The Review Score of 9.522 for Ranvilles Nursing Home is based on 21 Reviews/Recommendations in the last 2 years.

  • The Review Score (maximum of 10) is made up of a Quality Score (maximum of 5) and Quantity Score (maximum of 5):

    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. (Please note that the ratings of Very Poor and Poor have only been available since the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015.)

      The Quality Score (average rating) of 4.73 for Ranvilles Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (175 Excellents x 5) + (60 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 237 Ratings = 4.73

      • Any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this care provider to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

      • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 4.792 for Ranvilles Nursing Home is calculated as follows:

      1. 21 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 21 Positive Reviews = 2.100 (maximum score = 1)

      3. (21 Positive Reviews ÷ 53 Registered Beds) x 2 = 0.792

  • The Review Score is based on user Recommendations/Reviews submitted in the last 2 years. The maximum Review Score is 10. There are 5 Points available for the average of all ratings on users Recommendations/Reviews (Excellent 5, Good 4, Satisfactory 3, Poor 2, Very Poor 1). My mother was a resident at Ranvills for about 3 years suffering from Dementia. Her treatment and care was wonderful. She was treated with dignity and great care and love. We the family were most impressed with the care she received and thank the staff for it.

I visit almost every day and feed my wife with her lunch. Over the last sixteen months I have never had any regrets about my decision to place her with Ranvilles, they provide an excellent service under some very difficult circumstances.

I would urge anyone going to view Ranvilles to ignore the slightly shabby furniture and to sit, watch and listen for 10 minutes or so. You will see and hear real care in action along with a miriad of cleaning staff passing through, you will not smell the sometimes all to familiar odours of a care home. All residents are treated with the utmost care, dignity and respect no matter how severe the stage of dementia. You will receive greetings from all who pass by along with offers of cups of tea. Sadly my father passed away after only a month. The final stage of his life could not have been dealt with better, all staff would use his name at all times and explain to him what they were doing and why and he was dealt with in a kind and very gentle manner. In his final few days I stayed in his room with him, I was given a mattress to lie on and was kept supplied with a constant flow of tea, food and support 24/7. The kindness of the staff is beyond compare and I thank them all

Taki Jaffer, H/O Management Support at Ranvilles Nursing Home responded to this review on 30 Mar 2016:

Ranvilles has ordered new furniture for both lounges and should be with us early to mid April.

I brought my husband to Ranvilles at a time when I was feeling desperate. They worked with me to find a way forward when I thought there was no way. For this I shall always be grateful. Ranvilles has the high standard of care, good food and safety that you would hope for from any care home. There is also something extra, a pride in helping challenging cases, warm and support to relatives, that is very touching. I attribute this to a very strong management team, supported by a core of really nice people working as carers. Your relative will be safe with them. It will not all be perfect, it couldn't be, but the staff at Ranvilles will respond quickly to your concerns and adapt a place suitable for your needs. Many thanks to them all.

My dad was only at the home for a few weeks, but during this time, the care towards my dad was outstanding, nothing was too much trouble. They treated him with dignity and respect. Always explaining to my dad what they were going to do before attempting/giving personal care. Being a nurse myself and having worked in many homes over ten years. Ranvilles is by far the best for care and support for residents as well as the relatives.

The standard of care was amazing no matter what time of day or night they came into his room to check he was alright and myself. They also looked after all the family during my partners last few days, they gave emotional support throughout. Nothing was too much trouble. The staff treated my partner with care and attention. Respecting his religious beliefs by contacting priest at the family's request to visit my partner near the end.

From the very first visit we were very impressed with the nursing staff and level of care provided. Having viewed many other homes we were very pleased with our choice. Over the past six months we've had no reason to question our choice and have been able to relax knowing that mum is safe and well cared for 24/7.

Care staff are very welcoming and friendly. Excellent nursing staff who are very caring and thorough with regards to keeping my father well (he has a history of heart problems). I feel my father's care is excellent and he is in the right place. Cleaning staff are also very friendly and interact with residents. Staff have excellent ways of dealing with dementia.

Unfortunately as we were not able to visit our son due to age, disability and distance from Fareham, we cannot give first hand comments. However our grandson, who visited their father regularly, never made any adverse remarks and only assured us that our son was well cared for in ever respect.

Since mum has been at Ranvilles I feel happy that she is well treated, fed well, has kept her dignity. The staff and management are caring, they keep the family informed of any issues. I have peace of mind that the staff can manage my mother's condition. The food is excellent - a home from home. Mum was in another home before Ranvilles which I was not impressed with.

My Thoughts on Ranvilles

Ranvilles is a lovely home, its a pleasure to be in. Ranvilles is in a lovely old house . The d├ęcor is very pleasing to the eye. The staff are lovely and always say hello when you arrive and chat to you and tell me what my ma has been up to. Nothing is too much bother for them.

My ma has quite challenging behaviour and the staff are great with her and very patient and understanding. The food is always well presented and looks delicious they even make their own ice cream.

In fact my mum loves Ranvilles and has settled down very well. She was in hospital for a long time but says Ranvilles, is much better than hospital. All staff always greet my ma in the lounge area and she loves it. I was very apprehensive about her moving from hospital to the home but all the staff are so caring. The nurses even helped her pressure areas on her heel to heal completely. The manager is brilliant and has helped me understand my mum better. My ma always looks smart and well presented nice laundry service too. The staff are even great with my old dad when he visits. Thank you so much to everyone at Ranvilles.

My husband was there for 3 1/2 years. I visited him at least 3 times a week. Very caring, the staff manager became a friend. She helps me a lot especially when I lost my husband. I have no family, I visit the home once a week still and have become friends with a lady resident. I had great support from the manager especially at the death of my husband. He was very contented there and I cannot praise them enough for all the work they all do.
