My wife and I looked at quite a few homes for my father once illness made it impossible for him to live alone. Of all the places we inspected, Old Wall Cottage seemed the most likely to be respectful of his needs and dignity, and it lived up to our hopes very well. Nursing staff show exemplary patience and skill, and the food is consistently good. Furthermore, when necessary, the staff will ensure it is actually consumed – after a long hospital stay, my father was very frail and thin, and OWC restored him to good physical health, although sadly his mind could not recover. The staffing ratio is high enough that nurses have time to talk to residents and establish a relationship: my father felt he was among friends. It is never easy making the decision that a parent can no longer live at home, but OWC helped make the decision more bearable. Some homes may offer more luxurious surroundings, but exemplary staff are far more important. OWC has got its priorities right. In addition, its location in attractive countryside means that my father was able to enjoy walks up to the last weeks of his life.
