My aunt spent the last three years of her life at Abbeydale House. She had been a headmistress, as she frequently pointed out, and was not the easiest person to work with, but the care and concern of the staff helped her to accept her failing health. She was a vegetarian for most of her 101 years and her preferences were always respected. During the time that she lived there many improvements were made to Abbeydale House, in the appearance of the building inside and out, in the general atmosphere of the home and in the quality of the staff, who managed her needs with warmth and understanding. The owner is 'hands on' rather than being a distant figure and in my view this makes an enormous difference to the atmosphere and standards.
