Scarborough Hall Care Home, Scarborough, North Yorkshire

Situated on the edge of the bustling seaside town of Scarborough, this warm and inviting residence has great access to local amenities and it is a short drive from the sandy beaches of the North Yorkshire coast.

The home provides residential, dementia, respite, and palliative care.

With bedrooms divided between the residential and dementia care units, staff think carefully about the type of room each resident needs.

Bedrooms are set across three floors and there are two lounges and a diner on the bottom two floors. The top floor is smaller and has a separate lounge as well as a diner/lounge. All furnishings and decor throughout the home are of an exceptionally high standard. There is also extensive grounds surrounding the home with nautical-themed gardens, a conservatory, well-maintained pathways and accessible planters for green-fingered residents to enjoy.

Chefs prepare tasty and nutritional meals on site. Residents are able to choose from a daily menu, and all special dietary requirements can be catered for.

Activities Coordinators plan regular events for residents, either in the home or on excursions to the local area. Requests will be met where possible and all planning takes place in consultation with residents and their families to ensure that there is something for everyone.

Care workers understand that moving into Scarborough Hall will be a considerable transition, but it's one they try to make feel as easy as possible. By helping you arrange your room just the way you like, or bringing you your daily newspaper, they'll do the little things that make the biggest difference.

    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. (For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 3.988 for Scarborough Hall Care Home is calculated as follows:

      1. 8 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 8 Positive Reviews = 0.800

Every member of staff from management to maintenance are always friendly, polite and helpful. The care of our Mum is faultless. She is treated with respect and dignity at all times. As a family, we are also treated exceptionally well with opportunities to discuss mum and find out anything we need to know.

We wanted to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude for the care and treatment that Scarborough Hall and all the staff have given to our Father. Even through challenging & difficult times, he was always treated with utmost care and compassion. Dad was always a caring and considerate person who loved to help people and it was so nice for him to be able to spend his last few months in an environment which reciprocated this. Your staff and their passion for the residents shows the passion they have for the work they do & we clearly saw their emotions. The support you gave us together with the District Nursing and Hospice teams was amazing, from the constant care for Dad to the endless refreshments and care for us has made such a sad and difficult time a little easier to cope with. On the night of his passing, your staff were just fantastic and we can honestly say we embraced them as part of our family. So a huge thank you to you all for everything just AMAZING.

My mother has lived here since November 2014. We believe she is well cared for, in spite of this she has times when she is deeply unhappy. This worries us.
She does not seem to eat much. Last time we called she has rejected a crusty roll which she had been given in spite of the fact she has no bottom teeth. Perhaps she chose it herself?!
Her room has become very shabby, her bedside lamp was taken away and not returned and her TV has only just began to work.

Bethany Gibbons, Marketing assistant at Scarborough Hall Care Home responded to this review on 11 Aug 2016:

Thank you for your comments. We welcome all feedback that will help us to improve our services.
We are sorry that in this instance we have not been able to achieve excellence in all areas of this review of Scarborough Hall.

I W’s mothers bedroom is in the process of being refurbished as we were aware of there being a couple of areas for improvement in the appearance of her bedroom. The lamp has been replaced and we do ensure all of our rooms are furnished to the highest specifications with the resident’s comfort in mind.
In terms of the food & dining offered at Scarborough Hall, we have recently made some changes to our catering service to enhance our resident dining experience and have introduced a new “Spring and Summer Menu” offering a choice of appetizing and nutritionally balanced meals. The Scarborough Hall team seeks regular feedback from residents about the choice of meals served and this helps us to plan our menus, ensuring that all meals offered are appropriate for each resident.
If there is anything you would like to discuss further, please do not hesitate to contact customercare@brighterkind.com or pop into the home to speak to me anytime. Many thanks, Charlotte Nurse, Home Manager.

Excellent care, food, cleanliness, laundry and social activities.

Overall the home is excellent, though I believe that some changes among the number of staff. There is a requirement for more staff and for them to be able to be contacted more easily. They should have personal radios for ease of contact within the home.

After viewing several care homes I was very lucky to be recommended Scarborough Hall by a colleague, her father being a resident at the time. Every member of staff were very friendly, helpful, caring and supportive to my husband and myself. They all work so hard to provide such good care. I found it a difficult decision putting my husband into care but so glad I found Scarborough Hall.

Both of my parents are residents of this home, which I was lucky enough to find. After visiting 21 homes and some of which I would not have put a dead dog in. I had the appearance of being a small home, full well appointed en-suite rooms. TV, fridge, wardrobes etc. Lovely gardens, daily newspaper, outings, entertainment, excellent food and a good choice. Spotless en-suite. No smells, staff always meet you with a smile. Management always available, I feel very happy I found this home.
