The Review Score of 8.980 for Ashbourne Court Care Home is based on 15 Reviews/Recommendations in the last 2 years.

  • The Review Score (maximum of 10) is made up of a Quality Score (maximum of 5) and Quantity Score (maximum of 5):

    • Quality Score: 5 Points are available for the average rating. For each review the care home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The care home / service receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating. (Please note that the ratings of Very Poor and Poor have only been available since the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015.)

      The Quality Score (average rating) of 4.511 for Ashbourne Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (110 Excellents x 5) + (49 Goods x 4) + (19 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 178 Ratings = 4.511

      • Any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this care provider to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

      • Any Recommendation. Before the change from Recommendations to Reviews on 7th July 2015 all feedback was limited to Recommendations (ie positive comments only)

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

      1. 3 points for receiving the first Positive Review.

      2. 0.1 Point per Positive Review, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. (ie a care home / service requires 10 Positive Reviews to receive the maximum score of 1 point.)

      3. (Number of Positive Reviews ÷ number of registered beds) x 2, up to a maximum score of 1 Point. ie a care home / service has to receive a number of Positive Reviews equal to half of the number of registered beds to obtain the maximum score of 1 point. eg a care home / service with 40 registered beds has to receive 20 Positive Reviews to obtain the maximum score of 1 point.

(For Adult Day Care Centres and Extra Care Housing which do not have a registered number of beds, 1) and 2) are replaced by the formula of 0.2 points per Review, up to a maximum score of 2 points. ie a listing needs 10 Reviews to receive the maximum score of 2 points

The Quantity Score of 4.469 for Ashbourne Court Care Home is calculated as follows:

      1. 15 Positive Reviews = 3

      2. 0.1 x 15 Positive Reviews = 1.500 (maximum score = 1)

      3. (15 Positive Reviews ÷ 64 Registered Beds) x 2 = 0.469

Staff are very friendly and helpful. Dad was a bit nervous about going into a care home but he loves it now and the happiest he has been for years. His eating has improved and he isn't lonely anymore. Already has a few friends among the other clients.

My mother had been in Ashbourne Court Care Home for 5 and a half years (recently deceased). I have been very impressed with the care she received. Her behaviour had been very challenging at times but the dementia floor is very well staffed showing patience and care. I had been kept informed of any falls, doctors visits etc. and had always been able to talk to staff if there was a problem. Staff from laundry, admin, care workers, nurses, cleaners and management are all very welcoming. I can't think of any negatives, to be honest, although the food tended to be the same.

My father who is bedbound was not looking forward to going in for 3 weeks respite.
There has been a remarkable change in him, he is a lot happier, he's now eating properly,
cannot get over the change in him.
He had his review and is now staying in permanently.
The staff are friendly and caring and have helped lift his spirit.
I'm glad he is happier now with the care he should have had sooner.

The staff from the management down are so very caring, the residents are their primary concern and it really shows. They are always coming up with great ideas to entertain them, nothing is too much trouble. The meals are great and varied and they are certainly well fed, bowls of fruit to snack on, mid morning/afternoon teas/coffee. I can't speak highly enough of their commitment to care! Well done- keep up all your very hard loyal work.

My mother was a resident of the Watermills Nursing Unit at Ashbourne Court, for approximately six months until July 2016 when she sadly passed away. My sister and I had chosen Ashbourne Court for her as we felt it was well managed, had good facilities, and most importantly that our mother would receive excellent care there, we were never disappointed. The Watermills team were all truly wonderful and showed such professionalism, kindness, respect and compassion towards our mother at times. Her medical needs were quite complex and challenging but the staff at Ashbourne Court enabled our mother to end her life in a peaceful and dignified was and for that we are truly grateful. We have also appreciated the kindness shown to the family, and it has been a huge comfort to know that our mother was so well cared for throughout her time at Ashbourne Court.

My husband went into Ashbourne Court for 'end of life' care. The staff treated him with compassion and gave him all the care they could. They always made the family very welcome and dealt with any queries and advice we needed. They made his passing as comfortable as possible and gave us all the support they could.

Mother went to Ashbourne Court as she was no longer managing in her own home, she had bad sores on her lower legs. Once settled into her room, the staff at Ashbourne Court ensured she had medical attention, which over time cured the sores. She was encouraged to partake of social events in the common room, which she enjoyed over time, she formed a friendship with several members of staff. On our visits, we never found any course for concern at mum's care.

Pleasing ambience generally. Good choice of colouring and furnishing. Menus should reflect more closely the era of resident's traditional food lifestyle. Any mishaps by residents were promptly dealt with, keeping the area free of odours, maintaining an aura of tidiness and control. Turnover of staff is unsettling for residents, more stability would result in less management time spent on admin and training. Weekly fire alarm testing bad for resident's and visitor's nerves - Could testing be achieved on half-volume? Car parking will always be a problem, request a neighbourly resolution maybe? Quarterly 'residents and carers' were worthwhile and productive.

Bethany Gibbons, Marketing Assistant at Ashbourne Court Care Home responded to this review on 16 Aug 2016:

Thank you for your comments. We welcome all feedback that will help improve our care services.
We are sorry that in this instance we have not been able to achieve excellence in all areas of this review of Ashbourne Court.

We have recently made some changes to our catering service to enhance our resident dining experience and have introduced a new “Spring and Summer Menu” offering a choice of appetising and nutritionally balanced meals. The Ashbourne Court team seeks regular feedback from residents about the choice of meals served and this helps us to plan our menus, ensuring that all meals offered are appropriate for each resident. If there is anything specific your relative would like to be included perhaps this could be discussed the next time you visit our home.

In relation to the fire alarm testing, unfortunately, we are unable to lower the volume of this due to health & safety regulations. But the routine fire alarm tests are planned for and occur every Monday at 10.30am, which staff members and residents are fully aware of, enabling the staff to and support and assist the residents as per their needs.

According to the building structure and parking plan, there is, unfortunately, no more parking facilities available on the premises but we always do our best to accommodate visitors and families. If they haven’t got a parking space please speak to the Receptionist for an alternative arrangement, this is something that has been discussed in the Resident and Relative's meeting.

If there is anything you would like to discuss further, please do not hesitate to contact customercare@brighterkind.com or pop into the home to speak to me anytime. Many thanks, Rajesh Ayyappan, Home Manager.

My mother seems happy and much more stimulated now thanks to the efforts of the staff.

My mother has been a resident for 3 years now and in all that time I have found everybody from management down through all other staff members to be caring, approachable on all subjects, fully aware and considerate to personal needs of residents. Information is passed on quickly to the family so you always feel confident of good care. Ashbourne Court has always been very clean throughout, the catering and laundry services are of a high standard and in the 3 years I have regularly visited the home I have never seen or heard anything that would give me cause for concern.

My mother became a resident at Ashbourne Court, Andover in November 2015, having been looked after by myself and the help of a care agency who visited 3 times a day. She lived alone and it became quite obvious that she needed to have 24 hour care. We took mum to visit Ashbourne Court and she agreed to stay there after a 2 week respite with them. She has been there now for 7 months. Her condition has deteriorated which was expected in my opinion. The staff are very kind and helpful to her, helping her to get the most out of her day.

I have nothing but good things to say about Ashbourne Court - it is very welcoming. Managers and office staff are helpful and make themselves available. Carers treat residents with kindness and compassion. 'Housekeeping' is very thorough and carried out with a smile. The food always looks inviting and is enjoyed by my mum. The activity program is exceptional - there is a great deal of thought given to what the residents would enjoy and there is something on mornings and afternoons, Monday through Friday - this makes for a fun time for everyone.
