The Review Score of 9.557 for Galsworthy House Care Home with Nursing is based on 33 Reviews/Recommendations in the last 2 years.

  • The Review Score (maximum of 10) is made up of a Quality Score (maximum of 5) and Quantity Score (maximum of 5):

    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. (Please note that the ratings of Very Poor and Poor have only been available since the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015.)

      • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 4.917 for Galsworthy House Care Home with Nursing is calculated as follows:

      1. 33 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 33 Positive Reviews = 3.300 (maximum score = 1)

      3. (33 Positive Reviews ÷ 72 Registered Beds) x 2 = 0.917

  • The Review Score is based on user Recommendations/Reviews submitted in the last 2 years. The maximum Review Score is 10. There are 5 Points available for the average of all ratings on users Recommendations/Reviews (Excellent 5, Good 4, Satisfactory 3, Poor 2, Very Poor 1). My Uncle stayed at Galsworthy House for nearly 2 years. They provided excellent quality of care, especially challenging with a man who was very independent until his early 90's. He clearly felt safe, enjoyed the food, care & attention very much. For his entire stay, he was resident on the mezzanine floor which is managed by a member of staff who was utterly superb. His patience & kindness to my Uncle was unfailing & it was clear my Uncle grew very fond of him which was lovely to see. It was lovely to think we did not have to worry about him & if there were any concerns over his health they always reached out immediately. The Deputy Manager has also been fantastic, providing support & guidance over the last 2 years. My Uncle sadly passed away last month, he passed away peacefully & with dignity at the age of 93, you can't really ask for more than that.

My wife has been in Galsworthy House for about two and a half months, I visit most days so I seen life there at first hand. From the manager down to incomparable activities lady who organises the events, games, entertainments etc. Every one of the staff gives the most excellent care to the residents, interacting with them and showing kindness which is really quite touching. The lovely setting of Galsworthy House with it's Victorian splendour helps to make this a very special home. My wife is happy, and know that she is being well looked after I can sleep well at night.

I would like to write about the incredible care that the staff at Galsworthy House give to my mother. She has lived here since June and from the start she has felt at home, which is primarily due to the care and attention she is given. My father visits every day, and is warmly welcomed. It is the small details that show the great care, the white cotton tablecloths and silver cutlery, the fresh flowers and smiles from all the staff. I have no doubt that my mother is being in the best place for her, and I have recommended Galsworthy House to my friends who are considering care homes in the area.

Generally very good. Any issues raised by family members are attended to quickly and sympathetically. To be fair the only such issues have been both very minor and infrequent.

I can not recommend enough the wonderful care delivered to our father and every team member at Galsworthy House. Not only did they provide and extraordinary care package to our father but to ourselves as well. Our father arrive straight from hospital in pain and unable to sit or stand with a very poor appetite. He is now pain free, sitting out and capable of standing transfer. His appetite has improved enormously with the excellent food. When he decide he didn't wish what was on the menu it was never too much trouble for the staff to rustle up various egg dishes, toast etc. This flexibility of approach extends throughout the general care the home provides. Nothing is ever too much trouble for the staff. I would highly recommend Galsworthy House.

My mother's care home where she had been happy and content is being closed down by the council so a new care home had to be found for her. At the age of 95 she was welcomed to Galsworthy House where everything possible is being done to make her feel at home. The staff are all very caring and dedicated I am happy to know my mum will spend her last days in such a lovely, caring 'new' home.

Every care and attention has been given to my mother who at the age of 95 was made to leave her home and move. At Galsworthy her needs have been assessed with great consideration and monitored robustly and with sympathy. The move caused a small stroke and Galsworthy have organised speech therapy for my mother even though she is registered blind and hard of hearing. The family are extremely pleased with the care and facilities Galsworthy offers.

My mother moved here from a home which was closing down about a month ago. All the staff have been concerned and aware of the stresses this can cause an older person (she is 95). She has been treated with the utmost kindness and consideration despite her failing abilities, she can now hardly speak. It is a pity she has to move, but I cannot think of a better place for her end of life.

The Sunday "Tea Time" provide a change to the usual supper and are an informal way for residents to meet. These themed evenings provide a welcome change to the routine, add variety, food and drink. The dining room is themed differently on each occasion and family members are welcome to join. My father and family think they are a great idea.

Description:

Jane Starr is the manager of Galsworthy House in Kingston.

I started my career as a Nurse and have spent many years working in a wide variety of nursing roles within the NHS, specialising in Intensive Care and Accident & Emergency work before moving to the University of London to undertake a teaching qualification. I then taught as Senior Tutor at University College Hospital and went on to become Director of Nurse Education at Hammersmith Hospital. After 10 years in education I moved back to the service sector at Hammersmith Hospital, working as Deputy Unit General Manager, managing nursing staff in Intensive Care. I moved to the independent sector in 1993.

I take pride in the day-to-day running of Galsworthy House, and strive to ensure that all standards are consistently maintained.

I love the daily challenge, knowing every day is different and believe that my key strength is an ability to adapt to an ever changing environment. Having spent the past 10 years working for Caring Homes, I’m a very experienced Home Manager. Through my personal links I work hard to ensure that the home is an integral part of our local community.

Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my grandchildren, attending the gym, and taking dancing classes. I also enjoys ice skating, and have been awarded a medal for this in the past.
