Abbeycrest Care Home is located in the quiet village of Sonning Common, in the heart of the Chilterns and is one of Caring Homes’ newest homes, offering exceptional residential, nursing and specialist dementia care.

Abbeycrest provides residents with a true Care Pathway by offering a full suite of residential, nursing and dedicated dementia care. As such, residents may rest safe in the knowledge that the home can cater for their care needs both now and in the future.

Abbeycrest Care Home’s dementia care provision has been designed to meet the University of Stirling’s standards, which are widely acknowledged as providing the best living environment for people living with dementia. Stirling’s Dementia Services Development Centre is renowned as the world leader in this field. The Stirling approach ensures that residents are able to move freely around the home, with bedrooms and communal areas appropriately laid out and clearly signposted to minimise confusion or disorientation. Each bedroom features a memory box by its front door, where mementos from a resident’s life help to personalise their room and also remind staff and visitors of the individual’s life story.

The home offers a full range of residential, nursing and specialist dementia support, including trial stays, respite breaks and convalescent care as well as long term care. Residents are encouraged to bring important personal possessions to personalise their rooms. Abbeycrest operates an open visiting policy, where residents and loved ones may visit at convenient times. In common with all their homes, Abbeycrest’s manager has a qualified nursing background.

The home is fully registered with the Care Quality Commission and has ISO9001/2000 and Hospitality Assured accreditation.

Review of Abbeycrest Care Home

We were very impressed when we visited the home, especially with the quality of life provided for the residents. Initially, my aunt was greatly stimulated by social events and activities and interactions with other residents. Later as her condition deteriorated everything possible was done to make her as comfortable as she could be.

Review of Abbeycrest Care Home

I would thoroughly recommend the Abbeycrest care home for the following reasons: - The staff at all levels are very attentive and caring for both residents and their families. - Both the nursing and general care are of a very high standard. - The accommodation is of an equally high standard with the individual rooms maintained to make the resident feel very much at home. - The communication links within the room, from the normal call buttons, to direct dial phone, and high speed internet connection enabling video Skype calls around the world from the resident's bed!

My father had a terminal condition. He was loved and cared for exceptionally well by all the staff at his home, where he felt genuinely cared for. All the staff made clear efforts to get to know him and would spend time with him every day. His room was excellent and he spent very happy days in Abbeycrest and it was a wonderful environment for him to spend his last days.

Quality of care. When Margaret first went into Abbeycrest, she fell into deep depression which the staff dealt with patiently and with great persistence. Clearly, life for Margaret now is not ideal, but they do an enormous amount to make life bearable and do much to keep her spirits up. They even made a personalised birthday card for her.

Review of Abbeycrest Care Home

Mum needed a safe place to stay following a period in hospital. On visiting Abbeycrest I was greeted in a friendly and professional manner. I was taken on a tour and noticed the cleanliness, the fact that residents were all of a tidy appearance and all staff greeted me with a smile and 'hello'. Mum moved in October 2012 and very soon settled down and decided to stay. She says 'it feels like home'.

Review of Abbeycrest Care Home

The home has nursing and Dementia in two units so that is necessary mum can switch. The home doesn't smell, staff and manager listen and act upon concerns. Activities everyday to keep residents lively. Residents have lovely rooms and communal space. Most importantly is the high ratio of staff to residents and a nurse on duty in each of the units 24/7. We can visit anytime. Manager has an open door policy .

Review of Abbeycrest Care Home

A bright, airy and modern environment and this reflects in all the staff, in their attitude and communications with residents and their visitors/relatives. The 'hotel' but 'home' atmosphere is 'just right' in that the older person feels 'spoilt and special' with lovely furnishings, caring staff and attractive food and menus that cater for a variety of wishes and diets, and individual special needs. My Dad feels safe and secure and cared for and that is everything I wish for him and I am never made to feel anything but welcome in any communications with staff.
