The Review Score of 9.663 for Ancaster House is based on 15 Reviews/Recommendations in the last 2 years.

  • The Review Score (maximum of 10) is made up of a Quality Score (maximum of 5) and Quantity Score (maximum of 5):

    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. (Please note that the ratings of Very Poor and Poor have only been available since the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015.)

      The Quality Score (average rating) of 4.863 for Ancaster House is calculated as follows: ( (152 Excellents x 5) + (22 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 175 Ratings = 4.863

      • Any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this care provider to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

      • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 4.8 for Ancaster House is calculated as follows:

      1. 14 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 14 Positive Reviews = 1.400 (maximum score = 1)

      3. (14 Positive Reviews ÷ 35 Registered Beds) x 2 = 0.800

  • The Review Score is based on user Recommendations/Reviews submitted in the last 2 years. The maximum Review Score is 10. There are 5 Points available for the average of all ratings on users Recommendations/Reviews (Excellent 5, Good 4, Satisfactory 3, Poor 2, Very Poor 1). I have found Ancaster House to be a wonderful place for my mum to live. Staff are kind and considerate, showing compassion and caring to all residents. The "bank ground" staff (cleaners and household) need a pat on the back- the place shines and laundry is immaculate. Management are "on top" of what is needed and are open to residents and family suggestions- well done! Keep up the good work and thank you so much.

Good support and liaison with Social Services (Perth & Kinross) and with GP. 24 hour care necessity confirmed, resident gradually settled from confused state and agitation at admission to the home. Good staff care and relationships overcame the agitation and the confusion became intermittent. Relaxed visiting times aided the person settling in - appreciating the comforts, the care, and the food.

A long term friend went into care at Ancaster House August 2013 and I visit weekly since (unless untowardly hindered) my friends mobility is still as good, on a 'wheeled walker' and she looks well and still as strong physically (although forgetful and was two years ago) As I am interested in watching the carers and what goes on. I see all is done importantly as help is needed. I appreciate the friendliness and willing for hands on even of management staff when need arises. I had lunch with my friend only yesterday, a very good three course meal and I thoroughly enjoyed all. A choice of two for soup, main and desert.

My friend has only been in Ancaster House since 29/1/16, she was welcomed warmly and made to feel wanted. Her room is suitable but is upstairs. She has settled in well and is in now way distressed much to my joy. Her brother-in-law and I have been welcomed and supported in our decision to take her from her own home. We had a home visit from the manager which was very successful. I cannot recommend this home highly enough.

My mum's experience at Ancaster House was nothing short of exceptional. It was with heavy heart that she decided she could no longer manage alone at home, but from the moment she arrived at Ancaster her quality of life improved immeasurably. This is an extremely well managed care home, in which the experienced owners work themselves, to ensure the culture and standards of care are the best possible. My mum described it as a hotel that felt like home. Visits are encouraged any time of day or night and the ability to 'book in' for meals is a great benefit. The food was always of a high standard with plenty of choice and variety. The dining room is inviting and bright with views over the beautifully kept gardens, and this is also true of all the other public rooms. However, all of that is just a bonus, as the thing that makes Ancaster a truly a wonderful place to be, is the staff. They are without exception kind, patient and giving people. One of the things mum liked was that nobody made a fuss. She said that everything was done for you but it didn't feel like you were bothering people. She wished she had come to Ancaster a lot earlier than she did, but as she said 'You don't think like that at the time'. She loved the activities, visiting musicians, trips out to the choir at Comrie and weekly hairdo, but most of all she loved the company and the fact that she had something to get up for every day. Ancaster we can't thank you enough!

Well furnished, lovely garden with summer house, good food, bright friendly staff who always call the residents by their names. Clean and comfortable room with a TV and en-suite, entertainment most days, two sitting rooms, lift and car park. Visitors are made to feel welcome with a visitors room if required, always cups of tea or lunch offered.
This was an experience for me that I will not forget, I will return without worrying as I was well looked after by the hard working staff. The residents were so varied and there was always someone to speak to.

Respite resident

This home provides excellent care combined with only the necessary minimum of the interference, in my view as a retired general medical practitioner, the most difficult of all things is to provide in an open home. May I add, that is based on my other experience with homes, especially as I was a sole medical supervisor of a home of similar character for more than thirty years whilst in medical practice.

Unfortunately my father only spent a couple of weeks at Ancaster House after being admitted to hospital in his 90s and then being transferred to Ancaster. The care and love he received there was tremendous. The staff worked together and their was a very good atmosphere in the home with lots of interesting things going on, but also place for a quiet time with my father. They went to great lengths to make sure he was comfortable and well cared for and kept good communication with us and other care providers. This all happened during the Christmas holidays when it must have been more difficult than normal. We are very grateful to all the staff for the compassion shown to my father and ourselves.

My father had previously visited on a week's respite and had really enjoyed his time there and especially the food. He got on well with the staff and other residents and particularly liked the garden grounds.

My mum moved in recently, but has been in many homes for respite. Ancaster goes beyond any other nursing homes. It is like a 5 star hotel and more. All staff are amazing and truly care and also love their work. I wish more was said about excellent care homes, as normally you only hear the worst. Many many thanks to all.

This home is a former 'Blesma' home it is ideally located, within easy access to the lovely town of Cmeff. The view from the home is outstanding overlooking the countryside. The staff are extremely helpful and cannot do enough for the residents or indeed the visitors. There are frequent outings and if I was to finish my time in a care home I would choose this one, what more can I say.

The staff at Ancaster House are very caring and make it a fun place to be. Whilst being aware and supportive of the health issues of the residents they are also personable, friendly and interested. This makes the painful process of relinquishing 24 hour care of your loved one as acceptable as possible.
