The Review Score of 8.824 for St George Care Centre is based on 11 Reviews/Recommendations in the last 2 years.

  • The Review Score (maximum of 10) is made up of a Quality Score (maximum of 5) and Quantity Score (maximum of 5):

    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. (Please note that the ratings of Very Poor and Poor have only been available since the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015.)

      The Quality Score (average rating) of 4.5 for St George Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (78 Excellents x 5) + (39 Goods x 4) + (13 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 130 Ratings = 4.5

    • Quantity Score: 5 Points are available for the number of 'Positive Reviews' for a care home / service. A Positive Review is defined as:

      • Any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this care provider to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

      • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 4.324 for St George Care Centre is calculated as follows:

      1. 11 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 11 Positive Reviews = 1.100 (maximum score = 1)

      3. (11 Positive Reviews ÷ 68 Registered Beds) x 2 = 0.324

  • The Review Score is based on user Recommendations/Reviews submitted in the last 2 years. The maximum Review Score is 10. There are 5 Points available for the average of all ratings on users Recommendations/Reviews (Excellent 5, Good 4, Satisfactory 3, Poor 2, Very Poor 1). We have found St George's to be very good indeed. The staff generally are very caring and kind. We had initial concerns over noise from other patients and nan saying no one bothered with her but they soon all settled down. The staff work extremely hard and always have a minute to talk to nan. She now responds to them much better. We have sometimes had concern that she doesn't have all her medication but that may be nan refusing.

Maggie Spooner, Home Manager at St George Care Centre responded to this review on 26 Aug 2015:

Thank you very much for your review, we really appreciate your feedback. The monitoring and dispensing of medication is taken extremely seriously at St George Care Home. We work in very close partnership with our residents GPs and ensure our residents health and wellbeing is of the utmost priority. We always welcome the opportunity to improve our working practices, and hope you will continue to share your thoughts with us in the home in future.

My Nan arrived here about 7 weeks ago. She is very very happy here and our family are very pleased and happy with all the team here. How they treat and talk to her in such a caring way. It's lovely to know she is being looked after in such a lovely way when we're not here. We were very apprehensive about the decision but both my Nan and my family are so pleased with how it's working out. Thank you to all the lovely staff!

I am concerned with the record keeping from the night staff to the day staff, prescription GP visits don't get recorded. Also I recently lost my mother and I had to ask for a syringe driver and mouth sponge wash as she wasn't eating or drinking, these things don't seem customary. The staff are lovely and helpful, we get on well. I can only think this is a lack of training. I wish the residents could have a trip out to a garden centre for coffee now and again as many care homes in our area do.

I live a long way from my mother when I phone either speak to Gill or Nicki and they are always very friendly and helpful. My mother has dementia and they are very sympathetic with her. She loves having her hair done and attending the church service. The care staff are very kind and understanding.
