Garthowen is an attractive, spacious detached country house located at the end of a private driveway away from the busy main road. It is registered for 8 service users and as all the facilities are accessible it is ideal for service users with physical disabilities. It is set in the beautiful countryside of rural West Wales and only a short drive from Cardigan Bay.
The home is staffed 24 hours a day and is fully equipped with hoists and a shaft lift to cater for all needs the Service Users may have. The staff provide a specialist service to male and female adults with physical and learning disabilities and associated complex disorders including dementia, epilepsy, communication difficulties and challenging behaviour.
All the ground floor facilities are accessible to wheelchair users and there is a shaft lift for access to the bedrooms on the first floor. There are specially adapted bathrooms with wet rooms containing mobility aids specifically for those that require a high level personal care package. There is excellent access to the primary care teams in the area including speech therapy, community nurses, and occupational health.
We are registered with CSSIW to provide a service to younger adults and older persons. Garthowen offers various activities within the home such as Aerobics, Aromatherapy, and Adult Art Classes. Live entertainment is provided and visits to local places of interest are arranged on a regular basis.
We provide a full needs and risk assessments and support planning by well trained, experienced staff, individually tailored person centred support planning, including personal care assistance, social integration, independent living skills and community support. Continuity and consistency of support is managed by an experienced service manager with support to access specialist expertise as required, such as psychiatry, behavioural management, and occupational therapy in an outcome focused approach.
The property is accessed by a private driveway leading from the main road. All 8 beds are easily accessible for anyone with a physical disability. There is one ground floor room, the remainder accessible by a shaft lift. The Property is a large detached Victorian house with a large TV lounge, activity room, smoking room for residents and a conservatory. Bathrooms are situated on both floors. The garden area is used to keep chicken and for service users to be involved in growing bedding plants and vegetables.
