My wife was resident for 28 days for assessment before decision for permanent situation. She was happy and comfortable that, had the journey to and form been easier, she would have stayed. Staff were friendly and efficient in all contacts. The room was clean. The food was good. All in all happy to recommend this home.

After visiting various nursing homes, we decided on Wray Common because of the superb high standard of care . All of the staff go out of their way to ensure a happy, loving & secure atmosphere for both residents, families & friends. The day to day running of the home is of an exceptionally high standard. In this traumatic time, the matron & the nursing staff have exceeded our expectations. We are reassured that she is in a safe, secure & caring home .....by far the most suitable place for her.

Last year Mum spent a weekend of respite care at Wray Common Nursing Home, which she thoroughly enjoyed. So when she suffered a medical crisis and we had to choose a permanent place at a Nursing Home, the choice was easy. She has her own good-sized, en-suite, room, which includes bed with ripple mattress (she developed two pressure sores during her stay in hospital), easy chair, chest of drawers, bed side chest, large built-in wardrobe, commode and a chair for a visitor. The room has several pictures fixed to the walls, but she has also been able to hang up pictures of her own; we were also encouraged to provide small furniture to display some of Mum's own ornaments and photos. During the day Mum has breakfast in her room and is then helped to get up and dressed, then is taken downstairs to one of the two main day rooms. There she is involved in the communal entertainment activities, which include quizzes, painting, cooking, flower arranging, and singing. She has her lunch and afternoon tea downstairs before being taken back to her room for her light supper, and then bed. Mum is very happy here and enjoys the mix of time with others and time alone. She is able to choose the balance herself. Some residents choose not to join the others downstairs, and all wishes are respected. Friends of mine have suggested that we do unexpected visits to the home at different times of the day to see the quality of care across the day, but personally I don't feel the need for such observation; as a nurse myself I know Mum is getting good care. The matron and staff nurses are quite accessible and happy to chat, exchange ideas and keep me up to date with developments.

My Aunt is staying for a couple of weeks so her home can adapted to her needs. I cannot fault the care that all the staff have shown her and the way they have kept me informed. Within her short stay she has been able to improve her mobility and feel she will be better able to cope when she returns home.

My mother-in-law was looked after by Wrays Common for palliative care. She felt well cared for and was always praising the staffs efforts. When she was extremely unwell they constantly tried to find something she would enjoy to eat. Nothing was too much trouble. Thankyou

The staff at Wray Common are some of the most professional and kind staff that I have ever encountered. They cared for my mother throughout her stay with dignity. The Home has a friendly quality to it and was the reason why it was chosen. In fact my mother's sister had worked at the same Home after she retired because she enjoyed the atmosphere in the Home. Clients are treated with respect and individual care. My mother looked forward to seeing the staff every day and the meals provided.

Kind and caring. Make time for queries, meetings etc. Amenable to individual requirements. There are lots of activities organised for the residents. I was allowed to take my dog in to visit my father, something he really enjoyed.

I cannot thank the staff enough for the love and care they gave my father in his last few weeks of life, and for the care and guidance they gave to me and my family during a very difficult time. Dad was given a room with a garden view, the staff were polite, cheerful and extremely caring. He was given the dignity and compassion you hope a loved one would receive in their final days. He was clean, comfortable and in no pain whatsoever. The staff checked on Dad on a regular basis and had no hesitation in calling the doctor out if they felt he needed to be see. When Dad passed away, we were given as much time as we needed to say our goodbyes. On arrival, I felt immediately that we had chosen the right place and would recommend Wray Common wholeheartedly to anyone who asked.

