Scarborough Hall Care Home, Scarborough, North Yorkshire
Scarborough Hall Care Home, Scarborough, North Yorkshire

Situated on the edge of the bustling seaside town of Scarborough, this warm and inviting residence has great access to local amenities and it is a short drive from the sandy beaches of the North Yorkshire coast.

The home provides residential, dementia, respite, and palliative care.

With bedrooms divided between the residential and dementia care units, staff think carefully about the type of room each resident needs.

Bedrooms are set across three floors and there are two lounges and a diner on the bottom two floors. The top floor is smaller and has a separate lounge as well as a diner/lounge. All furnishings and decor throughout the home are of an exceptionally high standard. There is also extensive grounds surrounding the home with nautical-themed gardens, a conservatory, well-maintained pathways and accessible planters for green-fingered residents to enjoy.

Chefs prepare tasty and nutritional meals on site. Residents are able to choose from a daily menu, and all special dietary requirements can be catered for.

Activities Coordinators plan regular events for residents, either in the home or on excursions to the local area. Requests will be met where possible and all planning takes place in consultation with residents and their families to ensure that there is something for everyone.

Care workers understand that moving into Scarborough Hall will be a considerable transition, but it's one they try to make feel as easy as possible. By helping you arrange your room just the way you like, or bringing you your daily newspaper, they'll do the little things that make the biggest difference.

Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 4.259 for Scarborough Hall Care Home is calculated as follows:

      1. 11 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 11 Positive Reviews = 1.100 (maximum score = 1)

Overall the home is excellent, though I believe that some changes among the number of staff. There is a requirement for more staff and for them to be able to be contacted more easily. They should have personal radios for ease of contact within the home.

After viewing several care homes I was very lucky to be recommended Scarborough Hall by a colleague, her father being a resident at the time. Every member of staff were very friendly, helpful, caring and supportive to my husband and myself. They all work so hard to provide such good care. I found it a difficult decision putting my husband into care but so glad I found Scarborough Hall.

Both of my parents are residents of this home, which I was lucky enough to find. After visiting 21 homes and some of which I would not have put a dead dog in. I had the appearance of being a small home, full well appointed en-suite rooms. TV, fridge, wardrobes etc. Lovely gardens, daily newspaper, outings, entertainment, excellent food and a good choice. Spotless en-suite. No smells, staff always meet you with a smile. Management always available, I feel very happy I found this home.

My mother moved from her own flat into Scarborough (prev lodge) in 2007. This was the outstanding care home in Scarborough after we had looked at many others. The options ticked below applied from 2007 until last year when she died. I cannot praise enough the whole staff from management, care staff, cleaners, receptionist etc. My mother who had dementia was always treated with dignity and her family for the last 6 years of her life it was a great relief knowing she was safe.

When I had to start looking for a home Scarborough Hall was recommended. I visited the hall and was very surprised by the staff and receptionist welcome. I was also impressed with the overall standard of cleanliness, care/support, staff room, facilities, food, drink, activities, safety, security and well being of all residents. The hall is value for money and I would recommend Scarborough to friends, family and even strangers.

Scarborough Hall looked after both my parents. My father from when they opened until he died in 2013 from a broken heart. My mother moved in 6 months after my dad, until she moved into a nursing home in 2012, where she dies six weeks before my father. Scarborough Hall looked after them both really well and always treated them kindly and with dignity. The rooms were always clean and tidy and the staff very friendly to both residents and visitors. Nothing was ever too much trouble. I have no hesitation in recommending the care home and staff involved.

Dear Ely (Scarborough Hall Activities Leader)
I had a wonderful day on Saturday at the Home's Annual Fete and taking Mum to Church on Sunday and seeing her in such good form was a real joy for me.
Mum's dementia is clearly progressing, her speech is going and she has no idea of where she is and what is going on...but....she is completely without anxiety and is calm and at peace. This can only be because of the love and care you and the Scarborough Hall team give to her.
Throughout my life I am regularly surprised by people who have such energy and desire to care for others, such love is a gift and I thank God that you have that gift and my Mum is benefiting from it.
Thank You Ely
