The Review Score of 9.032 for Orchar Nursing Home is based on 8 Reviews/Recommendations in the last 2 years.

  • The Review Score (maximum of 10) is made up of a Quality Score (maximum of 5) and Quantity Score (maximum of 5):

    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. (Please note that the ratings of Very Poor and Poor have only been available since the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015.)

      The Quality Score (average rating) of 4.832 for Orchar Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (79 Excellents x 5) + (16 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 95 Ratings = 4.832

      • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 4.2 for Orchar Nursing Home is calculated as follows:

      1. 8 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 8 Positive Reviews = 0.800

      3. (8 Positive Reviews ÷ 40 Registered Beds) x 2 = 0.400

  • The Review Score is based on user Recommendations/Reviews submitted in the last 2 years. The maximum Review Score is 10. Mum has been in Orchar House for 2 years and is happy, well looked after, treated with respect. All her medical needs and personal care are given in a professional manner. As a relative I am kept informed of my mums care and find the staff very approachable.

We have peace of mind knowing our mum is being well looked after. The staff always have my mum looking presentable, the way she would herself if she was able. We consider ourselves to be lucky with Orchar House and the care given to our mum and that's down to the great staff. Thank you.

After a serious fall my mother was discharged from hospital to Orchar nursing home, as she required 24 hour care. Aged 92, she was very frail and in pain. Orchar provided her with a lovely airy room and food that she enjoyed. Personal care problems were handled with kindness and patience and she was always well dressed and clean when I visited. The staff were always friendly and approachable and my mother was happy to ask for any of them for help. The atmosphere in the home is busy and happy. There were always activities on the go, for those who are able and my mother loved the singing entertainment, the exercise class and church services.

My mother moved into Orchar House around a month ago. This care home is staffed by pleasant and caring individuals who go out of their way to ensure the best quality of life for their residents. My mother is extremely happy there and so are we, as her direct family. I could not recommend this care home enough. Staff are diligent, watchful and responsive. My mother is 90 years old and carries the burden of certain health complaints that can accompany the elderly. Staff at Orchar House have been quick to respond to medical concerns and have been instrumental in arranging external health checks by qualified medical personnel specialising in elderly care. The home itself is pretty, the TV room is always well populated, residents are chatty, bright, and so obviously benefiting from such an appropriate and high standard of care. Staff have been delightful to us as a family and we have only praise for the management of this excellent care home. Very highly recommended.

My father was resident at Orchar Nursing Home for the last 18 months of his life. He was made most welcome and settled in well. The staff were always friendly and helpful, and were permanent. The care dad received was excellent, particularly in the last few months of his life, when his condition and disabilities required extra care. He was able to pass away in his own bedroom at Orchar, peacefully, entirely down to the excellent and dignified care provided by Orchar Nursing home.
