Review of Charnwood Oaks

The first sight of Charnwood Oaks is impressive, standing fore square to its surrounds, it is obvious from the onset that it was designed and constructed to fulfill its purpose. From then on new residents, and families, are welcomed into a warm and friendly atmosphere that dispels all concerns.

Review of Charnwood Oaks

My wife was admitted for care in May 2009 severely handicapped mentally and physically due to cerebral Parkinson's. She was well cared for and well nursed by the staff who enabled her to be taken off a drip within weeks. I still support the work at the home, their staff are dedicated to serve the folk with the condition of dementia which requires a lot of patience, love and dedication to manage. The activities are well thought out and the standard of food is excellent. Input from a local church very much meets the needs of residents with a faith commitment.

Review of Charnwood Oaks

I have always found my father clean and dressed in his own clothes. The staff try to engage with him and he is treated kindly. My wife and I have eaten at the home at lunch time, the food was excellent. On one occasion a number of family members were able to join my father for lunch in a separate dining area which was specially prepared for us. The party food, at the Christmas party and summer fetes was as good as any buffet in quality and quantity. Our "Flossie" the entertainer was very good too engaging with the other residents. The rooms, corridors, communal areas and even the outside garden are all well kept and highly presentable.

Review of Charnwood Oaks

Dad arrived here after three months in hospital, during which he had lost weight, lost his voice and lost the ability to stand up independently. He was very anxious, frail and extremely vulnerable. Staff quickly settled him in, establishing his favourite food, telling him and responding to little jokes and generally making him feel very much a part of a caring community. The carer team is outstanding, they know him very well and even staff who are off duty, call on him to talk to him and give him a hug. He loves the food, as there is a lot of choice. The food is well cooked and presented, which is a pretty good achievement by the catering team, who have many different diets to cater for. The home is kept clean. His room is nicely furnished, with some of his own furniture and has a pleasant double aspect, giving it a light airy feel. We have been able to put plant pots outside containing seasonal plants for colour. Staff care for dad tenderly, taking account of his frailty and dignity, but also have a good laugh at the same time. The front of house team provide a wonderful welcome and nothing seems to be too much trouble for them. There are several 'family' occasions throughout the year, including services for Easter, Remembrance, Christmas and these are marked with a lunch to which family members are invited. The tables are arranged delightfully, with specially designed and produced menu cards and table decorations. These occasions are very well attended and it gives family members an opportunity to meet other families. I like this. The 'in house' hairdresser provides an excellent service to all residents. Dad also enjoys trips out - he still talks about a visit to a local beauty spot back in the autumn, when they had a barbecue. I am well informed about Dad's health and needs. If ever I have a question, staff will find the most appropriate person to give me an answer before I leave. I visit my dad 2 - 3 times every week and I am very happy with what I see. Thank you Charnwood Oaks, you have given my dad enjoyment in life, which he had lost.

Review of Charnwood Oaks

Mum came here after good treatment at another residential home and then bad care by the NHS. Charnwood Oaks have taken mum under their wing, sorting out her needs and dealing effectively with them. We - her family - are happy that she is being looked after in the best possible way - been here 12 months. We are treated with respect, mum matters. Mum was born in 1916 so you can see our situation/concerns. Thank you.
