The Review Score of 9.786 for Oaktree Court is based on 32 Reviews/Recommendations in the last 2 years.

  • The Review Score (maximum of 10) is made up of a Quality Score (maximum of 5) and Quantity Score (maximum of 5):

    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. (Please note that the ratings of Very Poor and Poor have only been available since the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015.)

      The Quality Score (average rating) of 4.786 for Oaktree Court is calculated as follows: ( (293 Excellents x 5) + (75 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 370 Ratings = 4.786

    • Quantity Score: 5 Points are available for the number of 'Positive Reviews' for a care home / service. A Positive Review is defined as:

      • Any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this care provider to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

      • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 5 for Oaktree Court is calculated as follows:

      1. 32 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 32 Positive Reviews = 3.200 (maximum score = 1)

      3. (32 Positive Reviews ÷ 56 Registered Beds) x 2 = 1.143 (maximum score = 1)

  • The Review Score is based on user Recommendations/Reviews submitted in the last 2 years. The maximum Review Score is 10. There are 5 Points available for the average of all ratings on users Recommendations/Reviews (Excellent 5, Good 4, Satisfactory 3, Poor 2, Very Poor 1). Oaktree Court is a friendly, welcoming home set in beautiful surroundings. The Somerset Suite provides its residents with a home from home feel in bright, clean airy surroundings. Care is very much person-centred and staff appear to have a very good insight into residents needs. The food is freshly prepared and the chef makes glorious birthday cakes!! There is always something going on the activities team are fantastic too.

Thanks for the review Jacqueline, much appreciated.

My husband is very happy at the home and is being looked after by very caring staff. There is plenty of stimulation for the residents with daily activities. These include minibus drives out, games and quizzes. The food is excellent and varied. Residents can have their families and friends to come in for meals.
I feel that they support the family as well as the resident.

Andy Kirby, General manager at Oaktree Court responded to this review on 24 Nov 2016:

Thankyou Sally. Might I add my thanks for supporting us over the last couple of years. We couldn't provide the standard of care we do without it being a whole team effort, and family members are so important to ensure every aspect of residents lives are as good as they can be.

We have found, without exception, the carers, nurses and management team to be helpful and supportive. There have been occasions when something has gone wrong and it's been necessary to alert staff members to particular vulnerabilities or preferences of my mother-in-law because we know her well. Each person, when approached, has listened, taken note and done their best to address the issue and circulate the information when needed. My mother-in-law likes the carers and has adjusted well to her situation, thanks in no small part to the cheerful attention provided by all, from the activities team to the catering crew. The latter was particularly creative for the celebration of a recent significant birthday! She has formed new friendships with other residents and enjoys the rural views and seeing the wildlife in the well-tended garden. Regular maintenance and the cleaning programme keep the environment fresh and tidy for residents and visitors alike.

Thank you for your comprehensive review of our home. I am so pleased you feel your family have been so well supported by all the staff, and I'll be sure to pass your comments to everyone concerned.

My mother was looked after very well as she was deteriorating physically, the staff took great care of her needs. My mother died at the home and the end of life care plan was superb. Any problems were swiftly taken care of and I was kept informed promptly and fully.

Thank you, Steve, for your kind words, which I will pass on to the staff.

Oaktree Court cared for my twin uncles at end of life. They did so with kindness, warmth, compassion and humour. My uncles were consistently afforded dignity, respect and autonomy and made to feel very much part of the Oaktree Court family, as did I. Every single member of staff that I encountered was courteous and professional, always proving to be responsive at times of need. I am a senior nurse working in older people's care. Oaktree Court was everything I could have hoped for.

Thank you Julie for your kind words. I will share your comments with all the staff.

I've got a nice room with all my own things in it. The staff are pretty good, and my visitors can come whenever they want. I don't eat much but the food is nice. There are lots going on, so today I am going to hear the singer and then there is a children's Halloween party, for children to come and join in. It's very clean here and it smells nice too.

I think the home is absolutely lovely. My dietary requirements are complicated but I have seen the chef and they have done special meals for me which has been great. My room is beautiful - I can see all the birds in the trees from here. The staff always tell me what's going on and I decide what I want to join in with.

Their high level of professionalism and devotion they displayed during my mother-in-laws time at Oaktree Court came through in everything they did. We could not have asked for a more lovelier place for our mum's final days.

Thank you so much for your kind words. Looking after your mother-in-law was an absolute pleasure, she was a lovely lady.

The care that my father has received over the last 8 months has been excellent. The staff are cheerful and friendly, and nothing is too much trouble. The ambience is light and airy, and there are plenty of outings and organised entertainment for those who wish to join in.

Finding a suitable place for a loved one to move into was never going to be easy, but finding Oaktree alleviated any stresses and concerns that go alongside what is a challenging time.

The surrounding area is beautiful and the interior is decorated to a very high standard. The rooms include en-suites and we were encouraged to put up pictures on the walls to personalise Grandad's room. The communal lounge is bright and airy with an abundance of great tasting food being served up which my Grandad (and myself) thoroughly enjoyed!

