  • The Review Score (maximum of 10) is made up of a Quality Score (maximum of 5) and Quantity Score (maximum of 5):

    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 3.978 for Lord Harris Court is calculated as follows:

      1. 8 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 8 Positive Reviews = 0.800

      3. (8 Positive Reviews ÷ 90 Registered Beds) x 2 = 0.178

We have been without a proper manager since Christmas. The staff we have keep it all going but I feel we are "floating". The home is warm, mostly clean and not at all "rigid". We are understaffed with carers and have far too many agency staff, not always easy to understand. Generally we are looked after but at times that vital bit is missing. The food is most uninteresting - not always well cooked but mostly edible. Outside caterers. I have a lovely ground floor room and I am completely mobile so need little attention. I have been here for three years and two months. I am not looking for anywhere else. This is probably as good as it gets.

Kristin Mewald, Marketing & Communications Officer at Lord Harris Court responded to this review on 20 Jun 2016:

The Home Manager had a meeting with Doris to discuss her comments. Doris changed her views in a number of area’s

Care/support - Good
Treated with dignity - Good
Staff - Good
Management - Good
Rooms - Excellent
Facilities - Good
Value for Money - Good

The rest of the comments stayed the same.

Food & Drink: Not sure why the kitchen have three chefs, would like to see a chef at supper time, cooking like at home runny eggs, spices i.e. Rosemary & Garlic. Food overall not bad not top quality the ways it is cooked, like they cannot be bothered!

Response: The Chef manager has been given the comments and asked to look into all of the areas raised, to discuss with Doris and feedback any changes that will be implemented.

Activities: Not organised, not always tailored to residents physical abilities.

Response: This area is being monitored and regular meetings with the activities staff to book entertainment well in advance and a survey has been distributed to residents asking what activities they would like to see. Doris agreed that over the last 4/6 weeks activities have improved more outings and live entertainment being booked.

Management: The previous comment was due to no perm management.

Doris stated she would recommend the Home.

The home has been without a manager since December 2015 and has been run by an acting manager and an assistant. The catering is done by an outside firm which is much to be desired, the food seemingly of the cheapest available. The activities are overseen by two activities ladies working 30 hours a week each. The home is generally well run, kept clean, and medicines provided as required. There is a general shortage of drivers for the home's three vehicles for hospital appointments and outings etc. The laundry does not always function as required and is awaiting re-furbishing.

My mother and father both resided at Lord Harris Court but sadly my father died in November and my mother now remains on her own. The carethe staff gave my father at the end of his life was fantastic. They managed his pain and kept him with my mother and in his room to the end which we very much appreciated as it involved a lot of extra care, and allowed him to die with dignity.

When I first came to the home I did not like it. I had never been away to a care home before, after a couple of weeks I went back to my house and again I found myself very lonely and realised I missed the company of the other residents and staff. Its the best thing I have ever done, thank you.