Wray Common Nursing & Residential Home

I cannot speak highly enough of the staff and management at Wray Common. We chose Wray Common after having considered a number of homes in the area. They agreed to take in my ailing father in the late stages of lung/prostate cancer for end of life care on very short notice due to a sudden deterioration in his condition. He was made comfortable and his medication carefully managed so that he ended his short stay with them and his days at peace. They liaised closely with St Catherine's Hospice and local doctors to deal with his symptoms/medication. There was a high level of nursing staff and ancillary staff present/involved at all times and they always showed care, compassion, politeness and respect to dad and his family. Melanie was fabulous and it was so good to know she was there, right from the first interview. They always asked if we were OK too. Although Wray Common may not look quite as modern/swish as some of the newer homes it is clear the level/quality of nursing and care is high and that is what matters most in a nursing home. Thank you Wray Common. (I have rated some aspect of the home as Good, as we did not necessarily experience them fully. The room is rated "good" as it was due to be refurbished - but the main thing is that dad was given a bed on short notice when he needed it most, so we were more than happy to accept it).

Both my parents entered the home about 18 months ago. My mother passed away at the end of 2014 but she was so well looked after as a dementia sufferer throughout. She was always treated with care and dignity. My father relished the ability to share a room with her during this time and enjoyed the friendships he has made with both staff and fellow residents. It was also so supportive of them to attend my mother's funeral in force.

My Mother-in-Law
My 96 year-old mother-in-law was very well cared for during her stay whilst she recovered from a serious illness in hospital. She needed one to one care from an outside agency at the outset which was reduced to daytime only as she improved. The owners and all the staff were helpful and caring. The quality of the accommodation, the catering and the in-room entertainment was good. Wray Common is a welcoming and homely establishment which I would certainly recommend.

Review is about my mothers care at Wray Common Nursing Home
First the choosing of this home, this is a very stressful process; (I am sure other family’s are aware). I visited unannounced at several homes but in general was unimpressed either by the lack of planning / organisation, staff ratio’s or just plain poor ambiance. At Wray Common I found staff Ratio’s high, a well organised motivated team and a manager that knew exactly what was happening, answered questions honestly and in detail, on other visits it was obvious he was on site most days. My mum took up residence at Wray Common after a protracted stay in a hospital where she had gained a number of bed sores and also sun burn, (from being left by a window for to long) to be blunt she was poorly, confused and depressed. The team at Wray Common were proactive and gave my mum constant positive care, and I mean care not just nursing, which had been sorely missing. Soon my mum’s skin had healed her bedsores reduced (this was a longer process) and she became positive and less confused. After that she was encouraged to join in the excellent activities that are run there by people with imagination, care and patients. I visit on a regular basis and have always found enough staff on duty and someone to talk too; all the staff are up to date about my mum, the carers are excellent and show patients and compassion, mum always states that they are always happy to help. The staff at Wray Common have not only cared for my mum but have given her a new lease of life. She has had chest infections whilst there; however these were caught early and doctor called and the appropriate medication prescribed. With the nurse ensuring that my mum takes the medication (lacking in the past) she has recovered quickly. I am very happy that I placed my mum’s care into the hands of Wray Common Thank you

My elderly father, who suffered with late stage dementia, spent the last 2 weeks of his life at the nursing home. Our family could not have asked for better care for him and he was treated with the utmost respect and consideration. The staff, especially the matron and the nurses, were very helpful, kind and supportive to us. We would highly recommend this nursing home.

My father has had two visits at Wray Common in the last 2 years. On both occassions the care was exemplary. All the carers were attentive and supportive to both my father's and our needs. During this most recent visit, in his final days, Dad was kept very comfortable and we were given the support and advice we needed. The care was always respectful and appropriate for which we are very grateful. We would particularly thank the homes nursing manager for the professionalism and compassion shown to us.

My mother has lived at Wray Common now since March. The carers and nursing staff have been wonderful. The staff are so patient and I always hear from them when I arrive as to how Mum has been since my last visit. She has settled in well and is enjoying the constant care and mental stimulation which is provided at Wray Common. Visitors are always welcome and we can pop in to see Mum at any time, which made Christmas a really special time.
