Armstrong House

A welcoming, spacious, warm, comfortable, beautifully decorated clean home. The staff are always friendly, supportive, caring, informative and professional. My Dad settled very quickly because of the wonderful caring staff attending to his every need in a sensitive individual way. They treat my Dad like their own with respect and dignity, he is always clean and well cared for, receiving medical attention if necessary. Debbie and the dedicated staff have given it the reputation it deserves. An excellent home with quality care and services. I have total peace of mind, and would not hesitate recommending it for your loved ones.

Our Golden Wedding anniversary was in December and I would like to say how much I appreciated the staff making it a special occasion. The table setting was very professional and their cards even included one from my husband. The same happened again at Christmas - residents and relations were sitting in a big circle enjoying their tea in a typical traditional family way. Each time my friends and family have been very impressed. Thanks to Katy & Jennifer.

All the staff from domestics to management were there at all times whatever the time of day for our mam and ourselves. They are very caring, it is not just a job to them. My mum is well cared for and the staff are very approachable and good at their job. They are very professional, caring and considerate. They go beyond their duties, always have a smile on their face. They do a lot of activities with the residents, from sing songs, bonnet making, flower arranging and also ponies in to see residents etc. We are looking to have our mum in permanent as she is respite. Really hope we can.

The staff are very caring and friendly to everyone and will give you any information you need at anytime of the day. My Mam went if for respite for three weeks, she was very poorly and had a poor diet and fluid intake, the staff picked up on this immediately and put a chart in place. They contacted the GP who wanted my mam to to to hospital, my mam did not want to go because she loved the staff and loved being here, duet to the staff going beyond there duties my Mam is the best she has been in a long time. I would recommend this home to anyone.

The carers here do a good job dealing with difficult residents and working in the heat of the home. They always remain cheerful and smiling. I know they love their jobs as they come to work when they are feeling poorly themselves. Sometimes they come in on their days off if there is a staff shortage. All the staff in this home are kind considerate and helpful.

Debbie Douglas

Job Title: Home Manager

Description:

Debbie Douglas is home manager at Armstrong House. She tells what she thinks makes a good care home manager.

The key elements that make someone a good care home manager are excellent communication skills as well as extensive knowledge and experience of what they do. They need to have a good overview of every team member’s job.

It’s also up to the home manager to set the standard in terms of quality. They need to be constantly ensuring that everything, from the care being delivered, to the activities being planned and the food being served is of the highest possible standard. What’s great is when we receive positive feedback from residents and families. Then we know we’re getting it right.

The atmosphere here at Armstrong House is fantastic and new residents and visitors often remark upon it. They’re also impressed by the way we deliver adult care with dignity, while finding the time to have fun. By the afternoon everyone’s settled and the fun begins – it’s my favourite part of the day. Our staff have great personalities (I think Care UK care homes have staff who are great fun while being dedicated to the people they care for) and are generally a great team. So over the coming months I’ll simply be helping them to build upon the good practice they’re already demonstrating every day.
