For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 3.267 for Appleby Court Nursing Home is calculated as follows:

      1. 2 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 2 Positive Reviews = 0.200

      3. (2 Positive Reviews ÷ 60 Registered Beds) x 2 = 0.067

My Aunt has been a resident in this home for nearly two years. The first year was a mixture of respite and full time residential. When she was on the residential she had never been in a home before and at first refused to go into the sitting room with the other residents. The staff encourage this and within a few weeks she was settled and enjoying life as a resident. This was down to the interaction of the staff with the residents. After a couple of spells in hospital and a stroke last year they took her back full time on the nursing side as she also had Parkinsons and Dementia. I cannot fault the care she has had since her stroke. She can have good days/bad days but the staff are excellent as they know all their residents individual needs. They are flexible on visiting and also allow pets to be taken in on visits. My family and I can categorically say that this home is up there with the best because of the care and dedication of the staff. We can go on holiday and not worry.

My mother was resident for convalesce through October 2014 and again December 2014 until March 2015, when she then returned home.
The care and attention she received was excellent. I cannot praise the staff enough for their friendliness and hospitality.
As a nurse manager myself I am familiar with expected nursing care and standards within such environments.
First impressions were that the home was somewhat shabby however the friendliness of the staff the cleanliness and care out weighed this impression and it was pleasing to see during my mothers stay that the owners were upgrading the premises, decorating rooms one by one.
Food was plentiful. The residents were encouraged to go on days out, and I witnessed regular entertainment for the residents.
The senior care workers were professional and a credit to themselves and the home, clearly well trained and they carried out their work professionally.
I would have no hesitation in returning my mother to this home in he unfortunate case she required it.
