  • The maximum Review Score for a care home / service is 10 and it is based on the published (including Restricted Publication) Reviews in the last 2 years. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

The Review Score of 8.408 for Hillside Lodge is based on 4 Reviews/Recommendations in the last 2 years.

  • The Review Score (maximum of 10) is made up of a Quality Score (maximum of 5) and Quantity Score (maximum of 5):

    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. (Please note that the ratings of Very Poor and Poor have only been available since the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015.)

      The Quality Score (average rating) of 4.875 for Hillside Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (43 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 4.875

    • Quantity Score: 5 Points are available for the number of 'Positive Reviews' for a care home / service. A Positive Review is defined as:

      • Any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this care provider to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

      • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 3.533 for Hillside Lodge is calculated as follows:

      1. 4 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 4 Positive Reviews = 0.400

      3. (4 Positive Reviews ÷ 60 Registered Beds) x 2 = 0.133

  • The Review Score is based on user Recommendations/Reviews submitted in the last 2 years. The maximum Review Score is 10. There are 5 Points available for the average of all ratings on users Recommendations/Reviews (Excellent 5, Good 4, Satisfactory 3, Poor 2, Very Poor 1). Level of care for my dad from the staff is excellent, they interact well and have made Hillside genuinely feel like home. We are always welcomed and kept up to date with how he has been in the past week. Christmas fayre was really good. Great entertainment and a lively friendly afternoon. care home is always clean when we visit, and so is dad! The staff make it a pleasure to visit dad.

Both my Nan and my great great Aunt live at Hillside lodge. They had previously lived together after my granddad passed away for company. Due to their different needs they are on different floors but the staff ensure everyday they spend the time together that they want. My great great Aunt came in first after a hospital admission and she has always had nothing but praise about the home and its staff. She refers to 'one carer in particular' a lot saying how lovely she is! My Nan was then at home alone and her mental state deteriorated and she was showing signs of dementia. She then had a fall, once well enough she moved in also to the home and since being with you she has come on leaps and bounds. She is happy again and her memory so much better, in fact not bad for 89! And she also absolutely loves it with you all. I can't thank you all enough. it means so much to know they are safe and happy.

Mum lived at Hillside for almost two years and we, her family, could not have been happier with the care and love with which she was looked after. The staff were always kind and gentle with her. They would sit or bend to her level to speak to her, never standing over her. They would hold her hand, touch her shoulder, or stroke her hair whilst chatting with her. The very elderly have often lost many of their closest people and for many close communication and a caring touch is a thing of the past.
The food, whilst Mum could manage it, was excellent, and when she began to have problems with eating, a member of staff was always with her making her food suitable and helping her with it.
The entertainment provided was popular with Mum, even when she got frailer and quieter. If there was singing on offer she would liven up and sing along as though she was still in her heyday!
Her visitors were always welcomed by name and offered tea or coffee and chats about Mum's condition. Staff were always about so residents always knew that they were part of a home and family with comings and goings.
Communication with the family was excellent and if there was ever an issue with Mum's health, the staff would be on the phone immediately to let us know and to reassure us that they could deal with whatever had occurred.
It all meant that for Mum's last two years we could have full confidence in her happiness and safety and knew that all her needs were being met in the best possible way.
Shaw Healthcare and Hillside staff are to be congratulated.

I cannot recommend Hillside Lodge highly enough. We were very worried when Lily had to leave her home and move away from Fernhurst, but she is so happy and healthy now.She is really being looked after and feels like she belongs.
I think now she realises just how lonely she was at home on her own as now she is part of a big family. The staff are so very caring and never miss anything. If a resident wants a drink or something to eat or the bathroom they are ready to spring into action.
At the same time if everyone is taken care of they are more than happy to sit and chat with residents or just sit and hold hands if someone is unwell.
This place gets five stars, ten out of ten,A*** and any other recommendation I can give .Thank you Hillside Lodge for making our beloved Lily happy and feel valued again instead of a faceless person who was in the way!!
