The Red House Care Home has a Care Quality Commission excellent rating and is located in a residential area between Leatherhead and Epsom, a few minutes walk of Ashtead village with all its amenities and shops. The home is ideally situated for the excellent bus and train services nearby. This late Victorian property can accommodate up to 25 residents in tastefully decorated and comfortably furnished single rooms. Many rooms have en-suite facilities, TV points, nurse call systems and central heating. Residents may bring small personal items with them. Residents may relax and socialise in the large lounge provided and there is a separate dining room and spacious conservatory overlooking large gardens. Meals are served in the dining room - a home cooked, varied menu using fresh local produce wherever possible. The home has regular visits from hairdressers, chiropodists, physiotherapists and local doctors. The home employs a dedicated activities coordinator who provides a full programme of activities.

I love here, I particularly like that the staff are working hand in hand, and they have good laugh together, but they are also serious about work.

As a friend of a resident I have had chances to visit Red House and be with my friend. Also, I have got chances to talk to the care staff. My friend is extremely happy to live there and enjoys each moment of her life. The staff are very caring and passionate about working there. Her artistic interests are promoted by the home. I attended an art exhibition conducted by her which was organised by the home on her behalf. Her birthday was celebrated with pomp by the home. The general atmosphere at the home is very lively and stimulating. The food served is really tasty. My friend has never felt that she was in a care home. Instead she says she was lucky to be there. She likes the social life there and loves to live there until her last. The residents are entertained in various ways and they are encouraged to do gardening, knitting, engage in group activities, watch movies, live shows, floral arrangements, etc. It's a safe and secure place. Overall, it's a class apart.

I am next of kin to a friend who has no close family. For 1 year he had 24 hour care at home, which gave me a lot of responibility, I therefore can compare the care home with care in his own home. (I did not live with him). The care home staff are always pleasant and willing, they treat my friend with respect and kindness. He needs 2 carers to move him on a hoist. The carers have been supervised and taught to move hime as comfortably as possible. Food is good and interesting and he eats well. He has confidence in the nursing staff. Visitors are welcome and the activities are stimulating. There is a friendly atmosphere, which means I can go away and know he is with friends. The social activities that include family and friends are excellent.

Nice and bright place. I quite like it. The staff were good to me and kind. Bright and happy here. I enjoyed it here. I liked the food. Everybody treated me alright. I enjoyed my stay here. The residents were also kind to me.

Made to feel welcome, offered refreshments, encouraged to join in with activity taking place. Friend enjoys living at The Red House, food is outstanding. Loved birthday cake made for her. Carers are attentive and always friendly. Was at a 100th birthday party all residents were involved, good entertainment. Home is always clean and tidy.

On coming out of hospital, my husband could not return to the home he had been living in, because he needed nursing care (I had been very pleased with his care at the first home). He suffered from Alzheimers disease since 2000, and a stroke in 2009. The care provided at The Red House made me confident, plenty of staff about, I was made welcome, and during the last days of John's life, I was also given support and help. A year later I still visit friends among the residents and staff. It is only five miles from home and I am able to recommend The Red House to friends and acquaintances looking for a local care home.