Above all, I feel it is worth highlighting the staff. From the offset, everyone made such effort to learn about my Grandad; his past, his interests, and above all, his family. This meant he was extremely well-cared for with dignity, kindness and empathy meaning he thrived during his stay. During his final days, the staff also provided outstanding care to our family which they should be very proud of and something that we will always be grateful for.

I have found the carers to be very friendly and caring towards my mother. They are always ready to stop and help her with any problem e.g when the bulb in her bedside light failed they found her a replacement for the night. She is very nervous about leaving her room and they are doing their best to persuade her to go outside, she is completely wheelchair bound and incontinent. She did agree to go on a short trip recently to a garden centre but I don't think this will be repeated because of her painful back. I do admire their great patience and encouragement.

Steve Oakes, Director at Oaktree Court responded to this review on 30 Sep 2016:

Thank you for your review and kind words.

Mum had a 2 week respite at the home but after returning to her home decided to return permanently. She had enjoyed her stay and chose to go back. She has a lovely, clean, bright room with en suite shower room, which enables her to maintain some of her independence. She is able to call on staff if required and thinks they are all lovely. She has been weighed twice while here and gained weight both times its good to know that she is eating three meals a day (which she wasn't before) The staff invite her to all activities but by choice she's selective, she has been out on trips on the minibus which she really enjoyed, she feels safe and happy here. It was her 95th birthday on Thursday and was thrilled staff and the manager took time and trouble to come to her room and sing Happy Birthday and provide a lovely iced cake with candles.

My mother in law has really settled in to this care home and she is obviously very happy there. She enjoys the location pleasant surroundings etc and the care staff, nurses, and manager all work hard to meet her needs and ensure her experience is good in all respects. Her room is good and although lacing mobility she has settled in really well, much better than we ever expected. I would really recommend this care home.

I think it is absolutely excellent here, and I find all the carers and staff very understanding and kind, and we have long chats about all sorts of things. I feel I have landed on my feet here, and I think I will stay here long term. The food is extremely good, and I always get the amount and choice of food that I want. I have delightful a view of the lawns from my room.

My 98 year old mother went into Oaktree Court in August 2015 to a beautiful en-suite room with her own door onto a patio, good quality curtains and d├ęcor. She was originally a very distressed lady reluctant to be in a nursing home but with extreme kindness, care and lovely sense of humour, she came to accept it as her home. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and after a very nasty prolonged illness she died peacefully and with great dignity. Her chief carer voluntarily came in on her day off to make her look as nice as possible in death.

My mother entered the home on Wednesday of last week intending to assess (1) the concept of being in a home generally and (2) Oak Tree court in particular in a single week's respite care. Yesterday, Monday, she decided to stay permanently at Oak Tree Court, largely on the strength of the quality of the facilities and the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. My sisters and brothers are very pleased that Mum has made a good decision at the time that is right for her!

I had to come here because I was very ill. I find the staff helpful and most times I get what I ask for, even though I am impatient at times. The surroundings are very pleasant. I have the activities programme given to me every week and I decide which activities I want to get involved in. I enjoy the quizzes and I'm looking forward to bonfire and fireworks on Thursday. The cleaners come in every day and tidy and clean my room.

I moved here when the council run home in Tiverton closed. I really like it here. Whenever you want something you only need to ask and the staff get it for you. They are all nice and you can have a laugh with them. The food is very good. I enjoy the meals and I get to sit in the dining room for my meals and chat to the other residents, who are all really nice. I know I can get involved with the activities if I want to.

I have a lovely room at the front of the home overlooking the gardens. The flowers outside my room are lovely. The staff are lovely and if I need help they come straight away. Thank you Cecil, I'm glad you've settled in so well. It is a privilege to look after such a nice lady.

My father-in-law spent his final 5 months at Oaktree Court. First impressions of a bright, clean and happy place were only reinforced by the care my father-in-law received. Initially he was able to take advantage of the many and varied activities, and up to the end, these were brought to him in his room when he was unable to leave his bed.

I shared your review with all the staff involved in his care, such a lovely man. Thank you for sharing your comments with us.

We cannot emphasise enough how pleased we were with the fantastic care and kindness shown to us and my mum even though her stay was only short. Nothing was too much trouble and we thank every single member of staff for all their help and kindness. The catering staff were particularly kind to us during the last couple of days of mums visit.

Thank you, it was our pleasure.

My father Morris was a resident for the final 6 months of his life. He was dying of cancer and a frail 89 year old who progressively needed more personal and nursing care to keep him comfortable. The staff at Oak Tree Court were excellent at meeting his personal and nursing needs and I would highly recommend this home. The facilities were excellent and the residents dignity always respected.

Thank you Anita, glad to hear your dad is doing so well. He's a really nice man, and it's lovely having him in our home.

I am so pleased with the care mother receives at Oak Tree Court. The new manager has been an inspiration, he is hard working listens and is pro-active. He acts on his promises and is a very positive presence. The activities team are superb and we are so lucky to have them. not least, the nurses and carers are kind, respect the residents and all deserve medals. So much better all round now staffing levels have been improved.
