St George Care Centre

My Nan arrived here about 7 weeks ago. She is very very happy here and our family are very pleased and happy with all the team here. How they treat and talk to her in such a caring way. It's lovely to know she is being looked after in such a lovely way when we're not here. We were very apprehensive about the decision but both my Nan and my family are so pleased with how it's working out. Thank you to all the lovely staff!

I am concerned with the record keeping from the night staff to the day staff, prescription GP visits don't get recorded. Also I recently lost my mother and I had to ask for a syringe driver and mouth sponge wash as she wasn't eating or drinking, these things don't seem customary. The staff are lovely and helpful, we get on well. I can only think this is a lack of training. I wish the residents could have a trip out to a garden centre for coffee now and again as many care homes in our area do.

I live a long way from my mother when I phone either speak to Gill or Nicki and they are always very friendly and helpful. My mother has dementia and they are very sympathetic with her. She loves having her hair done and attending the church service. The care staff are very kind and understanding.

Nothing is too much trouble. Doesn't smell and is always clean and tidy. Always welcome you with a smile. I like the fact that the doors to rooms are always open so it shows they have nothing to hide. The interaction between staff and residents is excellent, they are polite and patient and make the residents feel good about themselves. The hairdresser is very good with the residents and good at their job. I like the fact that you can go in and have a meal with your relative and have a cup of tea. The cook is excellent. I can't find any fault with the staff or the home.

Ken Bishop

Job Title: Home Manager

Description:

As manager of St George, Ken leads his professional staff team in delivering the highest level of residential and nursing care for up to 68 residents.

Ken boasts a varied career, having come from a military background as a Royal Navy diver and medic, before leaving in 1995 to work for the NHS. He later qualified as a Registered General Nurse before moving into elderly care home management in Cornwall.

This diverse experience has equipped Ken well for his role at St George, where he works hard to ensure that those in her care lead happy and fulfilling lives, whilst maintaining choice over the care and support they receive.

‘I feel privileged to be able to make a difference to people’s lives every day.’

As well as spending time with residents and making sure they are comfortable, safe and happy, Ken sees it as an important part of his role to act as a mentor to his team. He firmly believes that a happy, fulfilled and motivated staff team will be in a better position to consistently deliver a high standard of care.

Having recently moved to Bristol to take up his role at St George, Ken is enjoying exploring the local area. In his spare time, he enjoys a range of watersports including surfing, sea swimming and diving.
