Pitcairn Lodge

You know when you know! From my first exploratory visit - for my father with advancing Dementia and Parkinson's - Pitcairn Lodge was perfect to become his forever home. Thankfully after a very short wait he moved in. From very early on he settled in well - with an easy and relaxed atmosphere around the home, experienced and friendly staff, a lovely room and excellent facilities. As a visitor I was always welcome, in fact resident and family interaction is positively encouraged. Nothing was too much trouble - if you had a question when visiting they were always answered - from the manager right down to the cleaner, often followed by a cup of tea and biscuit with your family member. Sadly just into the New Year my father was taken ill and passed away a few days later. At this point I can only say I entered a whole new world at Pitcairn Lodge. The care and attention each and every staff member gave my father when he was so ill was truly and genuinely fantastic. At the same time the care and attention they gave to me and all my family members was exactly the same. They made a very sad and distressing time a lot less difficult to cope with because of their genuine care. I cannot thank them enough for everything they did for my father during his time with them. I wish all the staff and their expertly cared for residents many happy times. There is always a friendly smiling face at Pitcairn Lodge.

Pitcairn Lodge

My mother had an emergency operation and sadly dementia set in after suffering a vascular event. After months in hospital recuperating from the operation I was advised that mum needed to be placed in an EMI unit for her own safety. Although she has only been in Pitcairn Lodge for a few weeks she appears to have settled in well. The staff are all very professional, caring and friendly and have taken the time to get to know the family as well as the residents and have made a very difficult and traumatic experience slightly easier. The residents are encouraged to sit together in one of the lounges but if quiet time is required then a quiet lounge is available. Although nothing beats your own home when circumstances makes living at home impossible the staff and surroundings at Pitcairn Lodge make it the next best thing.

Pitcairn Lodge

Early days yet but...my husband was finding life increasingly difficult because of poor memory problems having Alzheimer's, dementia, and hardening of the arteries. He was placed in a Nursing Home for respite and was thrown out after six days for displaying aggressive behaviour. The next six months were spent in a locked psychiatric ward having been given very little hope for the future. Within three days of being at Pitcairn he is happier than he has been at all in the past year. There is more stimulation all around. The fact that residents are encouraged to sit together whilst there is good quality music being played and reference books to pour over... The staff have all the qualities desirable for working in such an environment. With lots of humour in abundance....what a great environment for people in similar circumstances... I would thoroughly recommend Pitcairn...all needs cared for and all staff are there for the residents..
