Review of Sunrise of Southbourne on Wednesday 2 April 2014 by Rosy W (Visitor to ex-neighbours)

I cannot praise Sunrise of Southbourne highly enough. From the moment you walk through the door into what would, by anyone's standards, pass as a smart hotel and are greeted with a smile from the lady at Reception, there is a feeling of peace and calm. You find the residents 'doing their own thing', be it reading, chatting, taking part in activities, whilst sitting in the spacious surroundings on comfortable chairs and sofas. The caring staff, are always on hand but are unobtrusive, blending in so that there is no feeling that you are visiting a HOME, but an extension of the residents' home. Both the ladies I visit have moved seemlessly from Assisted Living to Reminiscence where the general calmness persists, except of course when the visiting dogs run amok!

My aunt has been at Sunrise of Southbourne for just over 2 years now. Her every need is catered for and she is well looked after. The team ensures she receives the correct care and diet and her personal hygiene is kept to a good level. Housekeeping is spotless and I am always contacted should there be a problem as we live some distance away. The staff are always polite and efficient. I would thoroughly recommend Sunrise of Southbourne.

Review of Sunrise of Southbourne on Sunday 16 February 2014 by Pat Sparrey (Daughter of resident)

Mum has been a resident of Assisted Living in Sunrise Southbourne for twenty months and we have been very happy with her care. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming when we visit and it is reassuring for us that she is being well cared for as we live some distance away. We are contacted by phone if she has any health problems and medical treatment is sought without delay. The home is beautifully furnished and the standard of cleanliness is excellent, as is the food. She enjoys sitting in the gardens in the summer months which she finds very restful. She also enjoys listening to the visiting pianists.

Review of Sunrise of Southbourne on Wednesday 5 February 2014 by Anne Felton (Daughter of resident)

Mum has been at Sunrise, Southbourne for 18 months. It is an extremely relaxed, friendly and welcoming 'home from home', yet run with unobtrusive efficiency and professionalism at all times. Mum is fortunate to still be able to go out independently but also enjoys the trips and activities organised. She never stops praising the staff for their endless patience and cheerful care and support. Her only complaint is the difficulty she has keeping her weight down with all the excellent food and refreshments served. And for my brother and I, Sunrise has given us complete peace of mind, knowing mum is safe, happy and well cared for at all times.

I am very happy to recommend Sunrise of Southbourne. My mother has been extremely well cared for since she moved into assisted living 4 years ago and subsequently Reminiscence last year. The staff are patient, kind and caring and keep me well informed of her condition.

Review of Sunrise of Southbourne on Tuesday 4 February 2014 by Hazel Matthews (Father is a resident)

I can thoroughly recommend Sunrise Senior Living as my father has been a resident there for nearly four years. During this time he has been well looked after and it is peace of mind that he is well fed, the meals are good and nutritional. The entertainment provided is very enjoyable with different artist from the outside community giving their time to put on these programmes. The trips in the mini bus also give the residents to visit different places throughout the whole year, this in turn prevent the residents from becoming institutionalized. The gardens are kept tidy and there is seating around for the residents to be able to enjoy the outside especially in the summer months. The communal areas are kept clean and tidy there never appears to be any dust or dirty cluttered floors. The provision of indoors activities is also very good with an activities room which includes cookery, knitting and also a gentleman's club. There are also 2 very big televisions one in the activities room and the other is down stairs in the main communal area all the seating is very comfortable and just the right height for those who have difficulty from rising out of chairs. There is also a Bistro area where guests and residents can help themselves to a hot or cold drink if they so wish. I also have to mention the Spa bath which my father has used on occasions with help,he has enjoyed this. Overall I cannot fault Sunrise on anything.

Review of Sunrise of Southbourne on Monday 30 December 2013 by Elizabeth Rowbotham (Cousin of Resident)

My cousin moved to Sunrise Assisted Living in 2008, she now resides in the Reminiscence Facility. In this period we have witnessed care and compassion of a very high order. That her well being, safety and medical condition are being permanently monitored by caring and professional staff is reassuring. We are informed of changes to her medical or personal circumstances. Our visits are usually unannounced yet we are always made welcome, constantly surprised at the number of activities and outside visits taking place and the enthusiasm of the staff. The knowledge and experience of the staff have not only been of benefit to my cousin but have also helped us to understand her dilemma. This was particularly important when she moved to the Reminiscence facility, a potential nightmare which happened almost unnoticed. We have experienced many meals at Sunrise and enjoyed all of them! Little has changed visually since we first entered Sunrise, except the addition of the 'Sweets and Treats' shop in the foyer, it remains immaculate, the decoration is as bright as ever and the staff are totally reliable.

I have always found the staff friendly and kind to all residents. Bedrooms are clean and tidy, as are all residents. Because I live away from Bournemouth, managers have been kind enough to keep me informed of all situations immediately There is always a positive and happy atmosphere which is mostly down to the staff who have endless patience. Although there are sad situations for many families, the staff give TLC to all

I have been visiting my relative at Sunrise for over a year and I have been very happy with the care she has received in this time. The home is welcoming and efforts are clearly made to provide a stimulating, lively environment alongside the necessary physical care. I hope that she will be able to spend her remaining years at Sunrise.

Review of Sunrise of Southbourne on Wednesday 18 December 2013 by Jane Cheele (Relative of resident)

My aunt suffers from Alzheimer's disease and has been resident in the Reminiscence suite since November 2012. Her condition makes her behaviour extremely challenging and it is not possible for her to be cared for at home. The staff at Sunrise of Southbourne treat her with respect, safeguarding her dignity and employing a variety of techniques to ensure that she remains healthy and well fed, often in the face of aggression and non-cooperation. I am kept informed on a regular basis of her condition and progress and I am confident that she is safe and very well cared for.

I would recommend Sunrise because it gives me peace of mind knowing that my husband, who has dementia, is cared for 14 hours a day. There is always someone available to help with any problem. The residents are reassured if they have any worries, and are treated with respect and courtesy. The carers are always cheerful and willing. Visitors are welcomed at any time with a cup of tea or coffee, no matter what time I visit the greeting is always welcoming. Residents are really cared for at Sunrise and their needs are adequately met.

Sunrise of Southbourne have provided our mother with a wonderful, caring home environment of the highest standards. As her dementia progresses the professional staff take time to explain our mother's changing care needs and to support us as a family coming to terms with her progressive illness. Our mother is always happy, cheerful and smiling whenever we visit. Thank you to all the staff at Sunrise Southbourne for giving our mother a 5 star quality of life.

My mother is in the 'Reminiscence' part of this community, initially in 'assisted living'. Had a seamless transfer upstairs, everything looks/is the same 5* standards, well trained staff, excellent communication. My lovely mother is so happy, enjoys all the activities, never bored, lonely, or in distress. Her Alzheimers is advancing but at each stage the much caring staff give full support to my mother and my family. I know she is safe 24 hours a day and I can enjoy her company when I visit and no longer feel like a 'carer' but back as her daughter. There is no other better home - all should be like this.
