    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. • Any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this care provider to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

      • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 4.526 for Coxhill Manor is calculated as follows:

      1. 15 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 15 Positive Reviews = 1.500 (maximum score = 1)

      3. (15 Positive Reviews ÷ 57 Registered Beds) x 2 = 0.526

Mum happy here. Staff friendly and helpful. Mum is a very private person and does not easily join in with activities but she thinks they are very good for those who use them. Enjoys looking at garden, especially in summer.

About six months ago my wife was diagnosed with dementia which was unexpected and came as a great shock. Her consultant advised that she should go into a care home due to her condition. I tried various homes in the area but was not impressed, until I met the manager of Coxhill Manor in Surrey. He appeared to have plenty of time to discuss my situation, including finance and funding. He showed me the room which was available which was very pleasant, clean and had an excellent view of the well kept gardens. During our tour I noticed how relaxed the residents were with the carers and staff, who treated them with respect, but talked to them like friends. I learnt that at least two qualified nurses were always on duty day/night. All my family were in agreement that my wife should take up residence at Coxhill Manor. We have never regretted this decision.

My mother has lived at Coxhill for four years, she is 95 years old and physically very fit but has severe dementia. Without exception all the staff at Coxhill, management, nurses, carers, activities, kitchen, laundry, maintenance, gardeners treat my mother with the utmost kindness. They not only care for her physical needs but dance and sing with her and make her life as happy as they can. Despite her dementia she is always encouraged to join in the many activities which she loves.

My mother had to move to full time nursing care following a fall before which she had managed well living alone. I have to say that Coxhill Manor is a delight has a wonderful homely feel and the staff are efficient, caring and attentive. The manager should be proud of what he has achieved there. My mother is very happy there which gives me, her daughter peace of mind that she is safe and well cared for (when I am not there) 24hrs a day. I would highly recommend to any family!

From my point of view, Coxhill is the nearest thing possible to actually being in your our own home - there is a real family feel. The staff are friendly and always speak to us so we have got to know them and them us. Grandma often forgets names of nurses and carers - at 100 I'm sure she can be forgiven! but we know who she means by what they have done for her. A little note on a blouse Grandma was wearing, she said it was too tight and said she would like a spin out in the garden to pick the roses.
Nothing is too much trouble and I always feel at home. Everyone at Coxhill REALLY cares - it is more than just a job, particularly for the long standing members of staff. Not only do the staff care for Grandma (both & body!) they look after us and our family. The long service, dedication and attention to detail of the staff is Coxhill's greatest asset.

My mum arrived at Coxhill for respite in February and decided she would prefer to stay rather than return to her own home. She settled in easily and has continued to be happy and well. The staff cannot be faulted- they are helpful, considerate, empathetic, professional. They provide care, friendship and support.

Prior to my mother residing at Coxhill we met with the manager and toured the home. He was exceptionally helpful given the urgency of my mothers care needs and the transition form hospital to Coxhill was faultless. Coxhill could not have done more to help settle her in and all the residents are clearly happy and well cared for. My family visit regularly and we are always made to feel welcome. The staff work tirelessly to provide exceptional and excellent care and nothing is too much trouble. Many thanks to the management and staff.

I was extremely anxious about moving mum to a nursing home but liked the sign saying 'care home with nursing'. The manager and all staff provide a very homely atmosphere and environment, and are kind, caring and friendly. They have been very supportive towards me when required and both mum and I have settled in very well. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Coxhill Manor.

There is a lovely homely atmosphere at Coxhill Manor. I did not feel that at any of the other homes we viewed. (my parents and I viewed homes together as they knew they needed more care). Since they moved in they have been looked after so well. Mum has dementia but I can truly say she has only got better and happier since being at Coxhill. Dad has a lot of health issues and it has been difficult for him but everyone has been so supportive and caring.

My father lived at Coxhill for almost four years. When he first arrived he very much benefitted from all the activities that are scheduled on a daily basis, from poetry reading, crossword competitions to external entertainers coming in. As his dementia and health deteriorated he benefitted more from Coxhill,s outstanding nursing and care workers who he became dependent on. We were also impressed with their end of life care and cannot recommend this home high enough.

Alan Horler

Job Title: Home Manager

Description:

Alan joined Caring Homes in 2012, after having spent a number of years managing respite care services and getting new care homes for people with learning disabilities up and running smoothly. In recent years, he has managed care homes for elderly residents in Woking. Alan has been a registered manager for twenty years.
With a particular interest in palliative care and dementia, Alan ensures that every single member of his team puts the individual care needs of each resident uppermost. Whilst providing the highest quality clinical care is vitally important, Alan knows that it’s the little things that mean a lot; anything from making sure that his residents’ favourite tipples are available to installing a cat flap to make life easier for an elderly cat and her elderly owner.
Alan enjoys the day to day running of Coxhill Manor and is constantly looking for ways to enhance the quality of life of the people who live there, whether they take a short respite break or move in permanently. He firmly believes that every resident should be involved in all decisions relating to their own care and should have as many opportunities as possible to live life as actively and independently as they choose. He’d like to make Coxhill a significant part of the local community; inviting guests to join in the many activities on offer, or simply dropping in for a cup of tea and a chat.
Naturally, he takes his job very seriously and works hard to make sure that people nearing the end of life do so with total dignity. All of his staff genuinely have the best interests of their residents at heart; creating a comfortable, supportive, stimulating and above all friendly atmosphere. Whenever he gets the chance though, there’s nothing he likes better than sitting with his residents, listening to their stories and sharing a joke or two.
Alan enjoys walking - the Pembrokeshire coastal path beckons, although he hasn’t had the chance to don his walking boots just yet - also playing football and cycling.
