the birds. The food was great, and the staff always seemed very cheery, helpful and bright. You got a good vibe from when you went in the door. A worrying time for us was made so much easier by all the help given by everyone, and I would happily recommend this home to anyone.

The willows is a cosy home from home care home. My nana has just moved there recently and she has settled in very well . The staff are very caring and helpful they wanted to know all about my nana before she arrived and which was such a good idea as we felt they knew her and knew some of the family aswell. The home is very clean the rooms are spacious and warm with a patio door which usually overlooks the countryside or garden. The meals are lovely and my nana was a very good cook so she can recommend the cooking at the willows. There is an alarm system where if any resident is in need of help can press their button and this sets off an alarm in the main reception so all staff can see where they are needed. The conservatory is a very pleasant room for relaxation music and reading board games or to just have a nap. There is a care plan for every resident in place.

We moved my mother here, she likes the ambiance, the food and the staff are loving and caring, it is calm unlike the larger facility which was a facility where everyone seemed overworked and run off their feet, lots of loud talking, not many activities. This is gentler more caring, more personal, my mum now has access to email, great for distant family , many of us overseas, nothing is too much trouble it seems. My mother is thriving.
Just the beautiful surroundings and gardens made the place a big yes for us as a family, to know she is able to sit in the Orangery and look out at the birds and wildlife, in the summer garden, it's wonderful. Much better than the second floor of a large facility with no access to views or outside unless someone visits. The rooms also have French door access to the secure grounds another big plus .

As with any care home people are worried in case they have made a mistake as I did in 2010. Once I suspected & proved mum was being mentally/physically abused I went through the correct channels to have her taken to a safe house for 3 months till I did my homework very thoroughly this time!

I visited several care homes including Willows many times. After 3 months of taking family with me to view home after home I found myself calling at Willows yet again! In Feb 2013 I moved mum to Willows. Naturally I was apprehensive & visited all the time. Never did I see anything to suggest mum was being ill treated! She was, for the first time, in over 3 years clean & smelled clean, her hair was washed/set, hands feet legs massaged & creamed, nails cut/painted. I had dumped her other clothes as they weren't fit for the charity shop & bought new ones. She is always clean & clothes colour co-ordinated, she's always very well presented!
Although mum has dementia she never says anymore-don't bring people to see me, I'm dirty/smelly. She knows she is clean, well cared for, well fed & has even put weight on since moving to Willows! Of course I was wary, didn't sleep for the first few months, & couldn't wait to go & see her to make sure she was well looked after! Who wouldn't be after what mum & I have been through!
Mum has been at Willows 6 months now & I am very relaxed. I've actually been on holiday because I know she is safe & in good caring, gentle, thoughtful, kind hands! The staff are lovely & I'm sure it's due to their kindness that mum is no longer in a dark place! She's relaxed, smiles a lot, eats all her meals, & chats a lot with all of them. She is her own boss & goes to bed or gets up when she wants to, there are no strict regimes with no choices. She's treated like a human being & respected for her part in WW2 which she talks about often & always says 'They were the best years of my life' I'm sure mum thinks her move to Willows for the latter part of her life are the best years to!
Mum is 90 years young on Remembrance Sunday & since being at Willows she looks a lot younger & the difference is clearly down to the lovely place with her own en-suite room with TV & an intercom should she need staff during the night. Excellent staff care & an ambitious owner Paul whom is constantly upgrading rooms & looking for new ways to improve things. The Orangerie is where you'll find mum & myself lounging whilst other residents draw, do jigsaws, sit & chat, play dominoes, or have a nap. If it's too hot there are plenty of tables/chairs outside around the Orangerie, also a front garden to sit in which is a real sun trap.
I was invited to sample the food residents have, it was delicious, well presented & much better than I've tasted in some restaurants! I've been invited to yet another Tea Party this month, I shall take some of mums friends to enjoy the lovely hand made sandwiches scones & cakes whilst singing along with Christie Charles whom kindly comes along to entertain residents & staff, & if we're lucky a certain member off staff may get up & dance again.
I am very happy with everything at the Willows, not forgetting the managers Tracy & Samantha whom have nursing qualifications & it's good to know they know the signs & ring for a doctor if they suspect something isn't right!
Whenever I'm at Willows I feel like I'm out in the country, surrounded by lovely flowers/plants & fruit bearing trees. One of the residents & staff have planted various vegetables which are served to residents at meal times. They are delicious & a credit to them.
Thank you to everyone at Willows for restoring my faith, I know my mum is getting the best care there is! Paul & his managers wouldn't have it any other way.
Many thanks to all the staff to, you make mum happy & she HAS told me 'The staff are smashing'! Thanks also for telling me about mums lovely smiles & dry sense of humour. It's great to hear she's found it again!!!

10/10 for everything!!!!!

My father has been a resident in the Willows since September, following a fall and he is also suffering from dementia, which means he can no longer live on his own. We were extremely lucky to find him a place in the Willows, because he is very well cared for, clean and comfortable. He had not been eating properly and had lost a lot of weight, but he loves both the quality and quantity of the food in the Willows and has gained weight and looks so much better. He has his own en suite room which gives him privacy, and a French door leading out to the patio. He loves the conservatory with its views over the beautiful grounds. He also has company when he needs it, and we are welcome to visit him freely. The staff are friendly, professional and accessible. It is a great relief to know that he is in such good hands.

My mother-in-law has just spent two weeks respite at your home, on her return has said that she would go back any time. Every thing was to her liking which if you knew my mother-in -law is not an easy thing to say. There were no complaints about any thing so when there are vacancies available again she will be pleased to come back. Many, many thanks from both Brian and Lesley.
