  • The maximum Review Score for a care home / service is 10 and it is based on the published (including Restricted Publication) Reviews in the last 2 years. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

The Review Score of 9.267 for St Margaret's Care Home is based on 15 Reviews/Recommendations in the last 2 years.

  • The Review Score (maximum of 10) is made up of a Quality Score (maximum of 5) and Quantity Score (maximum of 5):

    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. (Please note that the ratings of Very Poor and Poor have only been available since the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015.)

      The Quality Score (average rating) of 4.767 for St Margaret's Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (140 Excellents x 5) + (38 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 180 Ratings = 4.767

    • Quantity Score: 5 Points are available for the number of 'Positive Reviews' for a care home / service. A Positive Review is defined as:

      • Any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this care provider to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

      • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 4.5 for St Margaret's Care Home is calculated as follows:

      1. 15 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 15 Positive Reviews = 1.500 (maximum score = 1)

      3. (15 Positive Reviews ÷ 60 Registered Beds) x 2 = 0.500

  • The Review Score is based on user Recommendations/Reviews submitted in the last 2 years. The maximum Review Score is 10. There are 5 Points available for the average of all ratings on users Recommendations/Reviews (Excellent 5, Good 4, Satisfactory 3, Poor 2, Very Poor 1). The care from every member of staff at St. Margarets care home in Durham was outstanding. First impressions of visiting St. Margarets when looking for the best possible home for my mother was very impressive. The home was very clean and modern. Staff had clean uniform, and very friendly. Nothing was too much trouble from the Manager and all staff. The food always smelt and looked lovely.
We obviously made the right choice with St. Margarets in Durham, and highly recommend this home to anyone looking for the best care possible for their loved ones.

From the first visit to the care home I have been impressed with everything about the home. All of the staff without exception are courteous and friendly. Everyone, residents and staff use christian names. The rooms are clean and tidy, residents are able to personalise their rooms with personal belongings. My wife has a wonderful relationship with the staff. The unit has everything residents require. A beautiful small dining room is a highlight. The meals are always of a high standard. I visit regularly at all times of the day and am greeted by a happy caring and knowledgeable staff. There is always lots going on, from arm chair exercises, craft work, entertainment and trips out. There is something for everyone. I am delighted with the care my wife receives and can recommend it unconditionally.

All staff treat mum with care and affection. Standards of cleanliness are excellent. Mum enjoys the food and has choice. She also enjoys the activities on offer and joins in whenever she can. The home has a lovely atmosphere and mum has been happy for the two and a half years she has been there.

My mother has been a resident for six months and I cant praise the staff highly enough. They are always smiling and you can see the rapport they have with the residents. They are very patient even with the residents who are confused. The manager is very approachable and reassuring and make families welcome. Food is excellent - so much so that my mother has put on weight. I would have no hesitation in recommending this home.

We cannot fault the quality of care, the environment and facilities offered to Mum for just over four months until she passed away earlier this month. Staff were caring and compassionate; Mum was treated as a special individual and we as a family felt included in all decisions about her care and treatment. Sadly she was too ill to enjoy much of the food on offer; the menus would not have been out of place in a 5 star hotel! Her room was spacious and comfortable and we thank everyone involved in looking after her.

I would like to reiterate the things mentioned a few moments ago here are a few examples of recent events. A few days ago I had the most delicious salad so beautifully presented it seemed to good to eat. We visited a garden centre to purchase plants and shrubs to make our home look more attractive using some of the garden prize money we won. There have been tow very useful shopping trips and another one in the offing. today we took advantage of the weather to have a trip to the seaside, ice cream cornets and refreshments included. I very recently had the most enjoyable visit to the theatre. Tomorrow two of us are going to sample the food at the pub down the road, come and join us!

My Wife (now passed away in December 2014) resided in St Margaret's from 2011 suffering with vascular dementia. During her stay here for 3 and a half years, she received the highest quality of care, her dignity upheld at all times by the manager and all staff who came into contact with her. There are regular in house staff training sessions in all aspects. The manager gives the opportunity of residents and relatives to attend monthly meetings in the home. She also holds a weekly open surgery for residents or relatives to voice their comments etc, about the home. A Care home worthy of support.
