Known locally as the Old Rectory Nursing Home but now renamed as the Barham Care Centre, it has an unsurpassed reputation for its homely atmosphere and friendly staff.

The home is situated on the edge of Barham village with shops and local amenities a short distance away. Its rural location also allows residents the opportunity to enjoy outings around the village using a network of smooth footpaths, or to simply sit in the sunshine using one of the secluded gardens. As variety is the spice of life excursions are regularly organised to special events and places of interest.

Although smaller then the Baylham Care Centre with a capacity for 34 residents it offers the same levels of service, these include visits by: chiropodists, dentists, opticians, religious ministers, hairdressers and many more. If needed residents will be transported by adapted minibuses to the Baylham Care Centre for specialist treatments or therapies.

The Review Score of 9.420 for Barham Care Centre is based on 10 Reviews/Recommendations in the last 2 years.

  • The Review Score (maximum of 10) is made up of a Quality Score (maximum of 5) and Quantity Score (maximum of 5):

    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. • Any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this care provider to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

      • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 4.588 for Barham Care Centre is calculated as follows:

      1. 10 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 10 Positive Reviews = 1.000

      3. (10 Positive Reviews ÷ 34 Registered Beds) x 2 = 0.588

  • The Review Score is based on user Recommendations/Reviews submitted in the last 2 years. The maximum Review Score is 10. We visited a few homes but Barham was the one we walked into and immediately knew it was the 'home from home' we wanted for mum. There is a lovely friendly, calm atmosphere and we always felt mum was happy and comfortable there. The staff made us feel welcome and that nothing was too much trouble. We very much like that residents are able to wander about their home and there are no long corridors with a locked door at the end. The staff made an effort to learn about mum's life, interests and favourite food and drink all helping to make her time there happy and enjoyable. At the end of mum's life she was treated with exceptional kindness and compassion and everyone helped us through the difficult time. I am so happy that we found such a warm and welcoming 'home from home' for mum.

As soon as my sister and me walked in for the first time we knew our mum would be at home here. We were always made to feel welcome and everything was always out in the open. The residents can wander around as they like, no locked doors.
Our mum was well cared for and happy. There are activities each day if they want to join in. Our mum was treated as an individual and the staff made time to learn what she liked. We felt she was safe. At the end of our mum's life she and us were treated with compassion and staff showed they cared which helped to make a difficult time easier.

Always happy when I visit my mum at Barham, she is well looked after, always dressed nicely and settled, always lots of staff around to look after everything. The staff are so lovely and become my friends. Mum's bedroom is always clean and smells fresh and they have a lot of activities throughout the day. I wouldn't want my mum to be anywhere else.

We were so lucky that Barham Care Centre made a room available for Dad. Their care for him, and us, was exceptional. You could not find a better home. Every single member of staff went out of their way to provide the best care possible. Dad's medical needs were quite complex; the nurses met these needs better than the hospital, and in such a caring, friendly way, with a sense of humour and with a focus on maintaining Dad's dignity. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Dad was taken into Barham in a rush, over the Xmas period.
The staff went out of their way to ensure this happened, and we are so grateful they did.
Their care for Dad (and us) was exceptional.
Everyone, regardless of their role treated Dad with kindness,
consideration, dignity and love...as if he was a part of their own family.
There aren't enough descriptive words to express how great they all are!
Highly, highly, highly (to infinity) recommend.

I find Barham to be a very welcoming and friendly atmosphere. I would gladly recommend the service to friends and family who need a nursing home. One of my favorite things about the Centre is that there are regular outside entertainers that visit the home.

Although dad was only at Barham care Centre for 5 weeks, he had settled in really quickly and well having had a lengthy stay of 3 months in hospital prior to his move. The staff are very professional and caring and were able to manage dads complex needs well, nothing was ever too much trouble. Tina the manager was always available and kept good communication with us. If you are looking for a nice homely and caring environment, I recommend a visit.

I could not be more great full of the short time my grand mother was at barham. The staff are caring, understanding, accommodating, hard working, kind and really do listen to every need my grandmother and ourselves had. For myself and I know the rest of the family, it was a great comfort to know she was in a environment that felt like home. I would recommend Barham care home to any family that is looking for a warm, friendly, interactive and kind care home for a loved one. They really could not have done more for us and more importantly they could not have cared more for my beautiful grandmother.

The care staff cared for my dad like he was most important, not just another seat at the dining table. he was clean and smelt lovely, shaved properly and his time was occupied in lots of ways by their trained people. Days out, games, singing, service by a local church and pottering in their little garden. Everyone was chatty to dad and smiling which he loved.
