The Review Score of 9.451 for The Aldbury is based on 18 Reviews/Recommendations in the last 2 years.

  • The Review Score (maximum of 10) is made up of a Quality Score (maximum of 5) and Quantity Score (maximum of 5):

    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. (Please note that the ratings of Very Poor and Poor have only been available since the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015.)

      The Quality Score (average rating) of 4.796 for The Aldbury is calculated as follows: ( (170 Excellents x 5) + (39 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 211 Ratings = 4.796

      • Any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this care provider to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

      • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 4.655 for The Aldbury is calculated as follows:

      1. 18 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 18 Positive Reviews = 1.800 (maximum score = 1)

      3. (18 Positive Reviews ÷ 55 Registered Beds) x 2 = 0.655

My father spent his final weeks of his life at The Aldbury, as a family it was a very significant step moving into residential care for both him and my mother, however it was made as easy as possible with the help and support from staff. My father had no verbal communication, however every effort was made to accommodate this including a staff member devising a simple communication tool. Initially there were a few little difficulties but these were resolved with discussion with the family to seek a way forward in a constructive and sympathetic way. My father spent his last birthday and Christmas at the home, we valued very much the opportunity to enjoy a private family birthday meal in the coffee shop a treasured memory for us all and his final day we cannot thank staff enough for their compassionate support and the peaceful environment provided for him to slip away.

Recommended by another place, accepted initially for respite care. The Aldbury improved my wife's condition. Husbands care not sustainable, hence my wife residing until further notice.

My dad was a resident at The Aldbury from November 2013 to October 2015 when he passed away. Dad was admitted initially as an urgent case to provide respite care for my mum, we hadn't had time to do any research, but it quickly became clear we had got the best home possible for dad. All the carers are completely dedicated and provide a personal service, bespoke to the individuals, caring and compassionate. This applies to everyone at the home, managers, nurses, cooks, cleaners and receptionists, nothing is too much trouble. Every resident is treated as an individual. Similar care was displayed to my mum when she visited. Dad was very content and happy and we are very grateful he spent his last months here.

My brother-in-law moved to The Aldbury in July after being in two other nursing homes. From the start the dedication of all the staff was clearly evident and he settled in very quickly. Nothing is too much trouble, each person is treated as an individual and their needs are met with respect ensuring their dignity at all times. My brother-in-law can be difficult at times but all the staff deal with this in a very professional way, diffusing the situation by showing him they care and making him feel special. At the other homes he stayed in his room for most of the time but since being at The Aldbury he asks to go in the lounge with the other residents and has been out on minibus trips. The activities each day are excellent and we are encouraged to join in when visiting.
Before when leaving him we used to worry about the care he was receiving but since moving him to The Aldbury we are quite happy to go home knowing that he is well cared for, clean and as happy as his illness will let him be. We have got to know some of the other residents and considering the nature of dementia there is always a happy atmosphere in the home what ever time of day we visit.
On a personal note I would like to thank the staff for the support given to me and my husband. We are always made to feel welcome from the time we sign in at the reception desk to the time we leave and we would recommend this home to anyone.

Having been through a very difficult and distressing time in previous care home, it was a huge relief to be given the reassurance and support offered by the manager and the whole team at The Aldbury, from housekeeping to care staff, everyone really cares about all the people they are supporting, including relatives. To know my mum is being treated with such care is PRICELESS. Thank you.

My father was a resident in The Aldbury for almost two years. He was very happy there and that was very reassuring. The moment you enter the home you are made to feel welcome. The staff are very friendly and always pleased to see you and the residents all appear happy and content. I had total confidence that my father was being treated with the utmost respect , care and dignity. It was a pleasure to visit him in his new home. Sadly he recently passed away there, the staff ensuring he was comfortable and free of pain. The care, compassion and love shown to him at that very difficult time was very special, and it was wonderful to see six of his close carers at his funeral.

I will continue to visit the home to see those special people who cared for my father with such sincerity.

We were so pleased to have found this care home. My mother had advanced dementia with hallucinations and delusions, and in addition was registered blind. The staff were all very caring and quickly recognised my mother’s needs and how to best to help and support her, whilst always treating her with respect and dignity. My mother was a very fastidious and independent lady, and whilst giving her the help she needed, the staff were always sensitive to her need for privacy. I always felt her care was personalised to her personality as well as her physical and medical needs.
The staff levels are good, being much higher than most nursing homes. This means residents needs can always be attended to promptly and efficiently. The care staff seemed well trained, as they always knew how to handle any situation, however difficult. There were always 2 nurses at the home 24 hours a day, and they all knew my mother’s medical needs well. What I especially liked were some of them were mental health nurses, so especially well trained for this area of work. The entertainment team were always busy, working with the residents individually or in groups. The entertainment schedule was good, with something every morning and afternoon, much of which was provided by outside entertainers and therapists. my mother especially liked the musical entertainments, where she would happily sing along. In addition the management and administration team were always friendly and helpful.
My mother loved to be outside, and the gardens are delightful and well maintained. Inside there are plenty of wide areas for residents to walk, and areas for sitting. I especially liked to take my mother into the coffee room (only accessible with visitors and staff, for safety reasons).
The staff were very friendly and helpful to myself and any visiting friends and family, making them welcome and providing whatever information/help/guidance was requested. When as a family we went on Boxing Day for dinner, the staff laid up a separate room for us, and served us a lovely meal in a lovely setting.
I would recommend this care home without reservation.

In August 2014, it was necessary to move my late mother to a specialist Dementia Care Home, and The Aldbury was mentioned to me. Right from the very first telephone call to the home to make an appointment to view, the subsequent meeting, and admission of my mother, I felt that she would receive the proper and professional care she rightly deserved. The moment you walk into reception, you are greeted with friendly smiles, and nothing is too much trouble. Every member of staff, from the youngest to the oldest, be they male or female, are there to make sure that both you and your loved one are treated with the utmost respect, care and dignity. Every resident is treated as an individual, and visiting there is a real pleasure. The facilities are second-to-none, it is exceptionally clean, and more akin to a 5-star hotel. Sadly, my mother, who celebrated her 100th birthday in November, passed away between Christmas and New Year, but I will continue to make visits to the home to see the special people who cared for my mother so wonderfully, and gave me, her sole relative, such complete peace of mind and support.

Thoroughly recommended. My husband has blossomed since being under the care of the Aldbury, and as I don't get to visit very often due to personal circumstances. I know he is truly well looked after and I have no fears in leaving him in their very capable hands.

I feel my mother is well cared for at The Aldbury. She seems content and the caring staff are extremely attentive and caring. The food at the home is varied and although all my mother's food is pureed for obvious reasons it appears to be nutritious. She has gained weight since her arrival.

From the very first visit to view the home we have had nothing but positive and outstanding help from all the staff from the Aldbury. The transfer of mum from the hospital in Dorchester to the home went very smoothly and mum has settled very well. A big thank you to staff who share photo's and new on mum to the family in Australia. Nothing is to much for anybody at the home. Thank you very much. Outstanding care home.

Since my husband has been a resident at The Aldbury, his health has improved and settled in so well. Owing to the wonderful management, the care and support of the carers and staff who also support me. There has been a considerable change in him, smiling and content living in a very warm homely atmosphere. His personal care is amazing, nothing is too much trouble. The nursing staff will always answer any questions and put your mind at rest. I regard myself very lucky as he has gone from home to a happy home again. I highly recommend The Aldbury.
