The Review Score of 9.166 for Barchester Westlake House Care Home is based on 10 Reviews/Recommendations in the last 2 years.

  • The Review Score (maximum of 10) is made up of a Quality Score (maximum of 5) and Quantity Score (maximum of 5):

    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. The Quality Score (average rating) of 4.833 for Barchester Westlake House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (100 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 120 Ratings = 4.833

      • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 4.333 for Barchester Westlake House Care Home is calculated as follows:

      1. 10 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 10 Positive Reviews = 1.000

      3. (10 Positive Reviews ÷ 60 Registered Beds) x 2 = 0.333

Both my husband and myself have been visiting Westlake House for the past seven years. First with mother-in-law and now with father-in-law and can do nothing else but praise all staff. The home is always spotless, the staff are caring, attentive and soooo considerate to residents and family. The food is excellent. We live next to a care home and it could learn a lot from Westlake House. No praise could be too high.

I think this is a wonderful place to live especially since I had my wife here before me. If that is not a good recommendation I don't know what else could be.

I spent 2 weeks convalescing at Westlake after a hip replacement operation. My first impression was of a warm and friendly place, with high standards of care. This proved to be correct in all respects and the care I received was first-rate.
There must be excellent information-sharing procedures since all the many kind and pleasant staff who helped me addressed me by name, knew my needs and were up to date on my progress.
Permanent resident's I spoke to confirmed how well they were treated too. All facilities and services are way above average, but is the people who work there, and the management structure that supports them, that makes Westlake really outstanding.

Very professional, kind staff. My mother's legs from being discharged from hospital have improved beyond belief. The food is wonderful and her appetite is vastly proved. My mother loves the local visiting doctor. My mother was very grateful to the care home for taking her in under difficult circumstances.

When our mum arrived at Westlake for respite care she was very unwell and confused, over the past few months with the help of the caring staff she is back to her normal self. Mum is now moving on to residential care. Thank you and your amazing staff, so going to miss afternoon chat tea and cake with the girls.

When my father was admitted last October, the family didn't expect him to see Christmas, his condition being so bad. Due to the care, especially that of his nurse Louisa, his condition has improved beyond belief, his ulcerated legs, very nearly healed. They cope with his outbursts and sharp tongue. Their attention to detail is exceptional. The atmosphere is one of caring.
